I was thinking of starting this thread yesterday when Cartoon Network replayed Return of the Joker. Was a worthy addition to the series. And the movie had probably the best Batman/Joker interplay in the DCAU.

Return of the Joker was great, but I never liked the idea of a teeny-bopper being Batman.

Still, I'd rather watch it than The Batman. But coming off TAS, :/

I enjoyed it enough no doubt about. I once heard someone describe it as a children-friendly take on THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, and if you look at it that way it's not half bad.

That said, there's more than a bit of wild fluctuation in quality from episode to episode and the JOKERZ - while appropriate from a thematic point of view - were a really lame bunch of baddies.

Also, Tim Drake should have totally stayed insane. None of that microchip bullshit.

That's what made it great IMO. McGuiness had issues Wayne never had to deal with - a functioning social life for one thing. :lol

The only thing that hindered the show was the new villains. Most were just not interesting. The shows best moments were involving the relationship between Bruce and Terry and how the older villains aged through Gotham's history. I recall the Mr. Freeze episodes being great.

How many of these cartoon series have there been? TAS -> Beyond -> The Batman ? Am I missing one?

Really good. It definately lives up to the pedigree of the Batman Animated series.

And as much as I disagree with the ending for Terry (JLU season 4) I have to say it was a damn good episode.

Also glad that the show has been recognized in the mainstream DC comics (52) and not treated as an Elseworlds title.

Now THE BATMAN i hated. What a fucking farce.

The movie "The Batman vs. Dracula" wasn't surprisingly THAT bad.

I actually enjoyed it - except for the stupidly retarded and out of place spanish style guitar music they use on a constant basis.

The Batman got better with time.

And also damn you. This was my next appreciation/ranking thread.

I guess the Justice League one will have to do.

The Joker: [Batman puts the Joker in an arm lock] What are you doing?
Terry McGinnis: Fighting dirty.
The Joker: The real Batman would never -
[as Batman tightens his arm lock]
The Joker: Ooh!
Terry McGinnis: Told you you didn't know me.
[releases him]
The Joker: Funny guy...
Terry McGinnis: Can't say the same for you.
The Joker: Impudent brat... who do you think you're talking to?
Terry McGinnis: Not a comedian, I'll tell you that.
The Joker: [draws a laser pistol] Shut your mouth!
[fires at Batman]
Terry McGinnis: [retreats into the rafters] The real Batman never talked to you much, did he? That's probably why you were so fixated on him.
[tossing a bat-arang, knocking the gun out of Joker's hand]
The Joker: Don't play psychoanalyst with me, boy!
Terry McGinnis: Oh, I don't need a degree to figure you out.
[hits the lights with a bat-arang, turning them off]
Terry McGinnis: The real reason you kept coming back was you never got a laugh out of the old man.
The Joker: I'm not hearing this...
Terry McGinnis: Get a clue, clowny! He's got no sense of humor! He wouldn't know a good joke if it bit him in the cape... not that you ever had a good joke.
The Joker: Shut up... shut up!
Terry McGinnis: I mean, joy-buzzers, squirting flowers, lame! Where's the "A" material? Make a face, drop your pants, something!
The Joker: Show yourself!
Terry McGinnis: You make me laugh. But only 'cause I think you're kinda pathetic.
[mimics the Joker laugh]
The Joker: Stop that!
Terry McGinnis: [still laughing] So you fell in a tank of acid, got your skin bleached and decided to become a supervillain. What? You couldn't get a job as a rodeo clown?
[continues laughing]
The Joker: [pulling out some grenades] Don't you dare laugh at me!...
Terry McGinnis: [laughs more] Why? I thought the Joker always wanted to make Batman laugh!
The Joker: YOU'RE NOT BATMAN!
[Throws the grenades, knocking Terry out of the rafters and onto the ground]

Great stuff.

Sorry about that. Obviously at the moment, the first post looks a bit empty but I'll be updating it later with some more information.

It's a great show, but I'm pissed beyond all belief that this show managed to get a soundtrack release instead of the superior Batman TAS score.

The score in Beyond is downright awful...and it's from the same person that did TAS!

http://www.filmtracks.com/titles/batman_beyond.html (clips are on the left)
I didn't mind the show's score. If you are disliking it because TAS hasn't gotten a release then I'm all for that. Shirley Walker's best work needs to be out there. RIP.

I thought the music was pretty good, it fit the at times chaotic nature of the show.

My big issues is that though it seemed Beyond had a more diverse quantity of baddies than any Batman incarnation it never had the quality of super criminals TAS had. No Ridder remake? No Clock King remake? And Ra's Al Ghul's return comes back
in Talia's body??? EWWWWWWWWW
. Not to mention the Jokerz (buncha street punks) and the Royal Flush Gang (common thieves) were very 'eh' to me.

Now the Splicers episode . . . AWESOME.

Enjoyed the series greatly.

Damn it, reality, stop tempting me to purchase the series from Amazon. : (

Would SD cartoon series hold up well on an HD TV?

I see nothing near TAS quality with what I viewed. I mean, granted, I did not get up to Season 4 but I cannot imagine the line it would have taken for them to improve their writers to that point. And that I'd have to suffer through the rest of the laughable show and horrible character designs and atrocious writing and characterization to get there.

But maybe I'll give Season 4 a shot.

Season 4 was still great due to a few standout episodes. The overall quality had been reduced visually but still several great stories to tell.

From here I have been on Wikipedia looking up more Batman: TAS stuff. I never knew this fact.

Mignola designed the Batman: The Animated Series version of Mr Freeze at Bruce Timm's request. He also produced several character and location designs used in Batman Beyond. In addition, Mignola also drew covers for several Batman storylines including A Death in the Family and Dark Knight Dark City

It's all good, I shall help you out or whatever if want.
If not will do my thing in this thread. I got all 3 seasons thanks to the Amazon sale. :D

Terry McGinnis: Don't play psychoanalyst with me, boy!
The Joker: Oh, I don't need a degree to figure you out.

I think this part is reversed. :lol

If you can, I'd suggest watching "A Matter of Family" or "Artifacts". Perhaps, if you like those, you can also check out "Seconds".

Holy crap, she died? I had no idea. :(

All aboard! The Love train!
This thread made me check for DVDs, and, in case anyone cares, all three seasons are on sale on Amazon for $12.99 each.

Okay for the people who are gonna pick up TAS and Beyond. I would HIGLY recommend going the full distance and picking up Justice League/Unlimited.

Sure its gonna cost a pretty penny, but in the long run. It's gonna be worth it.

It is probably the greatest pedigree in TV history. And yeah I am completely biase towards the shows and the universe.

I really like this one after the batman that aired on fox. I hated the WB one where batman did not have the yellow logo.

It's hard to argue with this. Surprisingly I actually don't own any of them. I've ordered BATMAN: TAS this week and will slowly collect everything. There will be other sales.

Rewatched this again sometime last year after buying the DVDs. All I'm missing is the Joker movie. Great stuff even now.

Hey, I was just watching this a couple of minutes ago...what a coincidence.

Yeah, great show. Even better than 'The Gotham Knights', I thought.
