Ok, fuck hakumen, and nu:lol
I suck so bad, last night I spent over an hour and a half just trying to beat hakumen just to get my ass beat by nu. I was greeted by an achievement not only for beating him but also for using 100 distortion drives... BANG BANG BANG BANG!!!! BURING BOOOOOOAAAANG!

You'd have to be blind to ignore SF4's impact on the scene. All those games would've come out, sure, but besides Tekken, nobody would really care at all. See: Guilty Gear. And even then, I doubt all these events american events would've been streamed or gotten the web hype that they have with SF4 being such a big deal. Japan doesn't really stream any events besides SBO, some arcades upload vids to nicovideo and some to youtube. That's about it.

omg... trying to undo muscle memory is a bitch... having to relearn everything, consciously remember which buttons to press, X_X...
so after about 20 minutes in training mode, I decide to give Arcade Mode a try... set that shyt on Hells difficulty.

Yeah forgot to say that, it was arcade mode... Bang's drive attack upon hit also acts as a block, but it's not exactly a speedy move. An overhead usually worked but it was crazy that hakumen would actually hit me the fram JUST before his drive block would kick in and then proceed to do some 2 hit drive combo that would suck like 35-50% of my health:lol

Man, I ruined this game last night. I had some people over and for the sake of everybody involved, we put it on easy mode where the specials are mapped to the R stick and we had a blast. It was probably the the most fun ive had with local multiplayer since I was a kid.
So I awake today. Break out the SF4 pad, map the buttons where I want them and goto training mode and get to learning some characters. Its rough after last night; the game was so accessible, so easy to get into that learning it seems like a chore. Im just whining right now and ill get over it, but anybody else out there, be warned. The more you use the easy mode, the harder it will be togo back.

I do thank SF4 for getting Markman his job and for putting out the TE sticks though (even though getting the sticks was a clusterfuck). In my eyes, that's the biggest contribution to the scene. So, for that, I thank it.

SC4 sold 2 million, but so what? As you said, it didn't cause streams of these big tournaments across America to pop up and it didn't cause a huge stick/part shortage either. It came and it went (really quickly, really). When you look at the rest of the fighting game release/related threads over the past few years on GAF, you'll notice they're dwarfed in comparison to fighting game threads over the past 7-8 months. Hell, the Evolution 2008 thread had like 15 posts total, the evolution 2009 hype thread already has *way* more than that.

I had checked on my pre orders today (one for each system). Well Canadians, it looks like it won't be showing up today ( and I was told MAYBE tomorrow?!). Thank god I have my import copy.

I guess YMMV really. SF4 came and went here in my area while SC4 and UFC has become big with two tournaments recently. No one gave a fuck about SF4. =(

My 360 friends list is 90% SF4 players, and now my whole list is like Garou, KOF, BlazBlue... actually I don't think a single person was playing SF4... everyone is checking out BlazBlue at the moment.

I wasn't going to buy this, but reading this thread over the past few days convinced me (plus, I have a Hori Real Arcade Pro EX which is begging for use). Just picked it up, excited to play.
Just leafing through the (gorgeous! full color!) manual, seems like most of the characters actually have legitimately interesting mechanics.

Holy crap the netcode in this is amazing! My internet is shit right now, and the intros are a bog to watch but as soon as the match starts it becomes invisible. Crazy.

IMHO... if it weren't for SF4... KOF 12 definitely would not be coming out this year... it would have been pushed back to make a more fleshed out title.
as far as blazblue... it would have still came but this thread wouldn't be as huge.
fact is... SF4 got people wanting to play fighting games again.
I've said it before... the absence of Street Fighter in the fighting scene is like the absence of Final Fantasy in RPG's... or Gran Turismo to Racers...
RPG sales have become stagnant because it's like the world is waiting on FF 13
Racing Sims are pushed by the wayside because of a lack of popular / dominant Racing sims out there... when GT comes back expect a surge in Racing Sims as well as a new interest.
Fighters are making a comeback now... with street fighter here and selling like hotcakes... you can expect other companies to put more marketing money and effort into creating fighters (or push their classic fighters on live / psn)

I'll admit that SFIV is the game that got me, at the very least, back into 2D (and 2.5D...) fighters. BB is such a well crafted game in many ways that it's hard for me to say whether or not it would've gone ignored if it weren't for SF's earlier release, but I'm glad Capcom's sales are at least showing the mainstream gaming world that the genre is still alive and kicking ass.
