Well content-wise fighting games are really light. Sure you can keep replaying the same thing over and over and get better. I really think based on that alone a $60 price tag is just out of line for most of them.

Oh on average sure, this game is actually a really good step forward though. Not even from a gameplay standpoint, just having a well fleshed out story mode, with all the little extras (TEACH ME, BOOBIE LADY!). And to have online good enough that lag is negligible, which is astounding since I think one of the rooms I played in someone was from florida (I live in washington [state])

I can't remember the last game I bought other than this where I felt the price was warranted (I'm cheap :p) I just remember browsing through some Gamefaq's/ign forum a while ago (why o god did I do that?) where some people basically just said "Oh a 2d fighter? Ugh nevermind, maybe 15 bucks in XBL arcade."

But I totally agree 60 bucks for most fighting games, especially as bare bones as street fighter was, is definitely too much. I'm almost offended at how fucking awful the animated cut scenes were, scratch that I am offended. I would have even preferred the use of stills like this game does over that. Ideally they should have just used the in game models

I think I'm starting to ramble :p

Haha, I had to switch down to beginner and even then lost two of the matches. I also saved his story for last, but I atleast 100%'d it now. I just don't like playing him at all either.

nothing like a 6 hour blazblue session with gaffers on a weekday :lol My eyes are burning. Good fights all (sonic, bistro, toku, zechs, pez, epal,)

i just started playing.

game is awesome! easy to pick up and play, but seems to have a fair amount of depth. i think i'm gonna main the girl in the white jumpsuit with the weird wingih sword things.

story mode is surprisingly entertaining.

GG's tonight guys. Jube, z3chs etc. Big "Fuck You" to all the Noel players out there. I took one home for the team tonight.

s29s7b.gif

more like BEASTromathics

sorry I couldn't be there guys. I probably won't be back on until Thursday night :(
I really want to level up my carl

Oh man..

I had fun with the game for the first time tonight. bistro completely makes the game hilarious and awesome. he is so negative about Carl and himself playing it and negative about the game compared to SF4 but then negative about SF4 not having lobbies.. It was hilarity.

Oh and Noel bitches! Noel! 2 hours of practice and I finally ended Jube3's fucking 12 game Hakumen run in the room!

:lol

I had never really seen Astrals in person just on video and when the music kicked in on the last round vs me and Sonicspear one time.. I had no fucking clue what was going on. :lol

Even my roommate was like "wtf is this shit?" haha.. Thankfully I didn't die that match!

Quote of the night:

"I bet the guy with swords won!"
"They both have swords....."
"Thats the joke.."
*odd silence for 5 secs then laughter*

:lol

Did a PSN NeoGAF session tonight; GGs to everybody who played! After FindMyFarms kept killing my Tager with Arakune, I hit up Dustloop and found a sound strategy that gave me the win in our last match of the evening! That felt good! :D

QisTopTier (doesn't post here but reads the forum IIRC) has AN AMAZING HOLY SHIT HOLY SHIT Bang!

Ferrio and Jekki play awesome Litchis! We were all cheering each other on when one of us would pick her to take on the menace of BANG at one point! :lol

It seems that on PSN, anyone can invite someone into a room, whereas on 360, only the host can do it. Still, I find the game more convenient to play on 360; the online is better IMO and I like having in-game (mic) chat.

Also...I think...I...am...missing...
Street Fighter IV
a bit now! Maybe the hiatus I've been taking from it, sans tourney matches, is coming to an end.

I can only do like an hour or 2 of blazblue before I crave SF4..

BB is good in its own ways but man SF4 is ace.

No arcade stick here, tried playing SF4 w/ a pad today, and my brain just couldn't figure out was happening lol.

GG's to everyone on psn tonight. QisTopTier finally gets his revenge for the pain train we gave his Seth in SF4 :lol Get a GAF account scrub!! Once I figure out how to not suck at this game you're all going down <.<

I'm not missing the Ultras, turtles, lack of rooms, and awful match-making!

Lack of rooms is ps3 only ;p

Ultras never bothered me.. Awful Match Making never bothered me since I get games pretty easily.

Lack of Lobbys does though.

I would say theres a larger barrier to entry with this game than SFIV.
I really don't think so. The game uses fewer buttons, relies less on joystick gymnastics, and you can do lots of flashy shit with very little effort. Now you might not win with it, but you can do it.

If you're coming from other fighting games there's a lot of adjustment, but I think BB is a more accessible (and overall better designed) game than SF4.

I can't wrap my head around SF at all, and also have never played a Guilty Gear game in my life, but I am loving BB. It's actually a lot easier to get into than I expected at first.

I've played Street Fighter games my whole life and after owning SF4 for a week, I am still have trouble getting used to the FADC-ing. This game, however, took me just one match of "training". Finally, we have a game where the FUCKING BOSS ISN'T NERFED LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER!

Question by the way, I've so far been playing as Ragna since he looked like the "Ryu" of this game to me i.e. easy to access. I've finished story mode and arcade mode with him, yet Story mode says 43%. I heard rambling about "true/real" ending here. How can I get to it?

seriously, you really have to work hard in this game to get some satisfaction, which isn't necessarily bad. I find the controls unforgiving also, pulling off dp motions feels way different than SFIV, its really fucking my shit up. Didn't the game creator say he wanted to make this game easier to play, and then he throws characters like Rachel and Carl into the mix, what the fuck. And then you have Arakune, "oh hey look at that little bee flying at me, oh shit fuckin 8 hit combo there goes a quarter of my life". I feel like GG was waaaay easier to get into than this game. Don't get me wrong, I like the game, but if you put this shit in Joe Sagats hands hes gonna flip his fuckin lid.

The difference is no matter how good you are Carl is still garbage! OHHHH!

And then he throws in Noel, Ragna, and Jin. The most popular characters are easier to play. The weirdo ones are harder. Makes sense to me!

Dude I played a guy who could do the clap trap earlier. It hurt so bad. :( :( :(

The best thing to do is typically lose every fight. Certain fights being lost end up making the story go on a different path, and the ones that just lead to a game over still count for 100%. Also selecting the other option in dialogue boxes when they appear will go in different paths, and you should be fine from there. However, Ragna is one of the more complicated ones. :p

For him you need to distortion finish everyone for his true ending(iirc), "mixed" finish everyone-which means normal/distortion finishes, you can just distortion finish one fight and do the rest normally, and another is obtained by only normal finishes. This is for the path that you get for selecting the first option after Arakune.

If you choose the second option after Arakune, just win/lose the fights in that branch, you only need to do certain finishers on the other path.

So, after not having touched this game since Friday night and jumping into ranked matches was a bad idea. I'll have to jump in some of Jube's player matches. I'd much rather lose against you guys than punks online, and who knows, I might learn something. I also enjoy downloading some of the replays. One guys Bang brought a tear to my eye.

I've had yet to play with Noel, and I only did a little training with Jin, but this game still is not very straight-forward. About the only thing that SF4 did right besides the game mechanics themselves was including the Trial mode, I wish they would have included something like that in this game. And I got my ass handed to me by a Carl the few online matches I played, well it was pretty close. He didn't pull off the hand clap, but was still juggling me around with that goddamned nirvana.

US version has the tutorial DVD! And I'd say it does a better job of explaining the game and its concepts than Trial mode did. Trial mode was a fantastic concept but the execution was pretty busted in my opinion. Unless you were a super player Youtube was pretty much required if you wanted to progress past the first few trials. Hell, how many people never made it past Sagat's stupid fake kick? (Does anyone even use that move? I've never seen it in a match.) DVD has its issues though. Really wish they'd put some simpler combos in there. The long ones are intimidating, even if they aren't that difficult.

Anyway, I think BB is likely more enjoyable at a very, very basic level than SF4 is. Hit D as Taokaka and you fly across the damn screen. It is fun. There's nothing so simple and flashy in SF4. It's easy to say SF4 is more accessible if you've spent a good chunk of your life playing Street Fighter games. You already know the language. But I've tried to explain it to people who aren't familiar with the genre and they just can't grasp it. They just end up doing crouching roundhouse non-stop. I think the emphasis on drive attacks over joystick motion specials, fewer buttons, and ease of comboing make BB somewhat easier to learn. But it's still not really easy, I guess. It's kinda like...both BB and SF4 are midgets. BB's just a slightly taller midget.

Sorry for getting kinda OT. I'm not trying to do a SF4 vs BB thing, since I love both games (and when SF4's fun I think it's the most fun). I just think ASW's criticisms of SF4 were valid.

If anyone in Canada (Ontario, preferably) needs a copy of BB LE, I've got a spare copy for 360. PM me!

My EB preorder finally came in. I guess that's good news for everyone who had it preordered but didn't get it last week!

I'd love to play with PS3 Gaffers some night, but I'm afriad you guys will just BEAST on my scrubby Jin.

Also, I feel dirty in the same way all Ken players must feel when I beat on dudes with Jin. I beat people 3x my level last night!

there was one fucked up thing about the Quick Match. i changed the setting to Similar Skill on the PS3 version last night and i was lvl 2. it matched me up with a lvl 26 dude! i got my ass kicked pretty hard.

Yeah, matchmaking is slightly borked based on what opponents are actually free.

*Custom match
*Players higher than me

*matchmaking*.....

"Level 2 player!" (I'm close to 20)

"wut"

I've met zero rage quitters, but have played a couple red flagged people that have zero lag when I played them, so maybe I just beat them too fast for them to go to the menu :p

Oh, and sorry everyone who sent me messages yesterday to get into the chat room or something like that, I'm gone most of the day every day this week due to work.

Hopefully I'll be awake enough to play some with you guys tonight, if not, I'll just work on some more combos with Noel in training.
