The First Berserker: Khazan - Reviews Thread

That’s a good feeling. Congrats!

It’s cool to fight these bosses with unique attack patterns. It’s just not going to be a game I will always remember for some sorta stellar level design. It sure is cool when you don’t have a big From Software game to play or should I say play for the first time. I would say it was worth the money. So are most of the soul clones. You get your time and money out of it. I dropped The Surge because I wasn’t feeling it. I finished Code Vein and this gives me similar vibes, but with better gameplay. Khazan doesn’t feel like GOTY material, but it certainly isn’t the worst game I’ve played.
Thanks. It was a really fun fight. My daughter was cheering me on lol.

I’d rank this above Lords of the Fallen.

Code Vein can go straight into the trash as far as I’m concerned. I said it in another thread, Khazan is what I wanted Code Vein to be. This is the good type of Souls like. Nothing fancy but it gets the job done. I’m a parry machine in this.

I love when games implement God of War style finishers, just makes everything feel more impactful and adds cool visual flair. Final Fantasy Origins did the same thing to great effect, fantastic Metroidvanias Blasphemous 1/2 and The Last Faith had it too, good stuff 👌

I'm nearing the end of 3rd area it's the most bizarre case in years, experiencing such 180 on a game - twice! Have things to say but I want to roll the credits first.

Finished the first area and boss (playing demo on PC). Didnt expect much and was pleasantly surprised and ended up playing couple of hours straight. The combat is fluid and fun, parries are easy to master. Most enemy attacks are very well choreographed. The art and atmosphere is on point. I dont like cel shaded games but that is minimal here. Its not a looker in pure technical terms but the art carries it.
Looking forward to play more.

Beat a big boy boss in the final region and wasted all my supplementary healing items during my many attempts in the process, glad it's over with though!

A secret sidequest opened up after this involving 3 "keys" I'd collected throughout my journey, was wondering when it would "do something". As always, first playthrough is guide-free and left to my own devices.

I'm literally on the last mission (I think) and just discovered you can upgrade various stats in the Khazan Memories menu, I've been playing on Hard Mode this whole time! Let's see who keeps it real and admits they missed this too lol. For anyone still early in, hope this helps!

wtf!? I never went to it thinking it’s just to replay cut scenes or some shit.

Lmfao.

So did you discover it yourself or not lol. I never use guides first playthrough and although I'm always very thorough (I read every lore entry, fully explore etc) I only checked the Memories at the very beginning of the game and don't think the upgrade option even appeared then. Fast forward 70 hours and me thinking "hey let's see if I unlocked any cool narrative entries here", imagine my surprise 😆

Yes, I stumbled across it after I beat Viper.

There’s a ton of upgrade paths in the game. Hard to keep track of everything.

It's on my list trying to get though backlog, can't wait to play it.
Reviews are great and from what all you guys are saying, as a souls and nioh fan it's going to be a joy to play.

Finished the demo. Absolutely loved it and will buy for sure in a couple of days. They really gave a super meaty demo, like 3-4 hours of gameplay.
Also runs super well on my 5080 aorus master. 120hz locked with DLSS quality in 4K, with room to spare (GPU usage hovering substantially lower than 100%). Good optimization.
Can't wait for more!

First half was good but the last half was a serious drag and later half bosses are in essence spamming ranged AoE while you chain dodge/parry for 10 seconds with a 3 second window to retaliate it's a slog at that point.

My learned strat is to press bosses and just hit them with charged heavy attack when they wind up for an AOE. I just don't give them any space.

Alright I need help with boss #5. The health bar is crazy. Can maybe get to the final third before my heals run out. Using spear …?
If you're fighting Arata, I had success staying mid to far range to bait its jumping pounce attacks, land parries, and punish. IIRC it does that attack or variations of that jump attack throughout the entire fight. Easier to prepare for than its close range swipes.

Khazan>Nioh>Bloodborne>Sekiro>Dark Souls>Lies of P

I love proper skill trees and multi-button combat systems. Fromsoft combat is too simplified compared to Nioh and Khazan
Buyers regret with Lies of P here. I love the FromSoft games.

The Khazan demo... I didn't finish the mission but was impressed with the graphics and combat. Enemy designs were kind of dull to me.

I'm tempted to get the game but I don't know how it evolved visually. Does it get harder too?

Mb I should finish the demo mission before pulling the trigger. I'm nearing HR200 in MH Wilds and it is kinda boring atm, cleared Arena with a good friend yesterday and the two new monsters...

Sidenote: I love Nioh combat but dislike the poor level design and ridiculous amounts of loot in it.

The spider? Hit her ass she's weak there and if you do enough damage it will take off a huge chunk of health at once. You can destroy her main legs as well which restricts her attacks. Make sure to equip posion resistance armour as well like the slayer set [SPOILER/]

Got all the soul stones, jars and artifacts in every stage, had to look up a couple of the soul stones since I'm at the very end anyway and one in particular would have been a bitch to hunt down since it's camouflaged into the environment lol. Found all the jars and items on my own though, I'd say about 95% of the stones.

The last boss is... interesting and I think I made it harder by choosing a certain dialogue option at some point. I can consistently get to phase 2 with most of my healing potions available but after that it gets real 😆

If you think lies of p or nioh have better combat than Bloodborne or Sekiro I feel for you.
You feel about another person's subjective tastes in videogames.....lol.

I think Lies of P is better because it literally combines bloodborne and seikros strengths to be better than both.

It has bloodbornes weapon variety and rally mechanic. The rally mechanic requires more skill as you need to block and not stand and trade like lemons in bloodborne. The weapon variety is better in Lies of P due to the handle swapping mechanic.

Sekiro has better parry mechanics than Lies of P but it frigging sucks having one weapon and one combo string lol. It feels so limited after one playthrough. Lies of P allows a lot more agency in dodging in fights not to mention having all that weapon variety.

Khazan is certainly one of the hardest soulslike games. Most gamers will be stuck on some bosses for hours, if they play on normal with zero summons. Possibly the hardest soulslike, only behind Sekiro, at least for me

The level design vastly improves compared to the demo, but it is on par or slightly better than Nioh 2. A lot of people have complained about visually grey and brown colors. It hasn't bothered me, but should be noted. Enemy designs are very good with a lot of variety, imo

Loot is like Nioh but way more streamlined. It's not overly convoluted

Cutting off the legs seems like it would be worth it but I’ve gotten 4 legs off in a single attempt and she doesn’t die. Something about the timing of the deflects compared to viper. I’m sure 20 more attempts will get me there 😂

You can repeatedly knock her down with the Javelin when she climbs the wall. You do a lot of damage. Add skill points to Javelin to make stronger

Spider boss was actually pretty easy. You can cut off her arms, knock her down when she retreats. Got her down to 45% health before she regenerated lol

How comfortable are you with the first phase? If you can do that with ease the second phase is nothing. Similar moveset with some variation.

Gonna try and beat the fuckah today.

As for your question, it depends, some times I reach his 2nd phase with 2-3 refills left, other times he fooks me up in the 1st 😁

Don't you hate when you're stuck on a boss for days and look up the boss on YouTube and videos are like. 'beating said boss with no damage'.. blindfolded while getting taxed.

Yes although some of these No damage videos are after hundreds sometimes thousands of attempts.

Even Let me solo her took about 280 attempts to beat Malenia the first time.

Although there are obviously exceptional players that don't need to do that.
