M mortal , if you're still planning on releasing yours we can switch over. In the mean time there needed to be a place to discuss the game, since it's out.

Only was able to escape work for 30 minutes to play so far, but my thoughts:
- Major Princess Mononoke Vibes
- One of the very first areas has a lot of tree shadow cover and FSR in docked mode makes it look like shit. Warbling shadows all over the place. The rest of the game looks great so far, not sure why that spot is so different.
- The Title Reveal is master class.

I genuinely have no idea what critical path the devs intended or even expected players to follow in this game, lol. ESPECIALLY regarding when and how you're meant to get the Master Sword, of which I'll say no more.

Would you say there is a preferred critical path to play or should players just do random crap however they feel like it while exploring?

Was going to wait until my summer vacation before I started this game, but now I'm starting to feel a real itch to buy it. It's also going to be really hard to not be spoiled through osmosis.

Many “Whelps”! Handle It!
I am immersed and interested in this game the same way I was a few hours into Elden Ring. Fucking Nintendo man, they did it again.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Me, two years ago: Pre-orders this game from Amazon for $60
Amazon, last night: Sorry, your order is delayed
Amazon, just now: Your order has been delivered

It's been a wild ride just getting here

There's an area with a waterfall, behind the waterfall theres a patch of rock thats not covered in ice that you can climb and make your way to the shrine.

With that said, I'm stuck trying to get back to the temple after the third shrine (not the ice one, the other one)

I actually stuck two trees together that were laying around the last tier before the 3rd shrine, laid them up against a crevice in the icy wall next to the three or four trees.. and just climbed up 😄

This. This. This.

I don't see how anyone goes back to BoTW. They might as well drop the price of that game to $19.99 and ship it with a free coupon for two large pizzas and a side of wings at Dominos.
Yeah this is pretty nuts. Kind of retroactively makes BotW obsolete.

I’ve caved in and started the download - I was going to wait until Sunday because I’m at a wedding tomorrow and really need an early night. Yeah right. 😂

This is a fascinating question.

I'd absolutely say that people should play whatever way they want and let the cards fall where they may. There is nothing more satisfying than being out in the map exploring, and stumbling onto some weird event or area, and suddenly a quest pops up, and then you notice it - "MAIN Quest", and you're like.... what?!?

But on the other hand, everyone should do the first few quests at the first settlement to unlock the Camera. I didn't know that, and played half the game without it. It should be better signposted, as the camera and compendium are key features. Secondly, after about 10 hours I'd almost suggest looking up how to get the Autobuild feature as it's absolutely integral to saving time once building items loses its novelty. However it does kind of bring you to a place that would be better off found on your own. But playing 40+ hours without Autobuild was rough. Once you get it you use it constantly.

Well the 3rd Shrine in the cold was kinda fun to get to, I ended up making a kinda log ladder to scale the icy wall so I could climb up the snowy bit, I love this

Though now I keep dying when jumping into the water from this height, I thought the water stopped fall damage?

Cold water kills you outright it seems.

I think I went to the cold area on the starting island a bit too early... the larger robots one-shot me, and my trusty sticks don't do much damage at all. Coming back down was a pain as well, I couldn't remember the path I took before getting to some cave with a like-like on the ceiling, couldn't dive down to the water, and my cold resistance meals were running dangerously low; not to mention, it feels like I can't do anything there without the various powers anyway. And right when I finally came back to the start, I realized I didn't use the gacha machine up there, ugh... I think I'll only go back there once I have some warmer clothes.

It gets waaay better past the tutorial area in the sky. I love how I'm naturally guided towards main and side quests and I really like the character interaction and moment to moment gameplay.

Animations are top notch (just looking at horse riding is a joy) and the music at the end of shrines is so brilliantly mysterious I can't even describe it.

Also, since I'm now adjusted to the weapon breaking system the game feels more rewarding when exploring.

Maybe I should give BotW another chance after this one. But I'm not sure if the story, cutscenes and character interaction is on the same level as in TotK.

there is a lot more story in this game for sure.. idk how I feel about that. I don’t like cutscenes ever 5 mins. Hopefully it will taper off as the game progresses.

I changed jump in settings to B, and then on the switch controller mapping made it so R changes with B. Now run is with R, jump with B, feels way more natural

Only just after second shrine and I’m already starting to get over the weapons breaking.
What a terrible system to keep.

Everything else has been good so far.
