YYZ said:I bought two Dragonforce albums recently and I kinda regret it because every song sounds the same and it gives me a headache to listen to a whole album. Seems good for working out though, at least jogging/running becuase it's never slow.

I like Concerto Moon more, but Sigh is definitely one of the most unique sounding bands.SnakeXs said:Agreed. Sigh in general is pretty awesome, but Hangman's Hymn really did it for me.
YYZ said:wow, Dragonland is cool, thanks for the recommendation. Symphonic power metal is quickly becoming my favourite genre.

Described as "war" metal, this World War II concept album is one of my newly discovered favorites. Everything from the vocals to the soaring solos, to the awesome keyboard work, reeks of quality metal on this album.
Highly recommended.
Phobophile said:Annihilations of the Wicked was a really solid album! I was surprised when I heard it last year. The rest of their discography can go fuck off.
I just don't like how Behemoth went from being the best blackened death metal out there... to a fucking Nile clone.
FFChris said:Wow, a lot of brilliant bands popping up here. I'll listen to anything, but I usually graduate to the heavier stuff.
A couple of people have posted Amon Amarth stuff, I've got their discography and I consider this on by far and away their best album..

Once you hear the main riff in the first track, Death in Fire, you'll be sucked in. Fantastic album all the way through.
Also, a lot of Nevermore has been posted. Which is great, their stuff is excellent.

That's my favorite Nevermore album. Dead Heart in a Dead World. Nothing beats Narcosynthesis and Engines of Hate.
Shit, how could I forget this one...they haven't got a mention in this thread I think...

Akercocke - Words that go unspoken, Deeds that go undone.
It's a blend of the extremely heavy and clean vocals. Hard to describle. But one of the best new bands I've got into recently. For the crowd that likes the heavier shit.
Propagandhim said:The music is great. Intense - totally kicking my ass - but I'm not a fan of incomprehensible vocals like this. Is there anything on your list that has more..."orthodox" vocals?
Eternal Hypnosis is a pretty sweet tune.
Propagandhim said:Not necessarily "clean".. I'm not really sure. I'm a fan of Tragedy and Exodus, and I wouldn't say they use a "clean vocal" style, but maybe they do? All I know is that the sounds coming out of their mouths are words, and I like it like that. Yeah, i don't really like the gurgling.
YYZ said:any opinions on the 3 Inches of Blood? I'm very borderline on them because it's approaching the type of music that I don't like. I love Cam Pipes' vocals (clean screaming vocals), but Hooper's vocals, while they add a cool contrast to the vocals, I could do without 'em. Obviously the band would not be the same, but I would love them for it. That and if the guitar was a little slower and more epic, and less craziness on the drums.
Phobophile said:Anaal Nathrakh - Hell Is Empty, and All the Devils Are Here (black metal/grindcore)
Ravager61 said:As someone who LOVES death metal, I honestly cant understand the appeal of this band. All their songs are just one constant blast beat.
OmegaDragon said:How is it, except it being on of your favourites of this year? Do they continue the trend leading to Eschaton or do they go back to the sickening ferocity of their early work?
Phobophile said:Am I alone when I thought Arsis' follow up, United in Regret was a huge fucking let down? It's probably one of the most underwhelming albums I've heard.

Phobophile said:I felt that Eschaton was their most extreme release. Sure, Codex Necro was a noisy, industrial-influenced aural assault, but Eschaton had more grind influence, more brutal riffs, more fucking aggression.
After seeing each release Anaal put out get more and more extreme, I was eagerly awaiting this release. It's a bit of a step down from Eschaton. It's more melodic and a bit toned down, with a LOT more clean vocals. And if you didn't like V.I.T.R.I.O.L.'s clean vox on Eschaton, you'll prolly like this album less. Fortunately, I kinda like them so it's still a really solid album.
Although I'd like to see another Codex Necro, I don't see AN going back to a more minimalistic, noisy black metal. I do want to see what more they can put out, but with this release, I have the feeling that their creativity is starting to run dry.
Ravager61 said:Ive always heard about Anaal Nathrakh but never really checked them out. I decided to do so due to your praise of their new album and I must say, this is some amazing stuff. Incredibly brutal but still with a sense of melody. How would you rank their albums in terms of quality?

QVT said:You don't want hot pocket!
Sun Caged - Artemesia is what you want!!
Phobophile said:Try Baroness - Red Album or the new Sun Caged, then.
Propagandhim said:I downloaded Red Album. This is great. How have I never heard of these guys? Thanks a ton.
Phobophile said:Check out their first two EPs, First and Second. They're even better.
Phobophile said:Battle Metal was awesomely cheesy. The rest is blah.
fistfulofmetal said:Really, because I think their sophomore album is much better than Battle Metal
SnakeXs said:On a random note, everyone owes it to themselves to listen to Phantom Limb.
And for the gentler metal fan, Dragonland's not bad at all. Quite good, even. Decent balance of heavy to flowery, as far as PM goes.
