Since there are a lot of big music fans here, I thought this would be a fun thread to have. I have seen it done on actual music forums, and it was always really fun to participate.

How it works: I'll post 3 to 5 songs. Someone else will call dibs and pick one song to listen to, write a review, and score on a scale of 1-10. They then post some songs, and someone else calls dibs, and the cycle goes on.... Dibs happen on a first post, first serve basis.

The Rules:

* Time limits: when calling dibs on a review, you have one hour after the time of your post. That should be plenty of time, but can be adjusted depending on how the thread plays out. If an hour goes by and nothing, someone else is free to call dibs. If nobody has called dibs on a review in 24 hours, anyone is free to post some songs for others to review to keep the thread going.

* Don't posts five songs by the same artist, try to put some variety out there.

* To review, you must listen to the song in it's entirety. As best you can, try and pick songs to review that you aren't already familiar with.

* Provide links to the songs if possible. At the very least, provide the artist's name, and song title.

* Have fun!

So, let's see how this goes:

Junius - A Word Could Kill Her

ISIS - Garden of Light

Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks

Homesick For Space - Tension Free

the Cancer Conspiracy - II

I like the idea of this thread, even if apparently nobody else does. D: But I listened to the Isis one, haven't heard anything from them, just heard they were similar to Tool, who I enjoy. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by this song, it has a lot of nice layered guitar parts and nice drumming. I always like songs with a bunch of different parts, and this is no exception, and there's a lot of nice variety in the different parts of this song.

But the one thing that stops it from being an almost perfect song is the, in my opinion, horrid vocals that start at around three minutes. I don't even mind most metal vocals, but these almost ruined the whole song for me. Probably would've been better as an instrumental imo. And I don't think they sound too similar to Tool, maybe the drumming style a little bit, but the guitars are completely different. But I might need to get an Isis album if all their stuff is this good, really enjoyed it.

thanks :) Now, you have to list some songs so that someone else can review them.

I am already familiar with this song, but it has been a while. I like the overall sound of the guitars; that "twang" that put on it. It has a solid buildup and dynamic to it that I dig. There is a lot of good layering, and listening to it now, I find myself listening more to the guitar in the background that has that sort of middle eastern sound to it.

bonus trivia!: Todd Keller, art director for the Metroid Prime series, was in the band playing guitar at the time they wrote this song. :)

8.5/10 (next time, try and provide more than just one song for folks to pick.) :D

Tree - Cemetary

The Constants - Passage

The Melvins - A History of Drunks

Kyuss - (Beginning Of What's About To Happen) Hwy 74
