The Official NeoGAF Groundbreaking Electronic Music Thread™

So I got asked for an interview and did a little mix for a site called Subrewind.

Can check out my ramblings and a mix at the bottom :)

http://subrewind.com/2016/06/converge-london/

T/L is
SpookyBlack - Echoes in my mind (Not On Label (Spooky Black Self-released)
Laura Palmer's Theme - Xiu Xiu (Polyvinyl Record Company)
Ramie - Your Cast Will Tire (Blackest Ever Black)
Shackelton -Untitled (DDS)
The Bug - Mi Lost (Ninja Tune)
Demdikestare - Hashshashin Chant (Modern Love)
Cut Hands - Festival of the Dead (Blackest Ever Black)
Vex'd - Lion V.I.P (Planet Mu)
Millie & Andrea - Drop the vowels (Modern Love)
Bonesqad - VALKRIE (Total Fantasy Records)
Millie & Andrea - Ever Since You Came Down (Modern Love)
Rezzet - Zootie (The Trilogy Tapes)

Think of it as more of a vaguely mixed mixtape than a technical mix (for everyones sake haha)

This just arrived in the mail, and the whole thing is very impressive. "H Ain't Nothing But A Number" (been trying to figure out if it incorporates Aaliyah's "Age Ain't Nothing But A Number" or if it's just a coincidence/nod) is a particular beast, but I can't find any clips or streams for it.

Central - Detour King

PS. Congrats, Johnlenham! Nice work getting your party going at such a quick clip :D

Also, this: City People - A Lil' Tribute to the Moody Black Keys

heading to new york in October, any recommendations for a good night out? no one i'm going with is that into dance music, so pumping techno's probably out the question, but they'd probably be into disco/house/funk/soul kinda stuff.

All the clubs play every style of sound, so it all depends on the day of the week and the time of night. Output is worth looking into, although their rooftop will be closed so it will be less disco-centric. That isn't to say it won't have ANY disco on its agenda, but it'll lean more heavily towards house and techno. Just look into Output. It's fucking great.

Also: Good Room. Two best clubs in NYC right now. Their lineups are out of control good.

Other clubs to keep an eye on: Le Bain, Cielo, Bossa Nova Civic Club, The Black Flamingo, Mister Saturday Night (not a club, but they're one of the best parties in the city), Silent Barn, House of Yes, Analog BKNY (new club, super rad, Testicular Sound System can attest to this, I'm sure), TBA Brooklyn (occasionally worth checking out).

Meatpacking has a bunch of shitty clubs with sometimes good DJs, but I can't stress how shitty they are, seriously. Midtown also sucks for clubs, don't buy into the hype.

Four Tet released a collection of once compiled tracks for free, on his Bandcamp.

Over the years there have been some pieces of music that I have made specially for compilation projects or have ended being released only as part of a compilation album. As time passes I look back at this music and find the context it was originally put in often feels a bit random now. So I have put together this new album called Randoms that brings together this music in a different way. The oldest track here is Field from 1996, the first Four Tet track ever released on Leaf Records Invisible Soundtracks compilation. The most recent is Gillie Amma I Love You which was made for a charity project called BOATS in 2013. All the tracks here have been released before and I am sure some internet searching will give you the full details if you are interested. Thank you to everyone who originally commissioned and released this music. The artwork for this was made by Jason Evans.

2016 is shaping up to be a great, great year for electronic/techno music, maybe even better than last year. So many amazing albums, and we're barely half way through the year.

This is my current top 10 so far (mostly serving as a reminder to myself), will probably shift it around as the remaining months pass:

1. Albert van Abbe - Champagne Palestine
2. Skee Mask - Shred
3. Ansome - Stowaway
4. Leon Vynehall - Rojus (Designed To Dance)
5. Pär Grindvik - Isle Of Real
6. Dorisburg - Irrbloss
7. The Exaltics - The Girl And The Chameleon
8. Cream Soda - Пожар
9. Marquis Hawkes - Social Housing
10. Studio OST - Scenes (2012-2015)

I'm starting to fall in love with more and more electronic music as I practice my DJing so I might become a mainstay in this thread.

A few months old but I just stumbled upon this today.

Blackbear - Califormula (Tarro Remix)

This is utterly amazing

Not to sound like a hipster elitist, but if you're into that kind of trap music, you will probably be better off in the EDM thread (is there a dedicated trap topic?):

This Electronic thread is mainly for the non-mainstream/alternative, leftfield electronic stuff.

Anybody here like this dude Mall Grab? I'm digging it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2ES_EffWbg&feature=youtu.be

He's pretty much an insta-but for me, although the most recent release by him was just meh and I skipped it.

"Can't" is fucking ridiculous, though. So glad I snagged a copy of that and the Hokkaido release before they were all gone.

Saw some friends play on a boat party this past Sunday where Marcus Worgull closed out the last two hours. It was easily the worst set I've seen in a loooooooong time.

He played this, and I nearly died. Usually, I can find myself at least tapping my feet along to most any DJ set. I couldn't even pretend to enjoy myself it was so bad.
