"A black"?
Fuck this movie.
Fuck this movie.
I didnt go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies.
Is "I grew up watching blsxploitation movies" the new "I have black friends"
Every movie he makes has at least 1 Native American though

i think he means, he considered the casting first and foremost, and the cast happened to be white. whereas most movies now have diversity at the forefront of casting decisions
but yeah bad way of putting it
Burton doesn't know any colors except pale.

"things either call for things, or they don’t" is on par with "we only have male characters because the story is about masculinity".
If you consider that his intended meaning, then I would digest his comment about blaxploitation to be where he thinks black actors belong?
JUST
SAY
NOTHING
took it to mean it'd be silly to add diversity to a blaxploitation film for the sake of diversity. not that blacks should be relegated to that genre
Works for Tarantino.

Like, OK, lets have an Asian child and a black. I used to get more offended by that than just... I grew up watching blaxploitation movies, right? And I said, thats great. I didnt go like, OK, there should be more white people in these movies."
Uh, he contrasted his opinion by saying it'd be silly to add characters of color to the brady bunch. And his example of needless diversity was adding white people to a genre of film created literally to exploit black people.
Sounds as clear of a "these people belong here, these other people belong here" argument.
And, again, most worrying is that he seems to be calling blaxploitation great, like it is a legitimate film genre in the first place. The last place we should be looking for cues on proper discussions on diversity is fucking blaxploitation films.
adding PoC to Brady Bunch for the sake of PoC's being there makes the characters token. i'm with him on that's more offensivee, assuming that's what he's getting at
then i assume you find Tarantino worrisome too?
As usual, what I think here is: it's his movie, he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.
If he wants to make everyone blue, or pink, or white or black or grey with strawberry patterns all over, let him.

Honestly, I used to think this and still sort of do. Almost everbody I met agrees with this.
