It is quite fascinating to see WB and Disney struggle so hard to get into the gaming sector. One would think that especially these two companies would have a fairly easy time, since there is a lot of overlap with what they're already doing.
100%. If only these companies knew about AA market and utilization of their IPs as an extension of brand awareness to a GLOBAL Audience in so far as removing the license fee. Note wb problems are in house, I’m only providing an out the box solution.

We're cancelling everything as a path to profitability!!!!

The corporate tax code really needs an overhaul when this is an actual legit strategy.

Concord didn't cost $400M, that was a total fake.

Anyway....we really did a number on WB with Suicide Shit. Next time don't go 100% pure shit woke guys and we won't have to teach you another valuable lesson. There is no audience but us. No one likes Batman but us. We are Batman. You will acquiesce and all we have to do to make you is to not care. No other audience is coming to save you. You've been sold a pack of lies and were dumb enough to believe them. Come back to us or wither out in the cold. We have plenty of money to keep you warm but better hurry because the asian and specifically Chinese games are getting first dibs on spots here in our house now and we're almost full.

Anyone minimally informed about AAA budgets and with a bit of common sense.

You can check the budget of other relatively recent AAA games from the same publisher with known budget and compare the amount of workers in Moby Games and years it has been under development in Wikipedia.

It isn't a direct correlation and the average looks weird because most people doesn't work all these years and there is a portion where the team is small, but you can get an approximate idea and helps to make a decent rough estimate:

  • HFW: 3367 people, 4 years, $212M (avg. of $12741/person/year)
  • TLOU2: 2168 people, 6 years, $220M (avg. of $16913/person/year)
  • Spider-Man 2: 3577 people, 5 years, $315M (avg. of $17613/person/year)
  • Concord: 1972 people, 6 years

Even if being generous* and saying that Concord had a $18K/person/year average, that would be aprox. $213M.

* = assuming the unlikely case that Firewalk (+support teams) had higher salaries slightly higher than ND, Insomniac and Guerilla (+ support teams), or a way bigger marketing campaign

Saying that Sony spent on Firewalk (+support teams) and Concord's marketing twice of what they spend on Naughty Dog, Insomniac or Guerrilla is pure nonsensical fanboy fantasy. It's simply impossible.

Concord's cost (not including the acquisition) was very likely somewhere between $170M ($15K avg) and $213M ($18K avg). So around $200M, not $400M.

So, you just talking your ass here. Good to know.

Again, as much I hate Jason as a person, he have trust source and he never denied this ex-IGN information.

Figures.
No, I'm just talking with factual data and knowledge in the matter and simply offered you a simple way for you to make decent rough budget estimates with public factual data and basic maths, so you don't have to rely in nonsensical 'leaked' fairy tales that goes against of how things work in the industry.

And I'm a dev with 20 years of experience, including in a top AAA publisher and many years in GaaS, several of them in a management level, leading or mentoring department or entire development teams. And obviously with many friends or former coworkers in many places, as it is in several NA AAA studios including multiple Sony ones.

That ex-IGN journo has no fucking idea about game budgets as I do, he made up this fan guess number thinking it made sense trying to pass it as a leak, when it's just a nonsensical joke. He can lick my balls. And Jason's purple haired junior Q&A sources that tell him wrong stuff about topics they don't have any idea about too.

Look behind the curtain people.

You guys got it all wrong. Its another example of money laundering. I bet you their accounting will show toilet paper for hundreds of dollars vs store price 12 dollars to name one.

Upper management bought some nice properties , trips, company vehicles .....lol

Look into the books. Probably 20 percent vent to actual game development the rest into managements pockets.
