Too many, but that changes this year for me. I've been burnt too many times over the last couple of years and so I'm not buying AAA games on day one at full price anymore. I'm also moving away from 40+ hour RPGs since I just cannot find the time to finish them now.

This year I'll be looking at drastically reducing my spending on gaming in general and looking at more indie and AA titles since they appeal to my tastes more than most games coming out. The latest State of Play cemented that for me I think.

Trilobit

Absolutely Cozy
Still Wakes The Deep is the only one that comes to mind. Wasn't worth the price for the game, but worth it to support the developer. Otherwise I'm a bargain hunter. I never feel any rush to play a new game when it releases as I have a backlog I work through and I know there will be most often be plenty of bugs in the beginning.

Last full price game I bought was Elden Ring.

Everything I've looked forward to since has either been unfinished at launch, received mediocre feedback/reviews, or overpriced. I always wait for a sale now or just forget about the game altogether.

The trend of "Complete Deluxe" editions has also put me off buying at full price - it feels like I'm being penalised for "only" paying £60 for the base game and missing out on content for not getting the £100 version. I just pass on those games entirely. Pure greed is driving that and I'm not supporting it.

These days games like Burnout Paradise, Halo 1-3, Split/Second, retro arcade compilations, SSX and Wipeout are getting all of my playtime. Just can't be fucked with the price-gouging, up-sells and games that need 12 months of patches to be playable.

COD- thats it. I’m all over the 80% off or more games since getting my PC. Too many older games I have missed out on.

Unless it's a Nintendo game, I wait for the game to get patched and on sale. Not gonna pay to be a beta tester anymore. Better for your experience and your wallet.

Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. and Alone in the Dark. Unless you count collections and rereleases which are relatively cheap to begin with. I grabbed Castlevania: Dominus Collection on Xbox, Resident Evil 1/2 on GOG, and Dino Crisis 2 on GOG at full price as well.

Hmmm. BG3, which was a double dip on pc since I was kicking my wife off the ps5 where she bought the game. Worth two purchases with the time she has put in. Did that so I could have the ps5 for tekken 8, for which I paid ONE HUNDRED US DOLLARS only to be disappointed by the maddening heat meta inside of a month. The new game feeding frenzy for two weeks was worth the entertainment dollars, though. Stellar Blade- Was pretty excited for that and it delivered. Rebirth, which was amazing and huge. Ninja Gaiden Black 2. Probably should have waited for sale, there.

And I think that's it? For me, that's a lot of full price purchases in a year's time. I'm usually on the thrifty side but the big bets this year worked out pretty good.

I don't think I've bought a game at full MSRP since the PS2 days, dead serious. I just begun to notice a pattern where I'd buy a game at full price and put it in the backlog, at which point by the time I got to it the price had slashed. It just made zero sense to keep doing that. The only full price game I've bought in the last decade was the special edition of BOTW Switch back in 2017, but that was because it was a limited thing and I was in on Switch hype ( I actually bought that BEFORE I got the Switch).

Frankly I'm pretty much 95% single player nowadays, so there's no advantage to playing it day 1 vs day 100. I don't need to be part of the launch zeitgeist. Usually, by day 100 the game has had some kind of patch(es) and a discount( besides Nintendo first party and Sony this gen) so there's even less reason to pay full price nowadays. YMMV of course....

I bought some past years games like Pokémon Sword and Tony Hawks 1+2, but new games were all from GamePass

Stellar Blade, FC 25, Outlaws and Shadow of the Erdtree. AC4, Indy, Alone in the Dark, Astrobot and Civ VII were discounted or cheap keys.

Actually I also bought a load of Pokemon games for my son - I think I used the vouchers though so perhaps they don’t count.

Rebirth and KCD2 so far. You will have to define what full price is though since one cost me around $40 and the other $58 with Season Pass. This is on PC side of things.

Edit: I did buy Infinite Wealth, but not immediately and that on sale. Could have waited longer.

Edit 2: Oh, including last year. Hmm… Rogue Trader, Ghost of T, Astrobot and P3R, but that was once again on a discount.

Buying full price is always a bad deal, but if you really want to play day one and can't find a bargain, you take the hit.

I wanted to play Metaphor and Slitterhead as soon as they were available, so I paid a premium. I have no regrets.

5 games ( Stellar Blade, HD2, SH2 remake, Metaphor, and FF7 rebirth) in physical for Ps5, last year. This year, its two for now, BOPS6 and GT7 for Ps5.

Mr Reasonable

Completely Unreasonable
Zero. I almost always look for a discount or wait for a sale.

I remember games being £40, and each £10 price jump. The switch from £60 to £70 is something I perceive as hitting harder than any other (despite being proportionally smaller, and earning more).

I've bought a few full price games on my phone, but I suspect that doesn't count here.

Used to buy everything day one. But last year Sparking Zero and Planet Zoo was the only games I bought on release.

Wukong
Astrobot
Silent hill
Rebirth
Helldivers
Elden ring dlc
A few indies

Rest were all either free on ps+ or in sales.
Overall that’s way less than prior years, where that day one list would have been twice as long. Just a lot less that seemed to warrant it. I also regret paying full price for rebirth, it’s by a fair margin the worst on that list.

Full price in 2024?

- Super Mario RPG
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

Although they were bought with a Nintendo voucher, so if that doesn't count, then none in 2024.
