so i was pretty into anime from about the ages of 12-16ish, and then at 16 i guess i wanted to chase girls so i just lost interest in it altogether (along with videogames) and haven't seen anything anime-related since (i am 24 now, so about 8 years). anyway, the other day i came across an image of trigun randomly and had all these huge flashbacks about how awesome it was all those years ago. so, a few days ago i...'obtained' the series and basically watched through the whole thing again in two days.

so dope. is this series really 'respected' or is it the typical 'the manga is better' shit? i wiki'd the series - is this film that came out last year worth watching?

It's a generally well-respected series due to its age and genre, and probably considered a classic, but I wouldnt put it in my top 10. It's a lot of fun though, and as far as entertainment goes, thats all you really need.

Watched the entire series and couldn't get into it. Didn't like the story, Vash, the insurance girls, or any of the villains except Knives. I remember first watching it alongside Outlaw Star back when they were both running on Toonami, and I liked OS so much more.

Anten Seven >>>>>>>>>>> Gung ho Guns :P

I don't really know or pay it any mind. The anime is absolutely fantastic, that's all that matters!

Damnit, why did you have to put "(the anime series)" in the title?

I was excited for a brief few seconds.

Where am I supposed to go to post about Duck's Foot guns? :(

I've never heard of such a gun, but I went to the NRA museum near Fairfax and they had a lot of similarly crazy designs. I guess this is as good a thread as any to post it.

Adult Swim introduced me to anime, and Trigun was one of the first series I ever watched. I watched both it and Bebop back when they were regularly being run before Adult Swim went downhill. Little did I know then that Vash's VA would go on to be in basically every English version of an anime series that I watched.

Pretty sure it's both. The manga is much longer and more elaborate (and went on for something like 10 years after the anime ended), so the plot is very different overall.

The anime series is held in pretty high regard, though. It's part of the triumvirate of late '90s space cowboy series (along with Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star).

They still run an hour of Bebop every week (and have done so for a very long time now). It's on pretty late, though. Like 2 am ET.

I recommend watching the Trigun movie that came out a while ago too, I enjoyed it.

Also, to me personally the manga was way better (a lot darker too).

I have this weird tradition that I've been following for around 10 years now- Every xmas eve as I wrap the presents I'll be taking to my family, I put on the episode that's a flashback to when Vash and Knives were little kids. No particular reason... that DVD must have come out around xmas 2001 I guess.

This was the first anime I ever got into, and for that it's special. The manga is pretty cool if you get a chance to read it, the manga/anime have similar relationship to the FMA manga/anime. The anime is loosely based on the manga, but diverges part of the way through.

I still like to reminisce with the anime's music from time to time.

I've always loved it but I'm a sucker for a Westerns, especially when put in the future (Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Outlaw Star; the holy trinity). I think the manga is better though, I'd do anything for that to get the same treatment Fullmetal's manga got. Anime is still good though. Animation doesn't hold up at times but the music is tops and I think the story and characters are interesting enough to consider it a show worth watching, if an arguable underrated classic.

Back when I watched anime, Cowboy Bebop and Trigun were my favourite series. I don't think I have seen anything released after 2002 or 2003 though.

Be sure to check out the movie, Badlands Rumble (US release is September 20something, Bluray is already out in Japn). It's good fun.

Yeah, I basically agree with this.

This show had a fucking killer soundtrack, though. If one thing about Trigun has aged perfectly, it's Tsuneo Imahori's music.

Trigun isnt so "space" as it is cowboy. I know what you are talking about though. Loved all three of these shows and I own them. They never really seem to get old either.
