Twitch stopped being a gaming website from the minute they opened the doors to Just chatting and IRL streaming, which was around 2015(when IcePoseidon blew up in views). That's almost 10 years of hangout streams, walking around towns, gambling, musicians, podcasts, dating shows, debate shows, politics, etc.

I know that some here are not in tune to this(which is fine, no judgment), so I wanted to give the heads up for what Twitch in the 2020s is like.

They are trying to be Youtube 2.0, not a dead gaming-only website like Mixer or that one Sony owned streaming service that they swept under the rug mid-PS4 gen.

I can't remember where I saw/heard it, but I remember someone claiming that Twitter is the world's biggest porn site. It's possible to search Twitter and find pornography, just like you can search it and find people tweeting about video games, their daily lives, etc, etc.
Yet, Twitter is still quoted in the media as a way of measuring public opinion. It retains a sheen of respectability.

I wonder if Twitch are gambling on being able to do the same?

In theory, I don't see why they couldn't - as long as they keep things separate. In practice, I'm not sure if the pornography will become their main revenue and they'll just transition over to becoming something else, following the money. It could get tricky for them if they want to be an ad-supported service and streamers don't label their streams properly.

It's a risky bet to be making, if this ends up changing their image, it'll be hard to come back from.

Yes, because clearly YouTube hosts Porn. YouTube also has decent age controls, it isn’t great mind you, but decent enough and separate YouTube Kids app.

Twitch does not as far as I know. Which is why I let my kids watch YouTube (in a somewhat limited fashion) but Twitch is off limits.
