Two weeks in Tel Aviv. Go.

First time I've ever flown overseas, and it'll be two weeks near Tel Aviv for business. I'm 27, not into nightlife - more so high culture, classical music, historical monuments, but especially natural beauty. I plan on renting a car so that I can visit places that are a little out of the way, and I'll be going in early May.

Got any suggestions, recommendations, travel tips? It's all new to me.
 
I'm surprised no one has responded yet. I wouldn't mind knowing as I'll be over in the ME later this year as well.
 
Of course you should go to the great (but small) beaches, you should visit Jaffa (walking trough old streets). Walking trough Rotshield Blvd. is also nice.

There's a great art market, don't know the name but I know it's only 1 day in the week. You should ask a local if he knows the name. You should also check Carmel Market, it's just a market but it's interesting to see local foods etc..

Don't take a cab, instead take the minivan bus (sherooth). Much cheaper and a fun way of traveling.
 
And enjoy the nightlife. That's what I did. Great venues and great vibe and absolutely stunning girls.

If I don't forget about it I will post some pics when I get home from work.
 
I'm here now. 2 am on a Sunday morning, jet lag is a bitch. I'm in a hotel on the beach, it smells great and the view is superb. I love the climate. Too bad I'm awake in the middle of the night. I've been told it's not really safe to go out walking at night here.. (Bat Yam)

I have a friend who is a flight attendant and people are required to be in their seat 30 minutes prior to landing. This one yahoo wouldn't sit down so he just said "I don't care if you sit down or not. You can sort it out with Security when we land." The guy became surprisingly compliant then.

Go to the old city in Jerusalem. Visit the Bahai Gardens in Haifa.

Go check out the Gideon Springs which are also right near the Dead Sea.

Climb Mt. Masada.

Shoah Museum is pretty amazing.
 
Old city in Jerusalem is done, and went in the Dolorosa, saw Christ's Tomb and saw the Wailing Wall. So much history in such a compact space.

Still, I think the thing that left the biggest impression on me was when I finished the 17 hours of flying, went up to floor 20, went into my hotel room, feeling all dizzy and tired and dazed that it was still daylight, and was greeted with this:

You must go to downtown Tel Aviv or Jerusalem on Friday night. Nightlife is better than most European cities. Go to the beach in Tel Aviv or Herzeliya.

Also:

Masada
Yad Vashem (Holocaust Museum)
Dead Sea
Old City in Jerusalem
Sea of Galilee
If you're into hiking, there a lot of great treks in Israel.

Did you go to the Yad Vashem? It's supposed to be very impressive. I am really sad I missed it when I went to Israel because of the Jewish New Year.
 
I really enjoyed Tel Aviv. It's an old city with a really young vibe.

I really like that it's been chained to a post on the sidewalk for what apears to be a very long time, and no ones bothered to remove it or trash it.

This is the inner wall in Bethlehem right before/next to the check point before you re-enter Jerusalem.

I was in Israel for almost a month, and it was great - I highly recommend vacationing both there and in Jordan.

It's amazing. There's this big huge HUGE circular room where the entire inside of the walls is all packed shelves with testimonies, with an inner roof in the middle with a ton of photos. It's the thing that made the biggest impression on me. Wait a sec I'll try and find a photo.

Did you go into the building that was pitch black inside and had lights set to look like stars? Inside they repeated the names of all the children who died - three times - in Hebrew, French, and English. It was intensely moving, and I was thankful for the darkness.

That's the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, right? I was there about a week ago. Amazing church, though overcrowded. I didn't get as much time in Tel Aviv as I would have liked, but Jerusalem was amazing.

5 shekel falafels on the Palestinian side can't be beat.

Jerusalem is the most beautiful city I've ever been to. Somehow it goes straight for your heart.
 
Head up north to visit Cesarea, Haifa and Akko and right up to the border with Lebanon. I forget the name of the place but it's right on the border.
Also, you should visit the dead sea, masada and Jericho while in Israel. But I like old jerusalem the best.

The Bahá'í temple in Haifa is definitely worth seeing, and so is Masada, but the Dead Sea was so boring. The hotel was very nice, the spa was great, but other than that there wasn't much to see. Five resort hotels next to a large body of oily feeling (I know it's the minerals) water.

Was anyone else kinda disappointed by the river Jordan? It was a creek. I mean, there were places I could jump over it. If I stretched before hand, I may have been able to straddle it.

The dead sea is alright for a quick swim in the salt and knowing you are at the lowest place on earth. Yeah, the Jordan river is nothing any more and the dead sea is evaporating so damn fast. I was there in 2004 and again this year and couldn't believe how far it has retreated.

Yeah, it was incredible to see those hotels that were abandoned because of the waters retreat.

Did they let you enter Jericho? We could only drive by because we were with some Israeli citizens. *womp womp womp*

OP - If possible you should pop over to Jordan and visit Petra. It's kind-of amazing. Plus, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - need I say more?
 
Yeah, go to Jordan. It's awesome from what I hear. Also very, very safe, and very western but still foreign at the same time.
