I voted for Poirier to win, but expected a much shitter McGregor and sharper Poirier to turn up.
McGregor was the better fighter and landed some great shots in that first round, guy has homing missiles built into his gloves and found his chin a couple of times, could have ended in the first round if the dices rolled slightly differently. But McGregor got sloppy, made no effort to check those kicks, and gave zero fucks about staying in the centre of the octagon. If you can't move and find yourself against the fence, Poirier is going to wail on you like a fat kid who got his candy bar stolen.
Humble McGregor is the worst too, he needs to bring back the swagger and shit-talk if he wants to keep raking in 34 million a fight.

Dustin did well, Chandler too. Tsarukyan looks good at lightweight, he impressed at his loss to Islam a while ago & won 3 in a row now. Rountree was robbed. Herb stopping, restarting the Ribas fight. Split decision where 1 fighter looks like he got mugged in the early prelims. The shit show is entertaining soooo.
Lightweight looks great with Oliveira & Tony in the mix.
@artemlobov was all over the GAF, soz ArtemisClydeFrog . Hope you enjoyed the show. We'll see ya at the general thread.
Edit: Gang gang
I love Theo. I do listen to the King and the Sting every now and then. I would be in for Gaethje vs Chandler ALL DAY. Talk about a scrap.
Also side note: I am sad that my booboo Amanda lost her fight but there is definitely potential there for growth. Her opponent was much stronger than her. Even from the down position she was getting overpowered at times in the 1st despite Amanda controlling the whole round. Come back stronger Amandaaaa
You can tell Dustin used to throw down in the streets when he was young. He constantly goes to fix his shorts out of habit even though you don't need to with MMA shortsConor looked stiff still tbh
Dustin looked like his normal self, as said before Dustin can take damage and is a slugger, especially at that weight
Made conor look easy tbh
I know everyone is talking about Conor as expected but let's be real. Michael Chandler was the true biggest story of the night.
Dustin used the same strategy as Connor did against Diaz 2, he took his legs away from him. As soon as I saw connor not checking those kicks I knew it was coming to an end. Dustin took his legs out from under him and he had no where to go but take those shots because he couldnt move. Anyone who fights Connor should do this because the guy doesnt know how to defend against it
I am glad Dustin won. McGregor hasn't been fighting like his usual self and he just hasn't been interesting.
Conor lost that Aura ages ago. He wasn't even undefeated going into his climb. Also the UFC completely ruined Aldo.Conor has a problem in that everyone knows his tricks by now. He's very skilled, and typically gets reads on his opponent faster than they get on him, but without the psychological component of his world-class trash talking he's just another good fighter.
That he's so classy in defeat just shows his pre-fight shenanigans as a ploy to get inside his opponents head and make them fight his fight. To be honest I think this realization is what killed Aldo, he realized after the fact that Conor played him; using his pride and emotion to rush in and get sloppy.
Bottom line is that McGregor no longer has an aura of invincibility and everyone who faces him knows and expects his wind-up tactics. He's still a prospective champion, and doubtless a good box-office draw, but he's going to need to start picking his opponents more carefully.
Nah he just needs a better game plan, if he started checking hose kicks his leg wouldn't have been tore up as much as it was to the point where it was an easy way for Dustin to finish him off. Connor wanted the flash KO victory but hopefully this makes him realize he needs to use his entire skill set to get W's, much like against cowboy, he tried a few quick left jabs and then went for the head kick that finished him off,Conor has a problem in that everyone knows his tricks by now. I disagree completely on the takes making it seem like submissions are some sort of lesser thing compared to a KO/TKO. Especially since there are rarely if ever "fluke" submissions. Submission is actually more humiliating in the grand scheme of things. Not just that but Khabib dominated Conor for the most part(rounds when Khabib was resting more but the crowd got excited when he landed a few shots on Khabib). Which is far more telling than what we just saw with Dustin. Not saying Dustin had some flash KO or TKO. He methodically worked him. Khabib wanted to destroy and humiliate him... and accomplished just that. In a sense, Khabib did to Conor what Conor did to Aldo(minus being screwed over by the UFC). As far as the fight itself, he was his own victim as was Askren to Masvidal.I dunno, he's a striker so losing by submission in his previous defeats never really impacted his aura in the same way as this last one. Admittedly the way Dustin ate up his leg with the calf-kicks did the heavy lifting, but its still a TKO. Big diff from how he lost to Khabib and Nate.
For my money the one time he really impressed me was his utter dismantling of Eddie Alvarez... most of his bigger victories have been more flash than substance imho. Its kinda what I was getting at with Aldo, I mean coming off that how could Jose not feel like the architect of his own undoing? He got drawn into Conor's circus due to his pride and machismo being hurt in the lead-up and got himself tagged and KO'd straight off the bat.
I'm a big believer in Dom Cruz's perspective that the truest victory comes from dominating your opponent completely for the duration. Its not as glamorous as a flashy KO, but in terms of really seeing the fruits of your training and gameplan pay off... its not even close.
yes, his fight with Cowboy made absolutely NO SENSE.

Though I do feel your last line almost contradicts the first considering Khabib did dominate Conor. "Let's talk now"
