But I thought online play on PC was free? So logically it would make sense to pick the PC version over the console ones since you don't have to pay, yes? Interestingly, the console versions still sell more despite this.
Maybe they play more War Zone?

those numbers are pathetically bad. Is the industry headed towards a crash, or is this because the Xbox platform is no longer driving any business for the CoD franchise?

Sad either way.

I have a suspicion that if it was the case we already would have heard about it.

So it turns out Jim Ryan didn't need to launch 12 GAAS games to recoup the potential losses from COD going Xbox exclusive. In an alternate timeline we could have been playing the new Naughty Dog game this year, sigh

Just jumping in to say no, that alternate timeline never would have given you a new Naughty Dog game this year. The new IP that's being developed under Neil didn't start until mid-2020 when TLOU2 wrapped up, and typical AAA games take 5-6 years these days. Nothing at all to do with TLOU Online.

Didn't Satya already said they got record number of subs? Which they also said after starfield so not sure how much it matters.
Funniest part of this is the wording. He said biggest increase in a launch and then he forgot to say if total subs are at an all time high which raises suspicions that Game Pass lost subscribers since the 34 million disclosure and BO6 couldn't recoup them.

Meaning that Game Pass is at its ceiling.

15k PS4 sales. held back your 5TH game this gen just to get 15k sales. get fucked Kotick.

Sales are down across the board. Even lower than MW3 even though it was an off year. At first i thought this was physical only. Half of MW2 when Black Ops typically holds its own is not great. Disastrous sales on Xbox. I wouldnt be surprised if thats a typo. it is that bad.

i dont think in their worst scenarios, microsoft was expecting this kind of drop due to gamepass.

These STUPID companies are drunk on the belief that they need to keep making last gen versions of games. When will their stupidity end?!

It's the usual PR stuff.
Single day new subscribers record, same as Starfield.
It's kinda obvious with such a big franchise, it's the biggest game they ever put on Gamepass but without actual numbers it's pointless.
Also these numbers should be sustained and create a new baseline for the service otherwise it's again pointless.
We'll see if early next year they're able to announce a new Gamepass milestone.
If not they just damaged their sales for nothing and spent 70 billions in the process.

With those numbers this must be the last one.

Although it depends on last gen Warzone numbers also thinking about it.

Well, I mean in terms of total subscribers. This pr chirping doesn't mean much

The PS5 is up 30%.....which was the biggest platform for sale to begin with.

This is just UK, but if that translates to other regions.....PS5 might be the one doing the heavy lifting.

Holly fucking fuck LMFAO

Imagine in the rest of Europe 🔪

It'll be even worse in other EU regions. The UK is by far Xbox biggest european market and they're still getting destroyed by Playstation

Sony must be happy right now. They're still getting the vast majority of sales without having to spend millions on marketing anymore.
It should be noted though, the 10-year deal of CoD on competing platforms that was a condition for the ABK acquisition will only last 9 years now. After that, PS will be toast!

(if there's a CoD or ABK at that point)

Comparing BLOPS6 numbers to MW2, seen as thats the best comparison. Unless Gamepass subscribers are through the roof AND stick around then this must finally cost Phil his Job.

Because thats a lot of sales if it translates WW

Edit: Actually that doesn't line up with what Nutella said the other day. Nor does it line up with Steam CCU's. Maybe the rest of the world will pull Phil out of the shit.

I wouldn't be suprised if Xbox has its best result in the US( besides it being xbox's biggest market). Feel like their marketing campaign predominantly targetted the American market. It might give Xbox a more flattering picture.

Although if it is a repeat of UK, surely Phil might finally lose his job? Doesn't make sense to keep the same guy in charge given how much the company has declined under him.

Question now is, have GPU subs increased by a noticeable amount? If not...
If You Say So Wow GIF by Identity

Surely they got some of the call of duty players to play through gamepass instead of buying the game. Even still it's not really gonna be enough. These subscription services have hit a ceiling and stalled. Been hovering around the same numbers of subs for ages.

Yes, this is an amazing result for Microsoft, the sales were UP on PS and a peak for subscriptions on GP.

Without retention, it just means they were selling the campaign for cheap.

Also don't forget that for the past few years initial buy-in on a COD still practically required you to pay as much again over the year on Battle Passes!

Anyone who subbed just for the campaign id argue would not have bought this game, not at full price anyway.

Your second point on battlepasses is way off the mark. You dont need one at all and even if you did you can buy the first one and provided you finsh it (not hard) you get the next one free, and so on.

Imagine buying fucking Activision and still being in last place. Takes a special kind of incompetence to do that.

37K. LOL :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Without Activision, they would have started to foreclose first party and hardware within 2 years. Now, they're going to slide right into full blown 3rd party, since Activision is literally keeping them from being in the red, big time.

That’s another topic… But this results are a really good start for CoD and GP, at least in UK.

Anyone else feel like Microsoft is about to check out from the hardware business?
Yes, I think this is their last 'official' console.

I've thought this for a while now and pretty much all of their actions in the last year have suggested as much.

I expect them to either stop entirely or do something drastic.

I just don't see why they would go through so much R&D and marketing when you can just ditch that cost completely and sell games on PS5, Nintendo and PC...with little to no risk instead of fighting an uphill (losing) battle constantly.

They’re contractually obligated to develop Switch 2 versions for the lifetime of the system. That doesn’t mean there’ll still be PS4/XBO versions too but every CoD for the next ~7-8 years needs to be content and feature complete on Switch 2!

This is a good result for Microsoft no matter. Xbox looks bad, but as a publisher this looks good for them. It was an expected result I’d imagine.
Launch week unit sales have dropped 46% in two years.

UK first week (retail+digital)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (MC75 OC75)
Total Sales : 679.000 units

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (MC56 OC58)
Total Sales : 433.000 units

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 (MC85 OC84)
Total Sales : 368.000 units

I'm kidding. Maybe. Fuck you, Matt Booty.
I don't mean this as a meme but I think there's a high chance of that actually happening. We already know that hardware is a losing business for them in terms of margin. And the CFO said a while back that they're moving from low margin areas to high margin areas. There's a substantial chance that this is the last true microsoft-produced xbox console (maybe they'll give it another shot with a handheld or 3rd party steamboxes that license the xbox name).

Fail to see the news or drama here that so many are painting. 🤷‍♂️

Of course Xbox sales will be down, because a large part of their player base will now be doing so on GPU - which is exactly what MS want is it not?

Extra PS5 players means a bigger profit for MS, because they get 70% of the sales.

And then they sit back and roll in the cash brought in from everybody buying gaudy skins.

Ker-ching?

Would be absolutely hilarious if msft wants Sony to be console king in order to get additional publishers aka msft becomes a software monopoly on the gaming side with Sony as a hardware monopoly.

I expect next box to be the last Xbox hardware. Also day1.

the op makes me curious of the gp subs increase as since there is no ownership, all progression/mp is locked on either game purchase or rent.
