VGC: Disney is reportedly considering appointing Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson as the successor to current boss Bob Iger

That’s according to the Wall Street Journal’s sources, who claim that Australian-born Wilson is currently one of three external candidates in the frame for the job.

Internal candidates being considered for the role reportedly include Disney Entertainment co-chairs Dana Walden and Alan Bergman, ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro, and Disney Experiences chairman Josh D’Amaro.

Iger, who is in his second spell as Disney CEO, is due to step down when his contract expires in 2026.

Wilson joined EA in 2000 and has served as its chairman and CEO since 2013.

“Prior to becoming CEO, Andrew served as executive vice president of EA Sports and Origin where he led the global EA Sports business, as well as EA’s digital PC service,” according to his profile on the company’s website.

“Previous to this, he led all aspects of EA’s online organization, including the company’s Asia business operations and direct-to-consumer services. Andrew also served as vice president and executive producer of all EA Sports FIFA games, growing the IP into one of the most popular video game franchises of all time.”

During his first spell in charge of Disney, Iger oversaw the acquisitions of Pixar, Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm and 21st Century Fox.

A Bloomberg report last October claimed Iger’s deputies were pushing him to consider acquiring a major game publisher like EA.

Senior executives wanted Iger to explore the possibility of transforming the company from a gaming licensee to a gaming giant with major first-party capabilities, it was claimed.

As well as working on various Star Wars titles, including Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi series, EA is making “several new games” based on Marvel properties, including Iron Man and Black Panther titles.

Purchase DLC to watch the third act of a movie.

I genuinely think this is a bad move for him. Disney is a legacy company now. Young kids don't give a fuck about them and they're trying to gear their output towards existing adult fans. They're running out of ideas and burning money with no real end in sight.

They might pay him well but I don't think it'll do his reputation any good. Disney will probably manage to make some money over time but their days as the de-facto Behemoth of the entertainment industry are behind them.

Andrew Wilson is absurdity terrible at managing intellectual property, which should be the raison d'être of a Disney CEO. Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Dead Space, Battlefield ,Battlefront, Burnout, Need for Speed, Ultima, Sim City, Command & Conquer; billions of dollars in IP they just refuse to monetize properly.

Wait isn't this the douche who pushed the whole woke Battlefield 5 shit because of his 13 daughter playing fortnite and didn't like that there weren't women soldiers so he changed it, or am I thinking of a different douche?

1. Iger will never step down, whoever takes this job with Iger alive will be set for failure. Just look what happened to Czapek. Iger is the type of megalomaniac, narcissistic CEO that will never let it go.
2. LOL.

I think it's bigger news Iger might be replaced.
Yeah, I agree. Just the other day I was thinking about when Disney would consider new leadership or a change in direction. They really need it because the company seems rudderless at the moment.

Not really. When he came back(originally for a 2 year contract) the board announced that part of his job would be searching for/developing a successor. The contract has been extended once, but the plan was always for him to right the ship and help them transition.

Bring back the good old Disney and end twisted woke agenda.
Eh… this is revisionism. Disney’s long, long been very gay-friendly. Woke-ism was borne from the whole LGBTQ+ friendly thing, it’s just taking that agenda even farther.

If this wasn't real life, I would say that is a lazy plot, but holy shit... It's asking to be hated

This guy is evil in the context that would do what needs to do to appease Disney. In their eyes this guy is clear the right man for the job, but will not end well for consumers.

That really is the absolute perfect person to be running Disney. Couldn't have a better option, considering what kind of company it is. Bravo.
