WaPo: Trump admin sought to block Sally Yates from testifying to Congress on Russia

With the sheer number of Trump campaign senior staff implicated so far, there's no way Pence wasn't at least aware of what was going on, which would be enough to oust him.

We'd be getting a politically castrated Paul Ryan instead, or Nancy Pelosi if he blocks this long enough that the impeachment happens after 2018 and Dems retake the House.

Paul Ryan would be saluted as a national damn hero if he managed to both remove Trump and preserve Obamacare (by accident).

That's the standard that we have now.

My guess is that sally was going to say she told Pence about Flynn.

They are trying to plan for the fallout on that.

So yeah we kept him on for three weeks, then made up a story about Pence not knowing about it, so we could make it look like that was why we canned Flynn and not the "fake news" Russian story.

He's Political Bighead from Silicon Valley:

He's just going to keep failing upwards despite him being a fucking idiot of the highest caliber. The best part is that he was the only Speaker that made sense in the House and he couldn't get it to work, so if he's gone the House falls apart.

I don't know. Pence was good at feigning ignorance when it came to developments that he had to have known while he was governor.

There are literally millions of words of reporting, testimony, data, facts, locations and resignations connected to this.

This was Rocket Scientist's post about Trump's wiretapping claims:

Rocket Scientist said:
Wow again. How sad can you people be? You really think that joking about something like this is the best course of action? He was indeed probably wiretapped, which is a huge deal. Stop it with this childish bullshit joking around. All the liberal bubble joking around is how you got this dumbfuck elected in the first place. Grow the fuck up and get serious about getting rid of him.

Fairly sure he never came back to that thread to respond to people calling him out. He's not worth the keystrokes.

Funny how just this morning there was a R senator (forget her name) on CNN saying the Senate side is way more bipartisan then the house so hopefully this joint conference is good

When you represent a whole State and not just some gerrymandered congressional district, you typically have to be a little more pragmatic.

Good to see it happening one way or the other.

On the conspiracy theory front - I'll say this. There's too much smoke surrounding this issue to dismiss it as nothing but conspiracy. I think any person that's been following this story simply wants a clear answer. Whether it ends up with Trump being implicated or exonerated - it doesn't matter to me. I simply want it to be thoroughly investigated and I would prefer that to be done by an independent body. Bi-partisanship is well and good but we're talking about a foreign power meddling in our elections and the possibility of a campaign colluding with said power to make that happen. That's a fucking terrifying thought. Whether you happen to have an R or D next to your name it shouldn't matter.

Yep. To add to that, Clinton's email shenanigans wasn't a conspiracy either. It was a legitimate investigation into whether Clinton violated the law as SoS, ultimately finding that she did not, nor would have anyone in her place. Some parts of the coverage around it got a little conspiratorial, just like some parts of this coverage get conspiratorial, especially tweets from randoms that sometimes unfortunately get linked here. However, legitimate news coverage like this is *not* a conspiracy theory, or anywhere near a conspiracy theory.

Also, what Clinton did was wrong, but ultimately a mistake. If anyone in the Trump campaign is found guilty, it wouldn't just not be a mistake, it would be full blown treason. There is a huge difference in the magnitude of the consequences a guilty determination will bring, and thus every facet of the investigation must be taken with the utmost seriousness.

Ultimately, if the FBI and all find Trump & co. not guilty, that is what I will go by, because I would be a hypocrite not to. If I can't have faith in the intelligence community in this country to determine whether or not traitorous actions occurred, I can't have faith in this country at all.

Interesting they'd go with these guys instead of people like Yates, Flynn, Manafort and them.
Building a case that the Russians acted with intent to disrupt our election and institutions. This builds the framework underwich they question IC or other witnesses.

Please be something. And please have a camera locked onto Nunes wherever he's hiding

At most, expect an announcement to set expectations. We will not be hearing about the results of the hearing until well after it's occurred in the Senate's own report. What I am hoping for is further calls for an independent investigation.

People don't think the investigation into Hillary's emails themselves was a conspiracy, people think that the way Comey handled publicizing it was completely unprofessional. There's a difference.

Nunes is constantly speaking in these half truths. He leaves out key pieces of data and then counts on people to fill in the blanks.

I am sure that they did contact them by phone and email and it could be argued that those contacts were part of the process to bring Comey back, but they never actually asked.

Yup. "Comey can't make it" = "we contacted the FBI and no one responded", if even THAT is true.

i mean they can sent emails to wrong address or call a wrong number. but didn't know it was wrong at the time.

And passed it off as "WELP HE CAN'T COME!", purposely passing along a misleading statement that makes it seem like Comey himself rejected.

Ahahaha. Nunes really needs to realize just how fucked he is. Best to jump shit right now.

He has been attached to trump since the beginning, he only has that job because he was an early trump supporter. Before this, he was a nothing congressman of importance.

He knows could go down with the ship if something comes out.

Nunes: Hello is Director Comey, there?

FBI operator: He's not in at the moment. May I ask who's calling?

Nunes: <click> Welp I tried

Nunes aid: Maybe you should try contacting them via email?
Nunes typing: [email protected]

Hi,

Can Comey come to a meeting?

Kindly,
Nunes

After a few hours.
Nunes: No reply, hmm. They're not interested.

Sure, but that wasn't what I was talking about. It was specifically a response to a response about the left acting like the conspiratorial right.

Burr was on Trump's transition team as well if I recall. That or some advisory committee.

He might be another Nunes just smarter at hiding it.

He didn't want to do an investigation at first as well.

This has never actually come up legally, but probably no - Treason is one of the few crimes explicitly mentioned in the text of the Constitution, which means it probably is not included in the pardon power.

Whatever charges could potentially come out of this, treason won't be one of them. Russia is not officially an enemy of the US. Doesn't mean this isn't horrible shit, but treason is narrowly defined for a reason.
