When I lived in a condo way back, the guy next to me dinged my door and he drove a normal car. Like any shared parking layouts, it's rare anyone can wildly swing open their doors fully. Although it can be doable if someone has a reasonably sized car it's a bigger Costco spot or by luck the guy next to you parked his car edged away from your line. But good luck having a large truck/SUV open its door in a condo lot.

Suburbs are full of people driving massive vehicles that don’t get used for anything but groceries or commuting. This isn’t really that big of a deal everywhere but when you get closer to cities it can be a pain (crowded parking, narrow lanes, pedestrians, etc.)

Lots of people get unfairly categorized based on the vehicle they drive. I drive a Prius, and people assume I'm doing it because I care about the environment (I don't) or because I'm weak or effeminate (I'm not). Turns out, I just enjoy spending only $20 a month in gas to get to work and back easily.

My Honda Fit that was my commute car died. Unfortunately, I replaced it with another jeep. One jeep gets about 12 mpg and the other 18. My wallet has noticed. On the plus side, people give me rubber duckies.

I like pickup trucks - especially in rural settings, like midwest towns where I grew up. Very useful, and practical. If I move back, I'll most likely buy one for myself.

But in the area that I live in - NYC area - I can't see myself driving one. Streets are narrow, parking spaces are tiny and also garages charge more for bigger vehicles etc... and unless you are hauling materials and tools (like private builder/contractors) - I just don't see any use for myself.

I swear that they got bigger because rules to regulate cars sensibly basically forces these vehicles into the Truck category. They aren't cars, they are luxury lorries that existed out of a loophole. It also means smaller pick ups (with same size bed) aren't sold anymore. This truck has a bigger bed than the F150.

Get one if you want one, but don't pretend you don't know why people find them ridiculous.

People driving cars dont do that shit running over curbs and mashing dirt and mud.

Being from the UK, makes sense you have no idea what you're talking about. The truck beds might be near the same length, but they are not the same size. And you sure as hell aren't hauling the same amount, in weight or volume, in that little truck. Never mind the fact those things don't have airbags. They're fine if you're in an area where you're driving at very slow speeds, but if you think that's a replacement for a full size truck, you're wrong. You're asking to get into a fatal accident in that thing.

The gas mileage on current trucks, full-size included, is actually really impressive. An F-150 V6 with a 2.7L engine gets 26mpg on the highway. That's not far off from my wife's 4 cylinder Toyota Rav4. All trucks have been steadily improving their gas mileage as part of improved fuel economy standards. So, you're wrong there. And they're only going to keep improving over time. Not to mention Chevrolet, GMC, Ford, Rivian, etc. all have EV models now.

Gas mileage aside, most of these trucks are mechanically proven and reliable. There's been some down years here and there for the major truck companies, but by and large, they just last a long time. It's not unusual at all to see 30+ year old trucks on the road, still being used for work.

it's not exactly the same because trucks cover a much larger spectrum, you have people like dads with kids or contractors driving real nice ones upwards of 100k or you have hicks without mufflers, playboy decals driving 5k shitboxes jacked up on huge wheels and confederate flags playing monster truck rally up and down your street. not saying there aren't plenty of bmw douche bags / coolguy types, but it's a smaller vertical slice of society.

the closest I can think of with bmws are people i've known to get the cheapest base model for reasons like when they go and pick up their kids at soccer, other parents won't keep their kids away, compared to some kid with an m8 who lives out of his car.

There is nothing wrong with trucks. Their great. My F150 gets better gas milage than the little Hyaundai Tucson my daughter drives. I can fit all three kids comfortably and load the bed up with luggage for vacation. I live in western PA in the country. I have 4wheel drive for snow and can haul things for house repairs.

People that say no one should have them are cat lady's in apartments with no kids or too broke to afford one and are jealous.
