I remember one time having an argument with my father that got weirdly heated in that he said John Bonham was the greatest rock drummer of all time and I tried to convince him that while Bonham was awesome, any pick other than Jaki Liebezeit is the wrong pick. My dad had no idea who the fuck Can were. To this day I regret building my case with words instead of just putting this song on. This beat is fucking hypnotic. It's tight, it's aggressive, it's funky, it's fucking perfect.
 



Now this is music! Played from the soul. Piano and bass solos are out of this world.
Listen to that sound of Trane and tell the that aint the most characteristic saxophone sound you ever heared.

The GOAT: Queen, my favorite band, one of the only bands that I listen to daily. I'm going to share some of their lesser known songs and some of the more popular here, if I know some of the story behind it; I'll include it in a spoiler








This song is about Brian May losing his kitty, he obviously loved her very much.


Another song that is quite obviously about a cat. I share quite a similar relationship with my own cat Kashmir (named after the Led Zeppelin song, if I knew this song [my dad never played it when I was younger] when she came into my life Delilah would have been her name instead).


The whole band, aside from Freddie, was incredibly uncomfortable recording this song. They thought the whole thing was over the top, but good ol' Freddie made them all do it and expressed his feelings for their ex-manager in this song composed of raw hatred.


This song has a n-bomb in it that is ALWAYS glossed over in lyric videos and on lyric websites. They like to say it's "...a little bit of sugar and a rub-a-dub-a baby oil..." but the official lyrics from the album itself are "... a little n***** sugar and a rub-a-dub-a baby oil..." It blew my mind when I learned that.


This is going to get sad. This song was written by Roger Taylor (drummer), who was basically Freddie's best friend, they dressed in drag together frequently. Freddie was awfully close to the end of his life in the recording of this music video, as can be seen in his appearance and even his behavior. He knew it would be his last, so he fussed over his make-up and even criticized his hand movements, which was met with many words of encouragement on the set. If you watch the making of it; you can really see that he just wants his last hurrah to be special. His faces in between takes are kind of heartbreaking, but you can see his dedication to his art. I'm a huge Freddie Mercury fan and seeing him like that is conflicting, it's heartbreaking and warming at the same time. He's such a beautiful person, I wish I could have met him at least once in my life.
 
John Prine passed away, so I've been pouring one out for him and listening to some of his songs. I grew up with my dad listening to this guy like every fucking weekend and I absolutely hated it for so many years lol. But the older I got the more I understood it and came to appreciate and even really enjoy some of it. The guy was very talented and a good writer. I love that bit from Sam Stone "there's a hole in Daddy's arm, where all the money goes....Jesus Christ died for nothin', I suppose"
