what is the best fanservice free animes for adults

Has story and plot and characters but isn't some magical cat girl tripping over and landing in the harem.

I've enjoyed shonen animes like Inuyasha inspired the past but I'm I'm looking for new ones that are closer to police procdurals than brothels.

Monster (70 episodes) is exactly what you're looking for. Serial killer story with a huge emphasis on the police procedural element, set primarily in Germany, but spans other parts of Europe, too.

It's the most realistic and down to earth anime I've ever seen. Not even a tiny bit of fan service. The story and characters are immaculate.

Edit: Pluto (8 episodes) is another anime you might like. By the same guy that did Monster. No fan service, it's another serial killer story that also happens to be a gritty, police procedural retelling of Astro Boy in the vein of something like "I, Robot":

Couple more:
  • Gungrave (26 episodes)
    • Very Berserk-esque, but no nudity. Mafia/horror/revenge story.
  • Trigun Stampede (13 episodes)
    • Trigun/Gungrave are written by the same guy as well. Sci-fi/revenge story.

Attack on Titan, and as someone who recently binged the whole show, you’re either going to love or hate the final season.

Edit: Also I like how this thread is just a remake of that other recent thread but with an added ‘can I watch every episode in front of others’ caveat.

Looks like someone struck a chord.

Is it that hard to wrap your head around the fact that some people consume media for reasons other than cheap jabs at trying to satisfy incels and teenagers?
A chord will be struck for multiple people because OP’s criteria automatically eliminates some all-time favorite shows, like Cowboy Bebop for example.

You're right and I agree. But there are still varying degrees of fanservice and at least Faye looks like and acts like an adult instead of some young girl with the physique and mindset of a 12 year old.

I grew up watching anime but as an adult I just realized it's not for me. I tried watching it with a friend the other day and it's bizarre how much of it is targeted at horny teenagers. Anime isn't for me as a straight, adult male. Maybe women and teenagers can still enjoy it, however.

Nearly all of the best have some level of hot girl in skimpy clothes shown at awkward camera angle at some point

Easier to just ignore that it's there tbh

For shonens Hunter X Hunter and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Vinland Saga are probably safest from memory. Though HXH has equally weird gay villain moments

Cowboy Bebop, Cyberpunk Edgerunners, Jujutsu Kaisen are all good but I don't recall if they have fan service

Sports anime like Slam Dunk and Hajime No Ippo are safe bets too, just dudes competing in sport

So, do you want zero fanservice (I'm reading this as pervy stuff) or just without an emphasis on it. Monster is the only anime I can think of (that I've seen) that fits. If you're willing to overlook it to a small extent then more would open up.

Psycho Pass (Season 1) is a great anime focused on a group working for their version of the police in a dystopian future. They've implemented a variation of the idea of getting to criminals before they commit a crime based on their thoughts and emotions (similar to the movie Minority Report). It's aimed at an older audience and has nudity but I can't recall it being played up as pervy though it's been quite a while and I may simply not remember. Can't speak for anything past season 1 though. I heard it wasn't as good.

True, honestly it all depends on what OP thinks. The context you just added might not matter if he wants shows completely free of it.

To be fair, and this isn't a comment towards you, just in general, but I see this as an opportunity for those types of people to broaden their horizons.

If the OP's question triggers some people because it makes it difficult, or impossible, for them to recommend their favorite shows, then maybe they should watch some of the ones that get recommended here, instead of staying insular to the one's with fan service.

Odd Taxi if you want a good story focused on a main character in their 40s which is extremely untapped potential.

Fullmetal Alchemist, Parasyte, Monster, 20th Century boy, Pluto,.. are 10/10 masterpieces.

Kurosagi, HunterxHunter, Berserk, Yuyu Hasuko, Jojo's blizzare adventure,..

Maybe Detective Conan if you can bear that the manga will never end... Just case after case...

Wow I was hoping to get at least one but this is a treasure trove. How could I have forgotten about trigun? Stampede is great. I will definitely be trying all of these.

My bro in law claims I should watch it. I'm scared of by the skinless monster man with teefs showing.

Ok trying not to fill the thread with any more over replies than I'm doing now, but these all sound great, thanks for taking the time to share.

Attack on Titan is part horror, part action, part drama, part political intrigue. There won’t be many jokes at all and at times it can even be depressingly grim. However it is a mature show that ticks a lot of boxes western audiences would like, including the themes it deals with which are pretty heavy, especially in the first half of season 3 and most of season 4.

Audiences are torn on season 4, however I personally feel the first 3 seasons are pretty incredible. The pacing of the first 3 seasons keeps you on the edge of your seat in the best possible way.

Without spoiling, my main issue with the show is that it feels like someone crammed an 8 season show into 4 seasons, and the pacing of specifically the last season feels like seasons 5-8 extremely condensed into one very lengthy final season. Any new setup done in that final season isn’t given enough time to breathe before final events begin to occur.

I’m giving you (and others here) a heads up on this in case you ever decide to check it out. I was not given the same heads up, which is why I feel torn about where I would place this show on my top lists.

Gonna copy/paste my comment from the other thread, with some elaboration for your specific question.

Attack on Titan - none. Watch this show, you won't regret it.
Berserk (1997) - no fanservice, but scenes with nudity and sex (some really intense).
Cowboy Bebop - limited fanservice, mild and very infrequent.
Erased - none.
Fullmetal Alchemist (2003 over Brotherhood, IMO) - very limited, maybe 2 or 3 extremely short scenes in the entire show (and one ending credits).
Ghost in the Shell (The movie, and Stand Alone Complex and Second Gig) - not fanservice, but the Major's outfit might put you off if that's your concern.
Monster - none.
Neon Genesis Evangelion - an uncomfortable amount.
Robotech - one shower scene that barely qualifies.
Samurai Champloo - one episode in the red light district, and a couple short scenes otherwise (similar to Cowboy Bebop).
Steins;Gate - very little, mostly in Steins;Gate 0.

Future Boy Conan - great story and chars, Miyazaki docet
Giant Robo - 7 episodes OVA, retro sci-fi and great aesthetics
Mushishi - dude that goes around dealing with supernatural entities masked as insects/bacteria
Keijo - ...nevermind

Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 I'd say.

don't let the names fool you, Steins;Gate 0 is the sequel not a prequel.
