Aka stealth age thread.

Anyway the first single I bought was Will Smith "Getting jiggy with it"

No regrets.

The first single I bought was an accident on Google Play and I missed the refund period.

1.29 that I do regret. Radioactive - Imagine Dragons. I don't mind the song. But really, what a waste.

I usually purchase albums. My first being Appeal to Reason by Rise Against. Then Graduation by Kanye West.

As a kid and getting into music, I started out by having my parents get me cassette singles at first. Then as I got more into music I moved on to the full albums. Anyway, I'm pretty sure it was "Bad Boys" by Inner Circle. I use to love that song so much.

Dr. Dre - Nuthin but a g thang

I had bought albums before, but singles were a foreign concept to me until I saw them one summer visiting the US.

Don't think I've ever purchased a single. I don't really see the point.

EDIT:
Wait, I might have gotten "Now" by Paramore last year.

Peter Schilling - Major Tom

Usually I bought albums, but that was an exception for some reason, got it as a 45. English version on one side, German version on the other.

It stopped making any sense when digital music caught on - even during the Napster era of the late 90s. But before that, it was a way to sample music inexpensively.

Yep. Singles were much cheaper than the full album and as was already stated you usually got an extra song or maybe remixes. Like, buying a single for a few bucks versus spending $20 or more on the full album.

Yup.

I miss cd days kinda, waiting outside the store for a new album with a bunch of people was awesome.

the 45 is the perfect format

I don't even own any I just love the concept of the a side and the b side

they also used to be non album tracks back in the day

I think my first single was The Bartman on cassette 😎

There were generally two reasons. One, for people who weren't fans, but liked that one hit song, they could just buy that one song and save money. For people who were fans, there would be a "B" side, which would often have a song that didn't make the album.

Usually there was a reason it didn't make the album, but sometimes it was actually good, like Led Zeppelin's Hey Hey What Can I Do or Def Leppards Ring of Fire

And then in the cd era, you'd have cd singles that would often have several remixes of that one song, which was often pretty neat.

Adele's "Skyfall"

It was the first thing I listened to while driving.

It also wasn't featured on the Bond themes soundtrack, so I didn't mind.

Eminem - The Real Slim Shady

My Nan and Auntie were not impressed when I put it on the CD player, and the swearing started. Needless to say, it was confiscated.
I think I was around 12/13.

I was never into buying singles. Maybe it made sense in other economies, but in mine, a single was like half the price of an album. 2-4 songs for half of what 10-15 songs would be just didn't make any damn sense.

That said, I do believe the TURTLE POWER 7" was my first single. First albums were Use Your Illusion I & II.

First cassette single was "3am Eternal" by KLF and first CD single was "Shut em down" by Public enemy.

I found the cd single recently and saw that I had wrote what i thought were the lyrics in pencil on the inside of the cd cover, was pretty funny as i interpreted it as mostly nonsense as a kid.
