Anyways, thank you for the stories. Big part of why I joined GAF was because I liked the moderation and that continues to this day. It always encourages discussion.

I am pretty sure that was me. Story was I got last minute invited to go lobby in Washington for a certain bill a specific Tobyhanna Army Depot contract wanted to pass. I didn't have time to get a suit fitted properly, unfortunately, since I was literally invited only a few days out from having to actually go for a week. As a heavy guy back then it was difficult enough to find a suit that fit right.

Had a great time though. Met congressmen, partied, got a personal tour by Kanjorski of the Capitol Building and we accidentally ran into Nancy Pelosi in the process. Good times, good times.


God fat-era Amir0x sucked though. I am now 180lbs. Down from 280lbs.

Congratulations on the weight loss! That is quiet an achievement.

Within my first couple of weeks on GAF someone posted this awful picture of this hilariously nerdy looking dude in a suit that didn't fit him and said it was a photo of Amirox. in retrospect they were clearly joking, but for about 18mos I had this image of Amirox as this ridiculous overweight greasy fucking dweeb IRL.

I remembered some kid who got banned a couple of years back, came back under an alt account and began posting (I believe it was in both poetry thread and some other thread) pictures of all the mods saying, ".....these are your overlords!!!" and "wake up you damn drones." He ended by posting some very disturbing porn right after. From what Amirox described of himself, I think that picture was there too of a earlier him (Amirox). Unless it was another "nerdy" looking mod with long hair.


edit: I guess not since in those pics he has short hair.

It's a fair point. Understand, though, that Dragona was a very senior part of the mod team, talking like ten years, and she did a lot of positive things with her mod actions as well. And she was one of the only people actively modding the gaming forum at the point where the Lyre situation came up, so I had to take all of that into account when I found out about it.

The thing about bans is that they're never for what you expect they will be for. Like, I undoubtedly deserved all my bans in retrospect, but I dunno, there have been a great many times I've taken things way too far and I feel like a ban in imminent, and then it... just doesn't happen.

I think I've only been banned...twice? Once for gif spamming and once for posting the poster of the movie The Believer in some religion-gaf topic way back when. I was permajuniored for a while until I got some admin attention in a tag fishing thread.

I can't believe there were only 4k people on GAF when I joined and there are nearly 80k people now. No wonder I remember so many of the old schoolers and don't recognize most posters nowadays. This place is huge. I used to be able to see everyone who was logged in without scrolling down the page - and I was probably on 1280 x 700 or 800 x 600 back then! I'm browsing in 1920x1080 now and I have to scroll. Damn.

Never notice how many people are actually browsing at a time. I mean, I started lurking in late 04. I've been looking at posts here for 6 1/2 years. That's barely half of GAF's life. And when you look in a thread from just 4 years ago and most of the people mentioned don't even post anymore, its pretty amazing how GAF still has this level of continuity.
