According to the original title ("Jûbê Ninpûchô"), it's more of a quire, but anyway, I believe the idea is that it's a written account of Jûbê's ninja adventures. So the quire/scroll/whatever isn't something that appears in the story itself.
Same voice actor (Yamadera Kôichi), too!
(And Utsutsu Mujûrô, the blind swordsman, was voiced by Wakamoto Norio, like Vicious.)
Speaking of which, the complete Japanese title of that one is "Basilisk ~Kôga Ninpôchô~", and there's the same idea of a written account. It's a relatively common thing, for titles of ninja stories.

I just watched this for the first time tonight. At first I was like "Damn, Yui is pretty bland." Then I thought about it and realized I never joined school clubs, have no real talents, like interesting stuff, and hate being excessively hot or cold and now I think she won the episode.
