With MS porting popular titles over, Hellblade II is one I haven't heard anyone ask for.

If you were to ask people during the launch of Hellblade II if that game was amazing, you'd hear hyperbole such as GOTY, one of the most fun titles, blah blah. The same PlayStation fans who were being accused of just hating the game for being Xbox exclusive I've seen cheering on even bringing Starfield and Halo Infinite for that matter haven't been calling to bring what some journalists were saying was a rock star game.

So after all of this time, is anyone even wanting this game or is it true that people really didn't care about it outside of the graphics?

because its not a game, and its been shunned even by xbox users.
you realize xbox pr spin machine didn't even bothered to post a "download number" for this one.
people ignored it even on gamepass.

I agree but during the time, people were literally saying it was GOTY material. As a gamer, I just love playing games about a mental disorder I don't suffer from.

It was an arthouse project that never should have been funded. One of Microsoft's worst developer acquisition.

Ninja theory need to pull their heads out of their own asses and make a game that isn't an artsy movie masquerading as a game before they get shut down. I doubt hellblade 2 made them any profit and it's because no one cares about the franchise outside of a small niche of people. You could tell that during the process of making hellblade 2 that they were blowing money left and right when they kept showing those dev diaries of them traveling to iceland and bragging about visiting all these locations. Quit sniffing your own farts and make a game with some actual gameplay and a story that dosen't consist of a woman screaming constantly.

i recall hellblade 2 being hyped by xbox marketing, ads and youtube shills but just about everyone else could clearly see it was just another boring game, wasn't that the consensus?

I tried both on gamepass and couldn't stand playing them for more than 30 minutes. I was so board.

And I say this as someone who LOVES heavily cinematic games. This...just ain't it though.

whenever i see dev teams visiting locales it only makes me think they are just exploiting their job function to get a free vacation somewhere. you don't need to visit a place in person these days to be able to recreate scenes from it.

It's the combination between mostly being a cinematic movie and overhyped for 5 straight years. Leading up to HB2s release, pretty much every Xbox event would show HB2. Xbox fans thought they were getting a massive AAA experience. Only to find out 3 months before launch, it was a 50$ AA game that was 6hrs long. Nobody really cared about it by the time it launched

The foundation is there for a good game all they had to do was just change it from a walking simulator to an action game. Instead of walking from point a-b they could've had the player fighting their way through.

Oh, I bet it had millions of downloads on Game Pass.
And then millions of uninstalls after 45 minutes.

MS was desperate for something to show and ride it out for 3 years. Then right at the end they jumped in to check expectations. They basically wrang it out for hope that games were coming. They knew it was no God of war but happily played it up as their answer to Sony's games. Textbook Microsoft, really.

I never finished it but there was decent gameplay in what I played albeit infrequent and masked due to the lack of HUD, it was the infuriating puzzles and story that caused me to quit.
They could have made a badass hack and slash game out of it, the battles are really intense and if they could have increased the scope of them they would have been insane.
Instead we got what we got - an art house movie take on a game.

Today in things that never happened. But it's you so…

Finished the game for a 2nd time, and got all collectibles. My score is 10/10. Every concern I had melted away on 2nd playthrough and I actually ended up liking it even more, noticing more subtle artistic touches and grasping the pacing and story much better on my 2nd run. It may not be a completely perfect game in every way but I think its close, and its got several elements of artistic genius. Nearly perfect cinematography, perfect audio, nearly perfect acting, best graphics in a game ever, movie level fight choreography paced in the levels well like a film. This hit me as hard as seeing Avatar 2 but I got to play along. Game is a masterpiece.

Went ahead and bought it to support it. Hope they finish with a part 3 faster than they made 2. And cant wait for Project Mara either. Congrats to Ninja Theory. Will take a major Nintendo release or something else really shocking me to dethrone this as GOTY for me personally, even if it is a borderline new genre / interactive film.

I played it using Game Pass and couldn't last more than 90 minutes. Might be my most hated gaming experience of the past 5 years. The voices in my ears were SO irritating. I wanted to throw off my headphones. The "gameplay" was shit. And even though the graphics were amazing, I disliked the black bars.

You don't need the game, you need youtube and you've finished it. If it makes you feel better press a controller stick forward as the video plays.

Hellblade 2 did its job for well over 4 years - from December 2019 to shortly before launch when reality took hold - a pure marketing stunt of a project designed to hype up the Series X's capabilities and possibilities.

Hopes and Dreams for the xbros.

That it was a complete all-trousers no-balls con job is quite fitting. Port not required, thx.

People can dunk on Hellblade II all they want. I am still glad this game exists. Shouldn't be at the expense of what Devs could have made instead but still its a "cool game".

Even after that I have only played the first one.

Today in things that never happened. But it's you so…
Oh it did
Not like I have played a lot of new games, but it's my temp GOTY as well. There are a few things I wish they could have done differently, but it's one hell of a visceral, emotional journey.
Don't get to play much these days:

Trying to do an hour of Hellblade 2 a day so I have around 5 hours in that. Safe to say, it is my GOTY so far

People calling Hellblade II not a game is a compliment, it shows how cinematic the gameplay is & by them watching it on youtube they thought it wasn't the player actually playing the game haha

I really do hope it releases on PS so they can see how much of the actual combat/gameplay you have control of.

I'd be interested if it was a VR experience. Otherwise, honestly couldn't give less of a shit.

Hwllblade 2 would look amazing on ps5 pro. Well worth a play through for the graphics, but deffo use headphones.

If you wanna be friends with crazy bitch for 8 hours.

This is the sort of game I might consider playing if it was added to ps plus. Might.

All I remember was the initial reveal for it. Some weird live performance and I just completely switched off it.
