Xbox 360: Needs more Sunshine

As much as I like the 360's current library, and the multitude of great games on the way this year, I do declare that the 360 is lacking sunshine.

Gritty, moody, gorey, dark sci-fi. Where the hell is the sunshine?

It is screaming out for palm trees, blue seas. Hell, it wants Green Hill Zone.

But yeah on the whole I agree. Even games like Overlord are a nice change of pace from the standard 360 library.

Halo, the biggest title for the 360, is pretty colorful sci-fi though. Palm trees, blue seas, sunshine, green hills...it's got it (which is, among other things, why I like it so much :D ). I like my games colorful too.

Of course Viva Pinata and Kameo.

DOA:X Volleyball seems to be summer-holidays-sunshine all the way. I actually nearly picked it up last week just because of the rotten weather we've been having..

The sad thing about Viva is it's got a great engine, but a gameplay style that really doesn't take advantage of it. From the camera angle you spend 90% of the game at it look good, but not as amazing as the in-engine screenshots you see.

I don't know, when all those pinatas are walking about and doing their own cute stuff with the background music...it looks even better.

Well, the thread quickly proved that you just weren't looking that hard at all...

Jeez, looks like I need to pay the thread a visit again - haven't in a long time - those look dead-on!
I tested the NeoGAF Image Browser program and collected all the paintjobs posted in that thread up to page 34 or 35. At least I hope it did that, there are probably some missing as the program is quite buggy.
It's a 36mb zipfile of 300+ screenshots http://www.mediafire.com/?4dbmmbe4z3j

The animation is fantastic, but I just remember sort of not noticing the visuals after playing for awhile, seeing as the whole game looks so similar for the most part. It's not like Gears or something where you can be wowed by a new area.

Viva, Banjo, Forza, H3, Flatout, AW...

:lol Oh did I forget Viva? Great game! It's a great addition to the 360 library. Not that it needed any games to help it out. But it is a great game, not only Nintendo can get non gamers.

It's tons of fun and you can literally spend hours working on your garden! Not to mention it's made by Rare as well!

Lets not forget H3 with the awesome water like the one in H1! long beaches and crazy lighting really bring out the enviroments.

Seriously, 360 has a lot of diverse games. It's not just sci-fi and fps. Nope, no way. The library is expanding all the time and will bring in lots of new gamers with the wide assortment of titles suited for everyones tastes.

= realism.

Then again, Halo 3 is quite colorful. And there's a lot of Palms in DOA X: Volleyball.

SONIC the Hedgehog 360 has sunshine. ;) I actually got this game new off of E-bay for under $20.00. The real game is better then the demo. I was expecting bad controls, and levvel designs but it is actually good. The worst part about the game is the loading. Unlike other, I realize that sonic has had the extra characters for awhile and don't complain becuase it is just not only sonic like the old 2d Sonics on the Genesis. Anyway, that game has beaches, and sunshine, amd forests.

Oddly enough, my biggest complaint with that game was that it was nighttime/rained too often. :lol

Oblivion is pretty damn bright and happy, when you're not in a cave at least.

But I agree, more blue skies in games. More carefree and happy games like Eternal Sonata.

Those of you posting screenshots are not getting the point. :lol

Is the point a retarded and highly original troll then?

It's hardly even true, the big thing about showing off impressive lighting techniques is you need a buttload of lighting. GRAW is nothing but sunshine and night vision.

Which is funny, because they are all emo and suicidal.

I thought the original point was there are too many intense games and not enough...happy games...

No, his point was about the look of a game not the tone. People posted some screens of colorful looking games.

Either that or he worded it badly.

While I agree with the OP (if his assertion is that X360 needs more happy stuff) and this week's GameTrailer panel, I think Rare will have the first party covered going forward and especially starting this year. More happy-happy stuff is always good. Few developers seem as qualified to do those kinds of games outside of Ninty and Rare...at least for big, epic fun 'G'-'PG' stuff. Sony's got Insomniac and Naughty Dog to rely upon, and Ninty has, of course, themselves. Whoever it was that said it (Satter?) was right, IMO. MS needs to give more marketing time and focus to these kinds of games otherwise people won't know to watch out for them and will continue to maintain that these kinds of games simply don't really exist on the platform (OMG all FPS'BOX360!!1). On the non-packaged retail end, MS also needs to get their asses into gear with more marketing love for XBL Arcade and its huge library. Again, I agree with whoever it was on GT's GH segment.

To me, that description is not just about the look, and I agree with him. Trotting out Viva Pinata screenshots does miss the point. I love the 360 and will buy one as soon as I'm able, but the library is heavily lopsided towards the realistic, cynical, and violent - more so than any other system. Wii60 indeed.

What about Live Arcade?

And there seems to be even fewer "Sunshine" games on PS3.
