Xbox Game Pass Leads To Huge 'Player Engagement' Spike For Gotham Knights. The initial surge on PS+ did not match that of GP

Gotham Knights was a pretty major Xbox Game Pass drop last month - sure, the game didn't get the best reception at launch, but a relatively new 'Batman' game is always going to make a splash on Game Pass - and that it seemingly has!

As posted out by Circana's Mat Piscatella (NPD), 6% of all tracked Xbox Series X|S players tried out Gotham Knights when it was first added to the Game Pass library last month. That's compared to a measly 0.3% before its arrival.

Interestingly, the game also went to 'PlayStation Plus Extra' later that month - and its addition there didn't have as much of an overall impact on the PlayStation platform. The two ecosystems have now evened out in regards to Gotham Knights players, but Xbox Game Pass seemingly had a bigger impact on arrival.

Of course, the title would have likely had a bigger impact on PlayStation if it landed on PS Plus Essential - but the same could be said about the newly-formed Game Pass Core library. Anyway, it's interesting to see how big Game Pass drops like this have a substantial impact on a game's player base - even when something like Gotham Knights is a year old at this point!

We were more positive than most in our initial Gotham Knights write-up from last October - we reckon this one is absolutely worth playing, especially now that it's on Xbox Game Pass.
Hey, James Ryan㊗️👵🉐

I mean...Spider-Man 2 just released on PS5. Even with some of the problems I had with that story, it's by far the better superhero game and PS gamers will be enjoying that.

What else is there to play on Xbox?

The fact that anyone on any platform wasted time on this game instead of playing any of the hundreds of other games at their fingertips is certainly indicative of something alright.

Can someone please check the achievements, how many % of players even played to e.g. the first boss or through the first level or whatever shows a playtime of over an hour?

6% of all tracked Xbox Series X|S players tried out Gotham Knights
is pretty vague

It's like Netflix claiming millions have watched their newest movie if a watchtime of 2 minutes counts as "yes sir, you have watched the movie"

But it doesn't? They are about on-par (and both are trending downwards, but I guess we need more data).
In GaaS - temporary rises are the one thing noone cares about - if you don't establish a higher baseline as result, the spikes mean nothing.

I'll admit...I did give Gotham Knights a go. Arkham City this game is not...but the co-op alone made it worth playing with a friend. I wouldn't play it solo though.

"The two ecosystems have now evened out in regards to Gotham Knights players,"

Look at the graph too. Series players tried it for a few minutes then came to their senses.

I'd imagine PlayStation users wanting to play a superhero game at the moment would be overwhelmingly choosing Spider-Man 2. It's still a fairly recent release.

Just shows playstation player's have better taste. Although there were other very good games added to the catalogue at the same time so I'm not surprised we didn't have to stoop as low as Gotham to get our kicks. Not to mention Spiderman 2 coming out.

Lol you Xbots sure choose the stupidest hills to die on…Are we supposed to be impressed by this 'revelation'? 6% of players played a shit game for a indeterminate amount of time…BIG FUCKING WHOOP, OP get your tongue out of Fills ass its clearly affecting your brain…

What a weird post in an extremely sony dominant forum.

It doesn't seem to me that the chart 📈 shows this as something positive. A larger proportion of Xbox players tried the game and then dropped it.

That's all.

And what's worse, it opens the door to a bunch of jokes about how there is nothing interesting on Xbox platforms compared to Playstation.

Of subscriptions on Xbox, Microsoft's leaked info showed that two-thirds were Game Pass.

Sony doesn't shy from dishing out actual numbers and we know that a third of PS+ subscriptions are to Extra or Premium.

In other words if you are presenting 'percentage of players playing' data split by console type, double the amount of Xbox players could access the game vs. that of PlayStation.

And would you look at that. That's exactly what the numbers reflect. Xbox is double PlayStation.
