Xbox Game Studios boss says multiplatform approach is ‘good for players and developers’

Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan has labeled Microsoft’s multiplatform strategy a win-win approach for players and developers.

Multiple former Xbox exclusives have been released for PS5 and/or Switch over the past year, including Sea of Thieves, a game which Duncan oversaw the launch of during his previous role as boss of developer Rare.

During the latest official Xbox podcast, which is viewable below, he was asked what he thinks the Xbox community should take away from Microsoft’s multiplatform approach.

“Yeah, I think it’s good for gamers, I think it’s good for our studios,” Duncan said.

“Our studios make amazing games, and we want to give those games the chance to reach the broadest audience possible.”

Just say that you have to do it because you don’t make enough money on just Xbox and PC.

2 years ago Todd Howard said it was so much better to develop for just one platform.
Now it’s good for their studios to make multiplat releases.

If they didn't have Microsoft to buy up those third party publishers they would be auctioning off the few ips that are synonymous with the xbox brand right about now

It's a good thing for them now that xbox is doing poorly. No doubt it's good you can play where you like though. With Koji Pro we might even get a simultaneous release on everything for DS2.

Isn't it like beating a dead horse at this point. We already have had articles with Satya ( the man calling the shots), phil( the man sucking off the man calling the shots), etc say the same thing, what feels like, dozens of times now. Surely at some point we no longer need articles saying Xbox games are coming to ps and switch?

I mean, is this not obvious?

Exclusivity is bad for everyone except the platform holder (and in Microsoft's case it was even bad for the platform holder).
Not long ago some would have you believe that competition with exclusives is the sole reason games are created by platform holders. If they believe this then those people should also believe exclusives are good for people, but they often toe the company line which changes every other month.

Xbox Flop Studios' new imperative is to make games that people actually want to buy. And for that, their games need to be big, better, or the best. So, in theory, going multiplat should be substantially better for Xbox Flop Studios, and as a result, fans of their games should get titles that meet and exceed their expectations.....in theory,

Nobody tell him.

Amazing to see some are still in denial about Microsoft going 3rd party even after FH5 gets announce for PS5.:messenger_grinning_sweat:

So who's gonna make the OT for FH5 PS5 when it releases. :messenger_grinning_squinting:
Highlighted my post with me clearly saying "Full 3rd party". Xbox team adding FH5, a game over 3 years old isn't going full 3rd party...

My post was towards the people saying Xbox is dropping hardware & going to only publish games to all platforms. That is full 3rd party. Why would Forza be the game that shows Xbox is making that move when games like Sea of Thieves have already been brought to the PS5. Xbox is simply expanding their franchises to make profit. Same way Sony is with PC.
