Xbox officially launches Game Pass Standard

Starting today, we are launching a new plan for Xbox Game Pass – Game Pass Standard. This plan brings together features that players love about Game Pass for Console and Game Pass Core, while providing an additional option when you are deciding which plan is right for you. If you’re still wondering which Game Pass plan might fit your needs, we have the guide for you.
As players, we all have different approaches to gaming. Maybe you’re a PC player, or perhaps enjoy playing online with friends. Maybe you’re gaming on a budget, or you want to play the latest titles day one like the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 in October. Providing options to you is important, which is why Game Pass has several options to choose from.

Choose the Plan that’s Right for You

Dive in and discover your next favorite game today.

Game Pass Ultimate – Are you a player who wants the total gaming experience? Then Game Pass Ultimate has what you need. Including all the benefits in the other Game Pass plans, enjoy hundreds of high-quality games such as Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and Diablo IV, including new games on day one like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on your console, PC, and cloud. I think it’s good to give people choices (you know like a disc drive in your system) but this is getting ridiculously confusing. Two tiers was fine..
Why all the hate for MS and Xbox series S?

I know that Sony is the only one offering choices (disc attachment for all their new models including the PRO)

But I agree with you, offering choices is the right call.

They should do a GamePass TimeShare.. Where you and a hundred other people can barter and sell time slots! Will your time end up on big launch weekend? who knows!!!

The original pitch of Standard didn't have online, thus making it useless. I think I remember going on a rant about it here. They fixed it with this announcement, but for some reason, it being next to core makes core feel even more redundant now especially if they're still both the same price.

Edit: Nevermind they made it cost 5 more.

That's a different tier you're thinking of.
they've made it confusing then.

I only sub a month for a new game when there's a good one anyway, so I guess I'll just be getting ultimate when I do. Just pay the extra few bucks and remove the headache of using a spreadsheet to see what is actually available.

So the tiers are pretty much only for the xbox right?
PC gets everything.
then on xbox you essentially have three tiers depending on how many games you want and how soon???

As far as i can tell there would be no added benefit of getting ultimate on the pc compared to the standard one..

very confusing

It is stopping day one release, but they also have retroactively removed these day-one releases from before.

We knew you weren't going to get new games on this tier till possibly 1-2 years after ultimate but it seems they've also removed games that are less than 1-2 years old too rather than only applied this rule to future games.

that's kind of dirty, they aren't day one anymore.

so i guess that's "category" and not literally a game that released that day. Kind of dirty way to do it.

Game Pass Standard – you get access to hundreds of high-quality console games in the Game Pass library.

Game Pass Ultimate – enjoy hundreds of high-quality games such as Starfield, Forza Motorsport, and Diablo IV

  • Diablo 4
  • Forza Motorsport
  • Starfield

This infographic is really confusing/misleading. You’d expect the bullet point of “hundreds of high quality games” would be equivalent on both Standard and Ultimate, but they’re not?

PC gets all day one games for $12/month. Console standard is $15/month and seriously crippled.

Ultimate for PC users would pretty much just just give them game streaming.

I can't think of a more patronising way of them announcing this, considering it's just a pay wall to day 1 games they've all of a sudden decided is needed

I like Xbox, their games are for me.

But wow are these different Gamepass tiers confusing. They’ve made a bit of a mess of it to be honest.

Wow, it's almost as if Microsoft chose to do this yesterday, knowing the news would be buried under an avalanche of PS5 Pro articles.

they probably thought the backlash of the pro gives this a better light. but yes its pretty much burried because people want the pro but its just expensive af
