demigod demigod GHG GHG I didnt vote for GOTY last year and I won't this year. I won't mention it again in threads like this either. Really no point talking about my personal favorite games on here.

KCD2 is a landmark game and will go down as one of the best games of this generation once all is said and done. I can't see how anyone who has played that can vote for anything else in good conscience.

I also loving Dynasty Warriors Origins, but for entirely different reasons to KCD2. It's just amazing to see the series finally steps in to the modern era.

Oh stop being a baby. At this point everyone knows you pretty much only play gamepass slop, so every time you play something that isn't a complete pile of shit you think it's the greatest thing ever.

Kingdom Come 2 by far.

I thought Wilds, but it ending up being not the strongest of Monster Hunters. It's good, but it's not fucking awesome like Worlds is (or tri, or 4U)

2025 so far…

PS5
Ninja Gaiden II Black
Resident Evil 2 Remake

SWITCH
Donkey Kong Country Returns

Still need to try First Berserker & Ender Magnolia.

Haven't played any new games this year, I've mostly been focusing on the backlog.
The 2 best games I've played this year are Cyberpunk (finally) and Nine Sols

KCD2 by a mile. It has been excellent from story to immersion to characters to side quests. It has been a joy to explore and play.

Its depiction of medieval Bohemia was excellent as well and graphically the game was great… barring maybe a bit too much NPC facial features re-use (understandable based on budget).

Even combat while not amazing, grows on you once you understand the mechanics.

It's hard to overstate how good KCD2 is. The world and the quests are brilliant and the main story is just so well written. I'm 90 hours in and think I still have another 30-50 in there before I'm done.

KCD2 is a once in a generation game. It's going to take massive revolution to best that. Most games including MH Wilds continue to refined the same wheel. That's why a game like that (while selling significantly) better doesn't do anything for me vs a truly amazing game like KCD2.

Avowed so far.

Have KCD2 installed and Split Fiction is next.

But honestly, Avowed will be hard to top.

I think KCD2 is great, just the combat, hopefully I can make it fun or bypass it completely. Its kinda unacceptable at the beginning.

Haven't played a lot of games so far. Among the new releases I have played, probably-

Foundation. A quirky city builder with pretty good customisation options and mechanics.

Assassin's Creed Shadows for me. Game is really good. Do I think it will remain GOTY by years end? No.

Avowed is a close second. That game was a hell of a lot better than I ever thought it would be.

So far?

Diablo 4 🤷‍♂️
First time playing, tried it through GP and it's awesome, it's currently all I'm playing.

Avowed has been a positive surprise too after all the online negativity, not done with it yet but for now it's definitely up there, warts and all.

Wreckfest 2, early access, got me laughing a bit.

Ninja Gaiden 2, no fan of the camera, it's weird, but otherwise it's a solid action game, first time playing it for me.

Probably a tie between MH Wilds and AC Shadows, but I have to give it to AC.

It's the first game this gen that truly gives me that 'current-gen' feeling.

I was thinking of getting KCD2, Avowed, and Assassin's Creed: Shadows, but all were woke infested, so I haven't bought any 2025 release.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remaster, and Devil Summoner 1 Remaster are tempting.

Diablo 4 is awesome.

Played some 50 hrs. Have set it aside for now. Patiently waiting for more expansions to drop. It can really take over my gaming time.

Avowed, I say, wait to finish it before you take final call on it.

Yeah Diablo 4 took over completely for me, it's all I'm playing now.

Btw how do I see my playtime?

I play the Gamepass version, which isn't synced with the Xbox App for achievements and playtime for some weird reason (seriously, why is that????), so can't see any stats on my Xbox profile, and no playtime is shown in BattleNet either.

No experience in Diablo 2 so can't judge how it is compared to that but imo it plays great. The skill and gear upgrade system is perfect, it really push you to experiment since you can refund skills and move gems and gear bonuses etc. Love it!

As for Avowed, yeah I think I'll walk over the finish line when I'm done with Diablo. Was just about to enter Shark's Teeth when I started with Diablo. I enjoy it a ton tbh. A 2.0 update of sorts with added interactivity and some morale system for theft etc would take it far up on my list over western first person RPGs.

None for now, wilds was a huge let down, shadows is the usual 7\10 ac game where you see everything after 10-15 hours, avowed was ok at best and atomfall is way too flawed and easy.

Kc2 is a great game but i'm a combat guy and combat in that game is super dogshit, sorry.

Hopefully we get both gta6 and crimson desert this year.

Tempest Rising demo, good old RTS fun, got me playing C&C again after the demo went offline. Can't wait for release next month.

Not played any 2025 release yet.

Mine is Apex Legends which I've gotten back in to, and I have to say it's still fantastic.

Feel like I should be posting this on ResetEra or the Kotaku staff chat but I actually haven't played any new releases all year. I beat Dead Rising Remastered which I got for Xmas then tried and failed to get into Banishers.

Just been watching TV ever since. All the games this year are just too long. Would have pounced on Kingdom Come of it was 3rd person though.

Not sure. Am on console. Its pretty simple there. Click on full profile, then in achievements, click on game, then stats.
Yeah that's the usual way but for some reason they don't sync anything from BattleNet into Xbox App on PC. No achievements, no playtime. 🤷‍♂️

Avowed for me so far but I don't think that's a crown that will last long in the year. Its just the most hours I've put in a game so far in 2025. Solid game though and I would NG+ if the devs patched the feature in.

Year is young though. KCD 2 is on my list but it was pushed back because I finished KCD 1 like a week before KCD 2 release and I just was 100% saturated with Sim RPG and needed a palette cleanser.

Hmm so AC shadow gameplay holds up? Were you a fan of the recent open world AC games?

Split Fiction for me. Even better than It Takes Two.

Lot's of time left in the year though; I'd be surprised if several games don't surpass it on my list before the year is over.

Yeah, I've enjoyed most of the AC games. The combat here takes a bit of getting used to, but it is good. Stealth stuff is good as always. Game is gorgeous.

Unironically it's AI Limit so far. Enjoyed it from start to finish and am now achievement hunting and I can't say the same for Monster Hunter though I did have fun with it.

Granted, I've only bought and played those 2 games this year so there's not exactly a lot of competition.

I know it is technically game from last year, but it's MiSide for me. I loved that game. It was just so much fun to play through. I LOVED it.
But from the games on the list, it is definitely KCD2.
