Mine: I can't stand all FROM Software Games. I find them slow slog fest. I hate the art design and the games are just boring IMO.

Smash Bros Melee is probably the most complex game ever made.
 
I hate Final Fantasy XII. Some people really like it.
Actually I pretty much dislike every FF that came after X. But XII was the last one I played to completion. It was such a waste of time. I don't even care that much about the money, cause I payed full price on it. But it ate over a hundred hours of my life. That's what really stings. The game sucks, from beginning to end.
 
2 of the 5 best video games of all time were created by one director: not miyamoto, or meier, or wright, or sakaguchi, or kojima, or mikami, or suzuki, or carmack, or garriott. they were created by fumito ueda: ico & shadow of the colossus...
 
Mario will survive being middling and proclaimed as great based on prior reputation. Mario Odyssey is middling and was proclaimed to be great (97% metacritic), but the game is such a step back from Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 which are utter masterpieces.
 
Going by most of the conversations here, my unpopular opinion is that gaming is in a pretty great state and there's more good-to-great games to play than ever.


I'm having a blast with my hobby and I don't have a ton of major complaints about the state of things right now.

I was about to write something similar, I agree with you
 
Musou games are super fun but we need more of them (collabs like Final Fantasy Warriors, Fist of the North Star 3, Pokemon Warriors, Dragonball Warriors,...)

Never played through Colossus, but Ico is absolutely one of the very best games ever made.

I can see how you would find Odyssey underwhelming compared to both Galaxy games. However, in the years between those 2 games, was there a better 3D platformer than Odyssey? Excluding Super Mario 3D World.

That's one of the things I'm looking forward to about the Switch 2. A wacky Warriors of a franchise I didn't expect.

Mario Odyssey is the second most overrated game of all time: way too many moons, to loose in terms of design, easy af.

Galaxy 1 and 2 were masterpieces. Each level has its own theme and was masterfuly designed. Soundtrack is godlike

Now, the most overrated game of all time: Breath of the Wild. It's an 8, but sitting on a 97 MC score (just ridiculous)

The physics system is indeed very awesome, but everything else is barebones.
  • Map is huge, but devoided of cities or meaningful point of interest.
  • Exploration rewards you with korok seeds or ... nothing at all
  • Story is barelly there, and told in a very anemic way
  • Dungeons are the worst in the whole franchise (and so are their bosses)
  • Traversal is slow and boring af.
  • Breakable weapons is irritating
  • Ubisoft towers everywhere, but since its Nintendo doing it, its now revolutionary
Then the sequel comes out, fixing some of the points stated above, proving the first game was overrated af and very flawed, not deserving of being 3 points away from a 100 perfect MC score
 
As far as other people's reactions went:

Sekiro is among the worst modern From Software games. Still good, but nowhere as much as people like saying it is.

I have many.

Most common is 30fps >>>> 60fps. Always
 
I assume my most controversial opinion is that Spider-Man 2 is a terribly designed game with nearly no redeeming qualities.

I think Naughty Dog has been carried by games as an entertainment medium. They're really good at crafting stories, developing characters and presentation. Besides The Last of Us 2, their actual gameplay has ranged from average to bad.
 
Maybe I can think of a better answer later but I like Streets of Rage 3 netter than 2. I like using Zan more than Skate or Max, I think the range of moves is better, the bosses and the music are all better in 3 in my opinion.
 
You will experience much more fun and happiness with this hobby if you simply go search for games you're interested in and play what you want, rather than worry day by day looking for gaming news, controversial figures, or social media posts that will just upset you anyway.

Also, there are good phone/mobile games but you have to go and find them or use curated services like Apple Arcade.
 
GTA IV/V are just okay games with wonky Controls, middling shooting mechanics and driving physics. The Critical acclaim is caried by it's Open World possibilities and Pre-Release Hype. Actually playing them is way less fun than the reviews let you think
