Zero Time Dilemma (Zero Escape 3) featured in Famitsu

I'm actually a little disappointed that it's gonna be more cinematic and lose narration. I hope they can still keep the text beeping and put some static images here and there. I find it weirdly charming even though being more like a film can convey so much more.

999's wasn't interesting. They all had the exact twists you would expect
Akane being Zero is so obvious that I don't even tag it as a spoiler anywhere besides here
. Anyway, I forgot about the
Left clone
, so that's like... 4.5 returning characters. A little better. I don't see how people don't see Junpei as an edgelord emo kid, though. It's ancedotal, but all the people I know that dress like that fall in that category. And if he is f'd up because of 999
then why doesn't he show it in VLR? Tenmyouji is kinda jovial whenever anything isn't happening to Quark.

Okay last reply because if you don't find 999 interesting this is like arguing on two different levels, our opinions on the topic are just too different. That and the fact you're kind of blatantly ignoring major plot points of 999/VLR to support your generalizations.

1) Zero being
Akane____
isn't obvious to most people and it's not even the twist to 999, the twist is
the two screens and the ridiculous implications of the two screens.
You can go into 999 knowing the twist you described and still be blindsided.
2) Junpei's still not an edgelord by any standards, and
hes not angry in VLR because he's spent his whole life looking for Akane- he's in this game under a parallel universe to the one in VLR, since in VLR he didn't get to play this game. Regardless, just because someone was edgey when they were 20 doesn't mean they are when they're really old, unless you want to find your friends who were 'emo' when they were 14 and then inform them that they don't develop as humans at all.

Got so excited with all the news this morning that I wanted to throw together a remix of Chill and Rigor. Was heavily inspired by the fact that this game is much darker/grittier hence the sudden intensity in the second half.

God I'm so excited, I can't wait.

The volume of the base is much different than your remix. As a result, your edits stand out a lot more and don't mix too well. That said, your particular additions are amazing in and of themselves. I know you weren't "trying", but that said, really good mix overall.

Although I did rearrange everything from scratch I admit I got rather lazy when it came to managing all the individual levels of the mix, hah. Nonetheless, thanks a bunch man.

CQD was one of the original distress signals developed to be employed for marine purposes. The most notable thing about it in this context is that it's what Titanic sent out at one point, and the term appeared on the 4infinity website.

Thank you very much, I remember now.
If the group initials potentially spell that out, thats so damn clever.
I accidentally read
Q is a young boy so thats more weight to the Q = Quark theory

Time between 999 and ZTD for Junpei= 1 year

Time between 999 and VLR for Junpei=50+ years

It wouldn't really make much sense:
This takes place like 45 years before VLR, and Quark was like 12 in VLR. He wouldn't even be born yet.

Ah OK, that makes sense.
I dont understand how
Akane and Jumpy are at the test site? After 999 it said Junpei kept searching for her (basically), and by VLR he's basically spent his whole life looking, so doesnt that change the events of VLR? How did they meet up?

VLR stuff:
Junpei talks about he was involved at the test site but nothing has been said about Akane.

maybe it's a different person inside Akane, or an Akane from a different timeline aka not the one he's looking for?

Ok, so you're trying to write a twist for the game. Who's the first person you think of making the villain?
the love interest
. I just... I don't see how people didn't see that coming. VLR's twist took me completely by surprise, though. I felt dumb looking back through the clues.

Anyway, yeah, I know that I'm probably the only person in this thread that hates 999 and loves VLR. I'm just upset at the cast, but I'm sure the trailer will be hype enough to help me get over it.

So, is the little boy
Quark? He is named Q, and K stood for Kyle / Kanny.

EDIT: already discussed above. That particular character could have powers we don't understand, though.

I admit I really didnt see
VLR's twist of you (the playable character) being Zero

@Bowlie: For some reason
I heard "This is not the Akane you're looking for" in my head *shot*
:p

True, however:
They have never pulled anything with making people exist physically that shouldn't exist yet. Unless there is some crazy explanation, I seriously doubt it is Quark.

Well, Uchikoshi did say that
akane and brother can move their body across timelines.
Who's to say that
quark can't do it too? Unless he is brother... Oh.

Quark is Left clone, Q is also Left clone? Just two different clones?

Quark talk:

And what about that sentence in the Q&A about Quark being someone's grandson?

He could be a third-generation clone though... WAIT.

The point is that Akane being Zero wasn't the twist. It's just another plot point leading up to the two-screen twist.

The narration was junk. One of the worst parts of 999 was reading through unneeded paragraphs of over-written prose describing things you were looking at. It's like they sometimes forgot it was a visual novel.

FWIW, a silly amount of people actually miss the twist, because
they think it only applies to one part of the game vs the entirety of it.

What? How do people miss that twist? It's the best part of 999! That moment when
the bottom screen starts saying "he knew because I knew" is mind blowing.

Even I think that twist is great. What do people think was the point of that if they miss it, then...?

They miss it for the reason I said in the post you quoted.
And they think it's the thing you originally said...the whole reason we countered your post.

Eh, that's completely fair.

So, is it just me, or do some people's torsos look abnormally long in the cast picture? Sigma's especially, compared to the full art we've already seen of him.

We all know she'll show up in the game at some point and noone will be surprised!

Oh I know she will...
Frozen in the treatment pod. Or Q is somehow her, and I would be okay with that.

Also I found that scan someone mentioned earlier in the thread that was a full body artwork of Phi. Not really anything new, but still pretty cool.

I'm glad to see that they don't have to pull any punches with this one. I'm really excited to see what this game holds.

Grouping Carlos together with Junpei and Akane is going to be so fucking beautiful.

You just know that Junpei is going to be a fucking cynical, jaded asshole in this game who's going to make Akane feel like shit at every turn while Carlos is the awkward bystander hoping to mend the situation.

And Junpei will still take a bullet for her in one of the bad endings.

You heard it here first friends.

I'm stuck with a real dilemma here
sorry
. I already have this game pre-ordered (Vita and 3DS), and I can't wait for it to come out... But I haven't really gotten anywhere in VLR yet. 999 was definitely one of my favorite games of 2014 (when I played it) so the hype is real for this one, but I just haven't had any time to get into VLR.

I have a pretty busy study schedule for my college classes so spending a real investment of brain power to solve puzzles in VLR leaves me mentally exhausted for my homework, and the time investment on top of that means that I can't really play this game unless I can focus all of my thoughts on it. 999 nearly screwed up my grades for the term that I played, since I was so absorbed by it.

Thankfully I'll have a few weeks (maybe just two) of break soon, so I hope I can get a significant chunk of VLR done in that time (in the first puzzle room, allied with Alice). Even if I can manage to crank the game out in that time, it'll still be tough to start avoiding discussion or media of ZTD.

I'm thinking of going on media blackout to avoid the trailer but I'm not sure I can manage, you know? What I can say is that this most recent batch of media really solidified the artistic direction and made me no longer worried about a 3D presentation looking flat like VLR. This looks much more like a proper 3D representation of the world of 999, so I'm excited for that. Excited that Junpei, Akane, Sigma and Phi are back!
I'm sure the first two will have some interesting interactions that've been a long time coming, can't wait for that, especially as someone who's only beaten 999 so far
.

The cinematic direction sounds like a really interesting change. Wonder how they'll pull it off.

One last thing is that I really hope they come up with a more usable Vita control scheme without the touchscreen. I guess changing it from a cursor would give away things, but the touchscreen controls are also just finicky regardless. If they could make it function more smoothly like other Vita games that use the touchscreen then I'd be fine. As it is in VLR, it can sometimes take a few tries to get an input done right.

Will they answer the question what happened to Akane's brother among all of the stuff going down over the years? Was he even involved with the events of VLR, I can't even remember? And why can't we have Snake rather than Clover yet again instead? Ah well.

The couple of weeks break you mentioned should be more than enough time. Granted, I was extremely hyped when it came out, but I think I plowed through VLR in about a week, maybe a little over.

Unless Clover is Q, Clover isn't here.

They said everything will be answered, so what happened to Aoi should fall under that too.

Yes, no, and snakes in too.

999 is a diet version of
Ever 17
but it's still fun and absolutely not predictable.

I called the major twist within the first minute of playing 999. ,,Oh I get it" as soon as
the 3rd person narration began on the lower screen
. But to be fair, a big part of that was probably the bad fanbase. Solely saying that a twist is coming is usually already harming any kind of story. But in the case of 999 it was even worse. The specific way people talked about the major spoiler and beating around the bush made it painfully obvious.
