Zuck: Meta will follow X’s lead, add community notes, simplify policies, prioritize free expression over censorship

Weeb Underling
what is hate speech? And what is a conspiracy theory?

I am saying this to be serious, if you ban something you have to define it.
Still don’t know why hate speech and conspiracy theories should have more of a Plattform.
Like Zuck says, this is a tradeoff. Freer speech means more things that are generally offensive or odious.

X has definitely got a lot of whackjobs saying some very nutty and awful things. But if the last few years have proved anything, censorship doesn't make it go away.

I guess everything’s game to keep the masses preoccupied with each other, instead of looking at the filthy rich sucking the world dry.
Wealth and power have always been and will always be disproportionately benefited by any given setup.

The follow x example..

That is also my experience, frankly I avoided twitter/x for years, and recently signed up in the last month because it is a pre-req for grok access (which is useful). I cant believe what is arriving for me in x, honestly it reminds me of the old cheap British newspapers like News of the World but more so
You won't believe what user sono did next. (1/10)

No one shall be brought before our LORD David Bowie without the true and secret knowledge of the Photoshop. For in that time, so shall He appear.
Pendulum swings one way, then swings the other way, and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.

I hope that one day we meet a stable, calibrated point in the middle. I don’t really give a shit about any of this in general, but the heated discussions and biases (in both directions) are so exhausting.

The extremes are where the money is, so no chance of that happening unfortunately. Can't earn lots of engagement from being sensible, nuanced or seeing the other person's point of view.

Zuck and his fellow social media billionaire bottom feeders (and yes boys, Musk is one of them) have created this world, and now we get to live in it.

You’re right, and that’s depressing to me. In a capitalistic society, the people on top have the strongest incentive to control a narrative. I’m not against capitalism, but I feel like society should be smarter about who we actively listen to.

I don’t care if you’re on the left or the right, people in power on both sides have incredibly divisive narratives that are so much more effective and potent in our age of digital connectivity and social media.

I’m just tired, man. I wanna keep my doors unlocked at night.

Man he savaged the Biden administration. I never thought the pendulum would start swinging back so soon and so switftly. Bezos also said he wants WaPo to be less biased, more balanced. Hopefully they can now focus on getting rid of all the illegal and amoral shit on Facebook instead of wasting time and resources on censoring anything that goes against "the message".

There is a ton of child exploitation shit on Meta, especially in the reels section. It gets reported and rejected on taking it down.

Look I’m not going to give lizard man Zuck props for this. It would have happened ages ago if he wasn’t a coward, and it’s only happening now because he’s a coward.
Yeah,he's Zuk-Fucked. I requested my information and killed that shit off like 4 years ago.

That you can reverse something you (and many others) considered to be part of human rights because the wind is blowing the other way. He could have worded it differently or just ignored mentioning it altogether.

I said something similar in the other thread about all the big virtue signalling advertisers suddenly returning to X.

The content moderators are going to be people in Texas now. 🤣

It’s like we’re entering a Renaissance.

Fuck Zuck, don't fall for his "I'm actually super based" antics. He never would've done this if Harris had won.

He's just realigning himself with the new status quo. Keep in mind he enforced censorship on an industrial scale for a decade.
I knew he was a grade A grifter when he asked president Xi to name his daughter. Good on him for getting in shape though

The funny part is, we've only had this heavy handed censorship for 8 to 10 years tops. More so 2016-2022. Before that, barely any or not nearly as much. I also noticed the past 2 years, especially last year, not a whole lot either, even on Meta platforms.

It only took less than 10 years out of 240+ years of this country, to make a segment lose their collective minds about returning to that form.

Which goes to show, it's not truly about what is said, but those who like to control and have power over others, are now having it slip through their fingers.

somehow they can make facebook and instagram even worse.

actually impressed.

edit: i mean by making it more like X. i'm all for freedom of speech but X is shit. I used Twitter from 2009 until last year.

will Facebook unban me now? If not then I don't care.

Social media in it's reactionary form does two things very well.

- It highlights the best of society
- It highlights the worst of society

Forums such as this are where more long form and nuanced middle of the road discussions could be had. When not engagement bait farming console wars of course 🤭

The idea of "fact-checking" on social media is so absurd that I really can't trust anybody who defends it.
Social media is just an extension of society nowadays and so it will be full of good and bad things that have to be dealt with on an individual level.
What's more, what we could observe in these past few years is that only a group of people were targeted. Fact-checking became a tool for the far-left to persecute everybody else.
There's really no perfect solution for online discourse, unless we start accepting censorship (as actually happened).

This speech made by Zuck is historic, imo. He even talks about what's happening in Brazil (where I live).

I hate to keep coming back to this, but the real story to me is how dumb he looks. He looks like a 40 year old man cosplaying as a teenager. This should not be normalized. It’s horrifying. I get that he’s always gone for the whole “I’m the CEO of one of the largest companies but also super casual and approachable” look. But this is a step too far. He looks like a complete tool.

I have honestly no idea what issues you guys have with Twitter, generally speaking. You're like the third to mention it in this thread alone. I've been a user since that time around as well and sure, Twitter got worse in some spaces (good luck getting support with anything), but content wise it's more or less the same within my entertainment bubbles.

Even the dreaded "For You" page shows me content that I'm 98% fine with. I don't know, maybe it's the same people who complain about YouTube recommendations? Like obviously, if you interact with a lot of dumb shit, the platform is going to feed you more dumb shit because apparently that's what you're willing to spend time with.

BTT: Glad to see this move by Zuck. I still won't use FB or IG in any meaningful way, but obviously it's good to see these kinda changes.

Same. For sports and fight announcements and general local traffic notifications and such, literally nothing has changed.

Instagram exists just to go look at free bikini pics of girls from work lol

This is US only, so far. EU is still censored.

A valid conspiracy theory that is factually inaccurate is that Covid might have leaked from the Wuhan lab in….oh fuck….

Ok. Let’s move on to hate speech. Thats much easier. Like for example posting hateful comments about Jussie Smollet casting doubt on the fact that he was violently attacked for being…..ah damn.

"US 'liberals' used censorship to push agenda" - yes.
"Conspiracy theories do not exist" - give me a break.

After Elon Muskov took over, I:

1) Get 3-5 "female" bot subscribers a day
2) See Ruzzian propaganda all day long

Totally by incident.

Pre Elena Muskov I was... banned. I don't even remember for what wrongnthink.

--------------------------

Dear Americans, is there any chance that you figure how to:

1) stop US "liberals" from censoring wrongthink
2) stop f*ckers like Putler and Xi influence western politics via social media

At least via US social media.

All sounds very sensible, surprised he didn't sugar coat the Californian fact checkers and moderators being too biased, can imagine that will get a lot of backlash due to being such a sweeping statement (despite us all knowing it's mostly accurate).

I didnt realize pizza gate and sand hook conspiracies were started by the far left.

This has been a wide issue affected a wide group of vulnerable people, and its disingenuous to deny that.

Just let people say whatever they want online. If people are calling for violence, then deal with it on an individual level. And if someone is dumb enough to post something super controversial on a public profile then it’s on them if their job fires them. This worked before and was never a major issue until everyone on all sides lost their minds during covid.

Part midlife crisis, part Elon bought Twitter and changed the game.

4 years ago Zuck followed what every social media platform was doing. Anyone the didn’t fall in line with approved language and opinions were silenced or banned. Now he’s distancing himself from that while rebuilding his image.

I don't understand this thought process... Tons of accounts of far right folks are still there saying whatever the eff they want ... Tons of maga groups and pages on there too ... Even some neo-nazi pages (like with swastikas and battle flags)...

So I don't get the "no approved language or they will be silenced" talk.

That's what I don't get. Maybe the russians think you're a more interesting target than me and leave me enjoying my korean teenage girl groups in peace on that platform.
Because you probably are conservative and at best don't give a flying F about Ukraine at best, root or Putler as your conservative stars at worse.

noclador is simply hidden by Mr Musk's X. And he is not alone.

Origianl XCom modding community was nuked by discord, for something-something out of the context by a some dude in the HUGE group. That sucks, to put it softly.

"Let anyone say whatever" is cool, but oppressive regimes like Ruzzia or China can manipulate the system to highlight whatever the F they want. Conservatives are OK with it at the moment, seeing them as allies against dems.

Which is utterly dumb.

I am for max freedom on social platforms, but at the same time it should be protected against Xi/Putler influence. (bot farms and what not)

I was banned on that other forum for not wishing McConnel death, as he is (was?) Ukraine supporter.
That is the level of tolerance exhibited by your brethren/sistrthen.

Intolerance towards wrongthink is an organic part of your "movement". Look into the mirror.

And as for why that happens: most of the arguments of your folks are dubious opinions at best, outright statistic manipulations at worst. Letting people freely criticize you would destroy your house of DEI cards.

Man you suck at assumptions.
You suck at accusations. (But where is the Ukraine war thread on this rather conservative forum? So many F*cks given that it drowned? Oh, how is that? Ew...)

X was shoveling me with ruzzist propaganda to a point I've simply quit, it became that bad.
To find people I've subscribed to (I had second account from wrongthink ban times) I had to enter exact twitter ID.

Ultiimately, I DO NOT CARE if it there is Musk's conscious blessing for this scheisse or it is just mordorians misusing the system. The results are pretty clear.

Why he went pro Putler, I don't know. But he did that openly.

And then interesting personas appeared on some photos (not like it changes anything anyhow).

Conservatives who think dems are bigger enemies than Ruzzia or China are pathetic.

Yes, there is. It's called objective truth. You can make a case that some subjects are more difficult to moderate than others, especially if they target emotions, culture or large societal changes e.g. trans or gender identity. However there is lots of other information that is not subject to an opinion e.g. global warming. This is not how life should be:

the dude your opinion GIF

There are opinions and there are facts. One should be clearly noted as one or the other. In case of blatant wrong opinion one should be called out and ridiculed - you have a right to an opinion, you don't have a right to not be called out for holding such opinion.

There is no need to tip toe about the subject - Zuck is a cuck trying to simply enrich himself by aligning with Trump.
