Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Boyes and House should lead every Sony presser. Shu can announce megatons.

Yup.
House should be the main figurehead like Jack. He can tell us how Sony is doing, and announcing a few megatons. This guy can speak Japanese for goodness sake. It is a win-win for Sony for House to be the figurehead for SCEA.
Then Adam can announce 3rd party games, and Shu on 1st/2nd party announcements.

Shawn Layden? Only when he learns to smile naturally, and be more charismatic.
It is funny how not having a charismatic person like Jack or Kaz can ruin a conference even if you show game, game, game.
Sony should have learned from MS's mistake with Don Mattrick at the stage.

At least Nintendo has always been about the games, and their games have always been actual games (not movies masquerading as games.)

I'm so close to buy a WiiU instead of PS4 this fall.

Well, I guess if you'll only play Nintendo games every once in awhile that's probably the best for you.

If you want any semblance of third party support, then I guess you'll be missing out. It's not like you'll see Destiny, Battlefield, AC, CoD, Far Cry, Dragon Age, Evolve, and Mortal Kombat, just to name a few you'll miss out in 2014.

The Order looks pretty and sounds nice, just like movies do. Had really no gameplay to show, though.

Needed more hit reactions, too.

They announced it. Pro column. What did you expect? 30 mins gameplay?

They announced it last year at the PS4 launch event on Spike. 7 months on and they still have nothing to show for it than what may or may not be a target render using ingame engine, lets not forget how the graphics were downgraded in Uncharted 3 from E3 to Final build.

happy we got a great showing from Sony because EA's conference after microsofts games games, and games conference was such a drag. Ubisofts conference was decent but nothing that blew my mind like the last 2 years. Sony's was very nicely paced and I was actually happy with the youtube announcement for uploading videos finally. I am actually interested in the ratchet movie and powers TV that plus members will be getting for free. I thought the media sections would bore me, but actually was overall happy with it. But hot damn at arkham night..........that game just OMG! Also LBP3 and Uncharted 4 really took me away. But sucks to know that I can cross off the last guardian as dead.....because its not coming back, unless they really are saving the likes of FFXV, KH3, and TLG for TGS.

I don't think it seemed darker than 3, unless you mean in terms of the ambient lighting? It could just be the impact of less Hennig, more Straley.
maybe not darker but at least far more depressing. the way they talk about one more score sounded like it they were agreeing to a suicide pact rather than looking forward to their final and greatest adventure. was more of a whimper when it should have been a bang.

Damned if they do, damned if they don't. Everybody wants to see gameplay, but they flip their shit when they see stuff that's kinda rough. Everybody wants a 30 minute demo, but they explode if the game is shown too many times before it releases. The sweet spot for when to reveal, how to reveal, and how much information to provide is a constantly moving target for the enthusiast crowd. I'd say just be happy we got anything.

After that conference I'm glad I got an xbox one this year.

The exclusive games are grabbing my attention more than the ps4.

It's like how it panned out last gen, xbox had the better start in terms of good exclusives but ps had them over the course of the console.

Never got GTAV so happy it's coming this fall, but with so many games I may wait to get it, I don't like the idea of paying full money for a remastered type game.

Lack of vita news was a let down.

Just would have been nice without the TV stuff wasting 10 minutes. :p

Would of been good to replace that 10 mins with TLG. 5 mins of explaining to us why a game was delayed for so long and why they kept torturing us for all these years with rumors of being the game cancelled and then still in development. Last 5 mins of gameplay and release date would of been good.

Just saying to you Sony...would of been good but..yeh

I may be remembering wrong but most of what I saw either had some form of gameplay demonstration, or the trailers themselves featured gameplay. I think too many of Sony's trailers were CGI which excites nobody as it means nothing. You might as well post concept art on a website, it looks really cool but the final game is usually nothing like it. I get that companies do that to build hype and show off what kind of vibe/tone they're going for, but it's not interesting to me personally.

Cons:
- Playstation TV, you would think a company would have learned after the bore fest of microsoft's 2013 conference.

Er? Do you know what the PlayStation TV is? Or are we thinking about different things here? Because a $99 PlayStation game streaming box seems like a pretty nice move for NA markets.

This conference is pretty much on par with MS'.
Only thing that got me excited (Sony-wise) was Vita TV and White PS4, Uncharted. Bloodborne was pretty meh. The webms did a much better job hyping me about that game.

No they announced AN Uncharted game last year. Not Uncharted 4. This was the first time WD actually got a confrimation.

7 months.. Do you know what most developers have in 7 months? You're acting like its a year and a half.

i didnt have much interest in watching the xbox presentation past the call of duty trailer, which is sort of dumbfounding to me.

anyway, sat through the whole Sony video, it wasn't nearly as terrible as people were saying, but i can see the low points of it.

i thought overall it was fine, it wasn't really ridiculously entertaining, but they had a good game offering and i like what i saw. i'll probably get a PS4 when Metal Gear Solid comes to pass, and i'll get ground zeroes. No Man's Sky seems alright, though i might just get that on PC instead.

The Order seems okay. LBP3 is cool that it has all the previous levels, but its really not a game for me. Destiny looks pretty cool. Uncharted will be great, obviously. I can play Last of Us on PS4, also. GTA V might be a PC buy, but i dont know if i want to buy it again. Maybe down the line when there's extra story stuff?

Thing is he had retired after 3 and did not want to get back in for Elena's sake.
The tone just lets you in that something bad has happened for him to take that last hunt.

I was expecting gameplay trailers for Last Guardian and Rime. All I got was CG trailers, generic shooters, zombie stuff. Things that I really dislike, presented between boring talking. I was only interested in No Man's Sky and LBP3. As a presentation, it was very boring imo.

Well, that's the trouble. You can't please everyone. A friend passing by called LittleBigPlanet "retarded" as I was watching the conference earlier.

You need to be better than him and realize that Sony is trying to cater to a broad variety of tastes and isn't doing this for you and you alone.

People are letting that bad bit taint their view of the whole thing.

Sony has to be able to put together a 30 second last guardian trailer and put it out there. Maybe they are saving it for TGS. They have to have some footage to show. Sony's mistake was not showing us anything from 2016. Microsoft showed 3 games from 2016 or later that people are hyped for now with cg trailers. Sony is still holding everything close. Also, where was stuff like the witness?

I think everyone on this forum will be happy only when the conference is just a stack of one trailer after another.. Seems like people finds other people talking boring..

Well damn it's going to be a glorious 2015, huh?

Cannot wait for MGS, Batman, Bloodborne, Kingdom Hearts, Uncharted 4, Witcher 3 but fuck me it's going to be one hell of a long wait.

Screw the early adopters I guess right...

Hey we always have indies right guys? :/

Last of Us and GTA V and Destiny will help fill the rest of the year I guess but damn am I disappointed that we don't have another AAA title to play this year. Dragon Age, AC, and Far Cry will also help don't get me wrong. And No Mans Sky does looks cool as an indie game, I will give it that.

That being said compared to MS, Sony blew the competition out of the water for my interests. Only exclusive I have any interest in is the Halo Collection and even that pales to the epic list of PS4 games above. Any multiplatform console game will be better on PS4 so that's really irrelevant for generating interest in the XB1. PS4 should be the dominating platform by a wide margin come the end of 2015.

Still sucks that the PS4 won't be a must have device until 2015 and that the transition from a mediocre/average library to a superb library isn't more gradual.

I think you maybe need some sleep or something ?

which isn't the sort of 'yeehaw video games!' note a conference should end on. it wasn't even like he was an honest cop with nothing left to lose. he just slowly gets up as this sad stuff plays in the background and he hobbles off into the forest. absolutely underwhelming.

i wonder if neil druckmann got his wish and killed off elena in the intervening years then. if so, there seems to be a pattern with him having fictional female characters murdered in his games.

I never said they started it 7 months ago, they probably started it as the Last of Us was winding down 12+ months ago if not before.

I wasn't expecting a complete game but more than a target render using their engine running on PS4, they were trying to use it as a drop the mike moment but it went off with a whimper just like most of the conference did instead of a bang.

With the possible exception of DA i don't give a damn for any of these games.

I lost respect for Adam because of that stunt.

He knew full well no one was clamoring for a fucking zombie game (Dead Island 2!?)
to the extent that folks have been asking about Shenmue, FFVII Remake, Crash,
Yakuza and a numerous Vita titles.

The think we're imbeciles.

Unfortunately you do come across as an imbecile by assuming that because YOU or some people here on GAF want something, that automatically means that the majority of people want the same thing...

The average gamer doesn't know what Shenmue or Yakuza are..were not alive when FFVII or Crash were made..and doesn't give a shit about the Vita...

Adam was speaking to the average gamer...

I think everyone on this forum will be happy only when the conference is just a stack of one trailer after another.. Seems like people finds other people talking boring..

Trailers for obscure games with cult followings that people assume anyone outside of 1% of gamers will actually like..

On a side note, the PS4 E3 app was complete garbage. They had me thinking it would be the best way to watch. Spike's stream surprisingly ended up being the best way to watch E3 all day (and it was the best stream I've ever seen of E3).

Yet they somehow know about Grim Fandango?

people dont like Tim Schaefer's games, you heard it here first, folks

also, the point of that segment was that they were "duped" into thinking that it was a real 10 year old girl requesting it. Double Fine games are very niche, so it fit in that segment. because things people ask for don't sell

Almost every Xbox One exclusive was GC/No gameplay trailer.

There was gameplay just for Sunset Overdrive (second time) and little from Halo 2 multiplayer (10 years old game).

Gameplay presentation was mostly on third party products. And time exclusive indies like Ori и Inside.

GCs in Sony's conference was also a lot in numbers, but the balance was better. And of course - Uncharted 4 and Bloodborne. Both in terms of 'hype' just killed every interesting announcement that MS made - Platinum games title included.

I hated the pace of Sony's conference, and I think Little Big Planet didn't warrant more than 5 minutes of coverage to announce additional characters. Live gameplay was a stupid waste of time on LBP considering how little they showed of Destiny actual gameplay.

The letters section was also poorly done.

I give Sony an A- for content.
I give them a D- for structure and pace.

Fricken can't believe they had such good content yet still came in behind Microsoft.

Who designs these shows for them?

Solid B overall. Really seemed like they had more to show but didn't. Both conferences were solid just no megatons. I'd give MS a B-, Halo will not continue to save you but damn Crackdown 3 in my veins now. Ubi gets a C+, EA an F+ because I don't wanna see a dev dairy.

Bullshit. Adam's shout-out to gaming forums/sites completely undermine your
assumption that his segment was aimed entirely at the average consumer.

Like another poster mentioned, Grim fucking Fandango?!

I don't know, it seems like a natural progression.

Sully is older, a little wiser, probably isn't too keen on seeing his protege, who seems to have something of a deathwish, throw his life away on yet another scheme. It's been a while since I played 3, but I'm vaguely reminiscent of the idea that Sully had a hint of regret sometimes about bringing Nate into this world (although he's glad Nate was in his life), and by the end of it he wanted Nate to settle down with Elena. He doesn't want Nate to repeat his mistakes. Meanwhile, I think Marlowe was right in UC3 when she said that inside Nate is still the same runaway, looking for glory to validate his existence. And not really being as mindful of what it takes to get that glory, as he should.

Again, this could be completely off as it's been a while.

Zombie games are popular and people love them. That's why they always do well. People exploded in my theater when Dead Island 2 came up. You guys should be more positive. It was refreshing watching this conference in the theater without all the negativity.

Bloodborne, and probably Let It Die

Neither one are confirmed as JRPG, I suppose there is a strong possibility Bloodborne is. I actually did not like what I saw of those two, they definitely crossed some sort of boundary in my head. Perhaps I'm just a baby, but Bloodborne made me avert my eyes due to the gore, and I didn't really have much of an opinion on Let It Die other than "that bat with all those nails sure looks like it would hurt".

Also how come noone is talking about Far Cry? Your friends can play with you for free even if they don't have the game on PS4. That's awesome.
