Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Reflecting on both conferences, I'm surprised at how indifferent I feel. Too many CG trailers, too many multiplatform games not selling the Xbox One to me, nor the PS4 to be honest which I already own. If it wasn't that I value Uncharted 4 over everything else shown* combined together, I would've simply said that both MS and Sony had wank shows. But now, Sony came ahead a liiiiittle bit (Bloodborne is swell and all that, though I feel it's a wild card still).

*Arkham Knight had the best gameplay demo by far.

This conference was an absolute home run from beginning to end. The only part that dragged was when The Penguin from Batman came out to talk about his new TV show that couldn't get a series order anywhere else.

Speaking of Powers does meant that Sony will only make the show available to US PS4 users while everyone else will have to go without presumably so Sony can sell it to foreign broadcasters to try and get some of their money back? Pfffft. Good job.

All in all it was great and the breadth of games shown firmly put what MS has to offer (guns, guns, the occasional sword and a never ending stream of drones) in the shade. The variety shown by Sony (some stuff appealed to me, some of it didn't) was seriously impressive.

A really great conference IMHO.

Pretty good conference, contentwise I think it was better than last year, LBP3 was a legit suprise and 2014 release date has me hyped.
The order's footage was too short, didn't really show much, hard to get a feel for the game.
No mans sky... wow.
Farcry4 looks legit
Bloodborne looks great, man, that atmosphere is amazing. Suprised no gameplay though. Guess they switched it out since part of it was leaked.
Uncharted 4. holy balls. saddens me that this is likely the last uncharted.

+ MKX
+ GTA V

I'm pretty sure the running gag is you acting like there's a carrot up your ass every time an announced game isn't 60fps.

Sure dude. Since we all know that 60FPS is hightech, invented just 30 years ago. It's crazy to expect it to be a standard at least for JnR - I mean, it's not like the best of these genre ran at 60. The genre defining ones are all 30FPS.

Wait a second...

Didn't the mods issue a warning about this kind of framerate whining?

I think it was in the forza horizon thread?

Flip them for me, found sonys a tad better than ms, a lot of games on show more surprises too.

They were both pretty similar.
I think which one you prefered is def just a preference thing since neither one had anything that was absolutely mind blowing.

I think both conferences were def negativity impacted by leaks or pre E3 showings. Project Beast would have been way better if it hadn't leaked as would have Master Chief collection, Platinum Games new IP, Phantom Dust and Crackdown which were all heavily rumoured.

Their presentation was lacking as usual, but I saw Far Cry 3 and Batman which is what I wanted out of this E3, and they both looked fucking amazing. This conference had more of what I wanted personally.

The problem with people like you is that your only argument comes down to "shut the fuck up, I don't like your opinion".

And if public forums like neogaf are supposed to also influence the decisions of game makers and press to a certain extent, how would it make sense to lock down people who critisise a "Triple A Jump'n Run" in 2014 for being 30FPS but on the other hand let people talk who value that decision. Both should be heard and their arguments for prefereing one over the other.

Why are people argueing with TheKayle? It is obvious he will never be impressed by what Sony shows.

Anyway this was the best conference so far, but that isnt saying much. Sony started hard and fast, then went into bore mode and closed hard. It really was the 'best' of both worlds, with the lowest lows and the highest highs of the 4 we saw today. Im really pumped of Bloodbourne and for UC4 but otherwise was sad we didnt get to see RIME, TLG or FF15 (even if they were obviously not gonna be shown). So ill give Sony 6/10.

Microsoft conference was so underwhelming after the hype that went into it. There were no megatons that people felt so sure were coming (I mean lol, KotOR, Fallout, ME4 etc. ). But it was saved by the Halo collection, which I believe is incredible value. Their conference had too much CGI, but it had variety, which is a good thing. Either way, it was much more underwhelming. So ill give MS 5/10.

Save us tomorrow Nintendo. If not, the wait to TGS begins!

I think it's more like 'oh look, Thrakier has posted. I already know what he's bitching about before I read his post'.

Bang on about the same shit for long enough and people get sick and tired of it.

Buy a Vita!

It slightly edged out the MS conference but barely. Both were pretty even and come down to what games you personally enjoy more. No lack of content though

Holy shit. Holy Shit.
That you of all people are accusing someone of that is nothing short of priceless.
Edit: I suggest we wrap this up quickly, unless we want to attract the attention of the mods.

I think Sony had slightly the better conference overall although most of the games i liked were the multiplatform games.
The Halo collection is still the game i want the most out of everything shown in both conferences.

I care overall more for the games at Sony's conf but I think the pacing at MS was much better.

If the games I care about didn't influence my I would say MS had the better press conference overall. But then you have all the CG stuff but is that so different from in-engine if your hardware is sufficiently powerful? Yeah it's probably a draw.

Edit: OH MY FUCK is no fucking thread safe from this 60vs30 fps garbage?

Hate that SONY can't manage a proper conference pacing. Content is there, but the overall presentation.. MS delivered games smoothly while SONY "oh, there is this, there is that.. something yeah, something there also..."

How so? I think it's pretty clear that people who prefer 60FPS do that with a good reason and give also technical proof of how it improves gameplay and playability. I did it and many others did as well. And in stark contrast to most 30FPS defenders and console only gamers, I do know both worlds very well.

Best of the conferences so far because of the gameplay and reveals shown (even if 3rd party).

Minus points for the TV stuff and the Powers thing overstaying its welcome.

Also that NeoGAF name drop wow.

The ball is now in Ninty's court now. Its kind of disappointing that the leaks have really hurt both MS and Sony's conferences this year. Imagine GAF if the Halo collection and Bloodbourne bombs we're dropped on the same day.

Wait, so what happened to the valve thing that was supposed to happen?

Half Life 3?

When have I ever said I don't prefer 60fps? I challenge you to find a post saying I prefer 30fps.

Yes, Sony and Channel 4 (UK) already have a deal in place as I understand it. They are talking to a major German broadcaster as well for a dubbed version. For Channel 4 it replaces The Tomorrow People.

I agree. The content was there, but the pacing was awful. And wow Sean does not have the charisma of Jack Tretton.

Massively disappointed. No new IP's or exclusives announced that looked even mildly interesting. All we saw was some new gameplay of games we already knew about. No news about future software updates (i.e. PS4 Download Queue Managment, MP3/CD PlayBack, 3D Blu Ray, improved interface)

I was really hoping to see a game that would be the equivalent of what Halo is for xbox, but once again, was left disappointed. Seems like the only exclusive so far I am interested in is The Order 1886.

Was nice to finally get a GTAV announcement for current gen but my overall feeling from this conference was hypes and hopes leading to disappointment after disappointment. IMO, Xbox have won me over this E3 (Although a Gears announcement would have been nice)

Seems like my PS4 will remain as a third party game console and my xbone will remain for those mouth watering exclusives

This is a good point people always forget. The next few days are going to be great for gameplay footage from tons of games. The show floor stuff is usually better than the conferences for me.

Edge magazine's E3 recap is what I look forward to, they always have a good pick through the games shown outside the conferences, and there's always some surprises in there for me.

The one thing disappointing about this thread though is the outcry against someone speaking or 'omg get off the stage and give me more games'. Sony never said their show was going to be games, games and games and nothing else. They had other stuff to show and obviously had things to say. Its the same every year and people are expecting it to change because ... they are leading?

I've never cared about The TLG Guardian but for some reason I was a bit disappointed that it wasn't there. Damn you GAF, getting me caught up in the hype.

I was really hoping for a firmware update announced for the summer with most of the missing options(friends playing your game etc.) and some new highly requested ones(PSN ID change, folders, DLNA). This has to be the biggest disappointment to me even though with 1.7 just released it was probably too early to expect anything. I guess I'll have to remember that Sony is an entertainment and consumer electronics company so they'll naturally want to spend time at these events crossing some streams. I still wish they would leave that stuff for the show floor and not the conferences though.

Good press conference. I hoped we'd see more new exclusives, but Bloodborne and Little Big Planet 3 are fair enough.

All the third party games they showed are quite exciting and I'm really happy that GTA V is finally *officially* coming to PS4.

The composition of their conference wasn’t the best. I mean, I wasn’t the only one who got scared that they’ll end the show with some TV crap, and boy oh boy would that’ve been a disaster. Don't show stuff like that towards the end, when everyone is tired already. And while they managed to redeem themselves with UC4, the lack of TLG is still a disappointment. I wonder how many of the letters Boyce received, contained a request for some info on Team ICO’s title.

The problem with people like you is that your only argument comes down to "shut the fuck up, I don't like your opinion".

It's not that for me, I see your name and it's like the anti-Fonz just walked on set to read off his single, token autocue statement.

No matter how smooth your framerate, anti_Fonzarelli, you'll always be mind-stutteringly tedious, heeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

The E3 conferences are a statement of intent for the next year or two for fans, as much as anything. I think if you aren't on board already you aren't going to be convinced by the press conference. Just look at the MS/Sony responses, they had pretty much the same mix of exclusives, CGI and multiplatforms as each other, but are getting wildly different 'grades', and one gets cussed while the other gets cheered - and vise versa.

Watch giant bomb guys reaction summed it up for me, it started slowly got better then fell off a cliff once the suit stood there for 30 mins and it never recovered

Ive never seen so few live gameplay session on satge

All the intersting stuff is not until 2015

Dunno. Thought it was okay. Batman and GTA looked good, but they don't necessarily sell Sony to me.

inFAMOUS DLC seemed interesting. I might nab it at the right price this year.

Little Big Planet 3 was the best part. That will be purchased.

No Man's Sky looked amazing but I wanted to see some more. I am definitely curious about it.

Uncharted was okay. A 30 second teaser usually doesn't do much for me.

It was an okay conference, not great but not terrible.

I'll probably pick up LBP and No Man's Sky and inFAMOUS DLC. GTA will need a price drop.

Very satisfied, better than Microsoft's on content side, way worse on pace.
Terrible debut for the new CEO, 20 minutes, if not more, wasted on topics gamers don't care about.
My personal best of the show is definitely Bloodborne.
Already excited for E3 2015, I expect there all the missing WWS.

Edit: SmokeyDave is on the right track.

So if you'd actually prefer LBP to be 60FPS, why would you get at me for pointing out that it would be a better Jump'n Run at 60FPS? Since you actually do know and notice the difference, I think that isn't something we need to discuss. It is clear how much the game mechanics would improve and make it more fun to play. So you are sharing basically my opinion but instead of a) just ignoring my remark or b) chime in on it and tell people that you also would've liked it to be 60 you try to bash my opinion by attacking me on a personal/user level: "Oh no it's you again, we know what you want to say, your opinion is worthlhess, don't post it." Except if I don't post it, it may just not exist. So I need to post it, to make my voice (and the voice of others who share that opinion) heard and to actually change something. Even if it's repetitive (what isn't on GAF?). I think that's a pretty easy concept of opinion sharing, so please understand. Thanks.

No uncharted gameplay left me on a real sour note.

Sony had more games I was interested in, but ms had the better conf. I feel like Sony was ready to bring out their PowerPoint slides.

All three companies should show a one-hour buzzreel with pop-up video style 'factoids', then all the execs can come on at the end with all their t-shirts and take a bow.

Then the internet should go to a live vote to see who wins. The losers have to rebadge all their consoles to their competitors, and show a 'Winners!' splash screen in boot-up for the rest of the year.

They probably deleted them all at the last minute after watching MS's CGI trailer special, and replaced them with that knocked-up Uncharted 4 movie clip.

The first half of the conference was fantastic
The second half of the conference was an utter borefest.

Shawn Hayden and Andrew House are terrible presenters.

Uncharted 4 looks mindblowing. Looks like the best game I have ever seen.
