Sony E3 2014 Conference Thread

Pros:
Uncharted 4 looks amazing
LBP3 was a nice surprise
Spent just the right time on indies
Will continue to have the best versions of most 3rd party games
White Destiny bundle (this will be huge for Sony)
They didn't overdo it with multiplats

Cons:
Someone needs to get that new CEO some speaking lessons... or better yet just bring back Jack
Not enough gameplay shown
Still no TLG?
Conference sloooooooowed down for about 20 minutes in the middle

For the most part pretty solid job. Saw more exclusives than I expected, and LBP 3 launching this year was a very nice surprise. That Destiny bundle was the smartest move of the show, it will keep Sony top dog in the US this holiday. A solid B effort.

It doesnt have a fucking thing to do with "the average gamer"

They ran a specific campaign asking what people what they wanted. Adam Boyes himself said that what was most requested was Yakuza and Shenmue.

If they're just going to ignore what people actually wanted and instead guess at what some random people want anyway they shouldnt have run the campaign at all. Or at the very fucking least dont bullshit that it's what we asked for

You act like they can make anything happen just by snapping their fingers.
That's just not how it works. These things take time and a fuckton of risks and money.

I think i enjoyed that conference more IF a certain Kingdom Hearts game was there. To those thinking TLG was coming out: Good things come to those who wait.
i was never excited for TLG btw.

I think Sony had the best Surprises out of everyone at E3. Like LBP3 And Grim Fandango? I didn't see that coming holy shit.As for the presenters themselves: Mr. Layden is okay,i need time to warm up to him. He's no Jack but he did fine IMO . Uncharted looks Awesome, I'm hoping this is the Conclusion to the franchise and i'm gonna guess no one will die..again. BloodBorne looks freaking great. That White PS4 looks cool I hope they release it without Destiny though.

Overall i think Sony was a pretty decent conference.

B++. You don't get an A until KH3 game play is on your stage and a Certain Legend of Dragoon coming back.

Sony definitely convinced me to buy another PS4 soon. The Order looked good and I'm not gonna miss Uncharted. MS had a safe show but I really didn't see anything to push me over the edge to buy a XB1. Guess I'll get a PS4 in early 2015 when the big games start coming in.

I am assuming you made a Japanese account and DL'd the Yakuza demo? I did, and I can say it is underwhelming and maybe about 50% as good as the hype people give it. The game play feels dated, the combat is way to arcade like for the setting, the city design/npc design are PS2 generation grade. Sorry but the game is not worth the money to port and will only flop here due to its sub par quality. It is not worth the discouragement of possibly A+ grade games from getting brought over.

I'd give them a B. Nothing mind blowing other than Uncharted's graphical fidelity. But, there were a lot of games that I want to play and getting some exclusive content in those games is always good.

I really enjoyed most of it. It started with games, games, games which Sony brought by the dozens and there was some nice surprises in there like LBP3 which came from nowhere and Grim Fandango remaster. At that point they kept talking to a minimum and just showed some really cool stuff. Adam Boyes also brought it and he's a great presenter that brought fun and lightheartedness to the proceeding. You can tell he's passionate and that comes across really genuine. Shu making an appearance was also cool.

It did drag once Shawn got on stage but I found the guy likeable and should be a good speaker replacement for Jack. He just got lumbered with having to talk a lot about not that great things. The Powers thing went on too long and maybe should have not had a presentation, certainly not for as long.

It also ended nicely with some cool trailers and ending with Uncharted which looked stunning. All in all, it was pretty jam packed with content and games, which perhaps could have been shortened by 30 mins to make it tighter and better paced. But the games on show you really couldn't argue with really. There's a heck of a lot Sony wanted to get in there and so much to look forward to in the future.

It was a shame a couple of the trailers were just CG like Bloodborne and DI2. There was a lack of a few things I wanted to see like details of a cool firmware update and several key games were missing I would have liked. Such as, of course, The Last Guardian making an appearance, especially after the IGN nonsense.Santa Monica's new game/God of War (looks like 2016 will be the earliest for this/these) and a couple of other 1st party studios. Japanese games were also little to nowhere to be seen, but of course this isn't unexpected anymore, but still completely devoid.

I'll give the conference an 8 overall. It had it's highs, some middle ground, but it was packed with lots of games to look forward to and some surprises which MS conference completely lacked. It had a lot more personality and the stage was fantastic again.

Considering the amount of exclusives, timed or infinite, shown, both platforms were pretty much tied, so I don't get where the winner-loser debate comes from.

PS4
Uncharted 4
Bloodborne
The Order: 1886
LBP3
Let It Die
No Man's Sky
Entwined
Abzu
TLOU
Grim Fandango
Ratchet & Clank
Infamous DLC

XB1
Fable Legends
Scalebound
Sunset Overdrive
Forza Horizon 2
Project Spark
Crackdown 3
Phantom Dust
Ori & and the Blind Forest
Inside
Below
Halo Collection

Very solid conferences on both sides but I regret staying up for Sony. I wanted Bloodborne and Uncharted 4 gameplay and something, anything, on TLG.

The difference with Microsoft and Sony conferences is that you're watching Microsoft's conference and you keep looking at the clock and seeing how quick its going and how much time is zooming past fast, while you watch Sony's conference and it seems to go so slow, it never seems to end lol.
Like i said earlier, i just about prefered Sony's conference because of the multiplatform games they showed but i do prefer the way Microsoft just cram game after game into 90mins and it seems to go so fast.

Microsoft is so good at managing perception. "I know how we'll make people think we'll have more exclusives, we'll talk farther in the future and people will only pay attention to #s!"

What I see is 8 Sony exclusives vs. 6 Microsoft exclusives during the years both talked about.

Except its pure speculation on those '2016' Microsoft titles, nothing was said about 2016 at all, in fact Spencer said 2015 at the start of the segment that showed all those games.

Not that it matters anyway as there will be games in development for both consoles that we don't even know about.

Yeah, the pacing was really on point. Many things could have been left to after the conference like PS Now and trimmed it to 90 minutes. I would have seen Rime, but I guess it got delayed to 2016.
Also on the exclusive list, can we classify Inside as an XBO game? It will probably be a timed release. However yeah, there is no clear victory. Both studios announced around the same amount of games for their system. I prefer Sony, but I get how someone would say MS wins. However, no one has the right to bad mouth the conferences. The only reason I rank MS a 6 is because they did a terrible job keeping their line-up hidden compared to Sony.

I wonder if people would have rated either Microsoft's or Sony's conferences higher had it not been for leaks.
MS yes. Sony I thought only Beast got leaked?

Ntkrnl took the wind out of what would have been quite a few crowd pleasers and the Platinum game was known about, as was Bloodbourne for Sony.

The Phantom Pain trailer was quite cool, but circulated the night before apparently.

I dont know why you would ever think I would or should care what you thought of it.
I and many others wanted it, yes I played the demo, I STILL have the demo on my ps3 because I liked it. I've played and platinumed 3 and 4 and even Dead Souls so I dont know why you think you have any right to tell me what I should want.

Yesterday morning I was scouring the internet looking for good Xbox One deals. I already own the Wii U and PS4, but I was most excited for what MIcrosoft had to offer given the tremendous amount of hype and talk. I expected "bombs" to be dropping left and right, and Sony's silence worried me a little.

After last night I felt Sony easily had the better conference. Sure a lot of titles were multiplatform, and I guess these guys work this stuff out since there was no overlap between the two of them.

Bloodborne - Game of the show for me so far. Looked stunning, and I really can't wait to play it.

Destiny - Smart move on Sony's part with the bundle and very sexy white PS4. No doubt this is going to sell best on PS4. Access to the Alpha sounds nuts.

Uncharted 4 - Didn't think they could get me excited for another round, but they did. Job well done Naughty Dog.

Big Sky - Multiplatform? Looked very interesting.

GTA V - Multiplatform, but I've been eagerly waiting for this.

There's just so much in the works, and even so much hitting in the late summer/fall that I'm now questioning if I should bother getting the X1. There's more than enough on PS4 alone that I want, and I'm sure Wii U is going to add to that today.

What happened to Deep Down? No mention as a Free-to-play...

True, forgot that was free-to-play. Would have been a good time to drop it in confirming it would be localised. I suppose we'll see more of it at TGS, but I doubt we'ld get news of its localisation then? I'm confused about that game, especially because it's voiced in English and was initially revealed at the PS4 event.

I thought they gave shawn laymen a small role in all this since he is new. The guy seemed nervous up there and that's a pretty scary feeling.

I'm pretty sure most people asking for Yakuza have played more than a demo. There have been five Yakuza games released in the west and people know exactly what they want.

I didn't really understand all the dislike. I thought he presented fine, I'm assuming he wasn't the one who made the long-winded speech about PSN? If he did, then yeah, he's not great. But as a presenter, I'm sure he'll keep getting better if he retains his position for a long while.

I think he presented well, although it shows that this man is PR trained to perfection almost.

It's the stuff he had to talk about that made his bit kind of stale. If he was there announcing the actual games more he would have made a way better impression. I'd say it's not a bad showing for Layden at all. Some of his quips hit the mark and some didn't.

So, apparently this is a thing-

I got out of it what I wanted as I waited for GTA5 to come to PS4. Farcry actually interested me for the first time, never played one of their games.

I really wanted a new Hot Shots though.

I enjoyed Sony's show mostly. What pissed me off to no end was their absolutely shitty streaming that stopped. Had to fire my PC up just to stream IGN...

Yeah, MS had excellent pacing. They knew who their target audience was and what they wanted. Same could have been said about Sony until Layden walked on stage. In terms of games shown, I'd give it to Sony, despite MS' solid lineup none of them could match Bloodborne for me. In terms of the conferences in general, MS takes it.

Eh...No Mans Sky is not console exclusive, and neither is Grim Fandango. They are both timed.

I honestly doubt Grim Fandango will release on xbone. They will come to pc but stay on ps4 as a console exclusive.

Sony won the games at this years show but they lost E3 .

Putting in that Suit for 30 minutes completely killed the entire show. All of the great things shown earlier were just erased from my mind in an instant , I couldn't recall what I had seen prior to that but I was just left blank.

Anyone listening to that guy for 30 seconds would know that he should never be placed in front of people he had no emotions at all .

After that was a mixture of games and TV...TV..... Really....

Jack Tretton's absence was definitely felt this year.

Me and a group of friends were at the theater. This is what I noticed, or were my impressions:

Sonys opening was strong. The Destiny opening was the perfect choice.

Much better than the COD MS opening because with Destiny the conference felt fresh, was new ip, and set a tone from the beginning that felt it was looking more to the future.

Then they brought more new ip. It just set the tone that this was were you wanted to be for the future.

Really they rocked it more than MS IMHO.

Their were times that MS was rocking it like Sony, specifically Sunset overdrive and The Witcher.

And MS had a good conference. But many times it was good, not rocking it.

Sony was ROCKING IT.

There was a crescendo moment in No Mans Sky, the music was rocking, and people were into it. This game felt like it was inspiring. A high moment in the show.

And it didn't stop! It just kept coming, great game after great game.

The mid mark low were, Powers, and the Vita TV announcements. Not bad lows, just a break. It felt like the you get a free meal but you have to listen to the sales pitch, Powers and Vita TV were the sales pitch part.

But then desert with the ending with Last of Us and Uncharted. Honestly, in the theater we were at it was a GREAT conference.

They brought it. The jabs at MS were subtle, and were really placed as differentiators reminding people this was the most powerful console.

Also the news that GTA V you could transfer you 360 data to PS4 I thought was a play to keep moving those MS players to PS4. Well placed and very interesting.

All in all people saying both MS and Sony had an equal conference, it was not equal IMHO.

MS was a more of a strait line, with modest bumps, and some highs.

Sony line was climbing, many highs.

MS had a good solid conference.

Sony had a great awesome conference.

That's the difference.

Sony gave a good conference. It bordered on great. I was pleasantly surprised that Sony didn't waste too much time tooting their own horn, aside from some PSN statistics that no one cares about.

LBP3 releasing this fall is a highlight for me. I skipped LB2, so I'm excited to play the user created levels from that one.

Truth is, there was actually a lot of consumer-freindly announcements made at their conference. Things they didn't have to do, but did. LBP2 levels in LBP3, freinds can co-op in FarCry4 without owning the game, PS4/PS3/Vita cross-buy announcements, Infamous DLC is stand-alone...This is good.

No Mans Sky looks amazing, but I'm equally skeptical as amazed. I don't know how a small indie team is going to pull it off.

Overall, both MS and Sony gave good conferences. They focused on the games. Its hard to compare the two, but I can't help but feel that MS's stuff is so far away. Sony showed stuff that was available immediately, this fall, or 2015. The only games that seemed far off were Uncharted and Bloodborne, but I think we have already seen leaked gameplay of bloodborne.

Thats entirely subjective though. Sonys conference was bloated. Many of the so called highs were simply me thinking "gee this game sure will look nice on my pc" or merely thinking well i was going to pick up that game anyways for the ps4 even though its coming to x1 as well. Uc4 wasn't a high for me because we knew it was coming. Graphics also don't sell me anymore. It was merely a teaser trailer for some pretty visuals. So to me that was boring. At the end of sonys conference I realized. Theres nothing I really want to pick up for my ps4 this year that was announced where after the ms one I was thinking well there are some games coming out I'll get when i get my x1 later this year.

I REALLY enjoyed my first Sony Conference!

My highlights:

- Boyes shout out to GAF!
- White PS4 Destiny bundle - dayum that looks good! WANT!
- Entwined - good looking indie, will buy this week
- LBP3 - never played any of them but heard nice things, interesting family game
- Abzû - gimme Journey in the sea, anytime
- Remastered Grim Fandango - there's nothing else to say, this is incredible
- GTA V - looking great, will be a pleasure to replay it and dedicate more time to GTA:O
- Uncharted 4 - could have showed more, but it was there
- TLoU + release date - finally!
- Batman Arkham Knight - unbelievably good looking, I'm very excited
- No Man's Sky - game of the show to me, so far

They kinda dropped the ball in the middle with all the TV stuff, but apart from that it was the best conference so far, in my opinion.

No PR or update on PS4 numbers?

Sony waiting till NPD?

I though when the PS4 console slides came on in the background Sony were going to hit us with it, but it transcended in to some pretty dull waffle for a bit about 1B plus hours of whatever and 220m presses of a button.
