Twitch: Changes To Audio In VODS

Since I usually put anything good from my twitch over to youtube anyway I've been doing this for sometime. If it's something that may end up on youtube I mute my music.

What if a piece of copyrighted music goes over a 30 minute chunk? It says they will scan in 30 minuted chunks and mute the entire chunk if copyrighted music is found but what if the piece of music spans 2 chunks? Will they mute an entire hour?

Yes.

Believe me when I say that the entirety of the Twitch archive will have gotten a whole lot quieter by the end of the week.

Sure, the livestreaming will be unaffected. That may partly be due to technical issues, but I'll guarantee you that they're knowingly doing this, since it would effectively end the platform as we know it and that's what scares them. The false flags will be many, the time spent rectifying them will be beyond reason, but maybe, just maybe, a few more artists from Jamendo etc. will get some more recognition. So hey, it's not all bad!

By the way, they're doing this in thirty minute chunks because that's exactly how long a separate VOD chunk is that's saved across their CDN.

lol, just clicked on a stream tweeted by Cosmo and got this

fuck it, I'll move to hitbox, it's not like I have viewers anyway

So all my persona 3 FES, SMT : Nocturne streams will be muted?

So I guess the SS Twitan (My best attempt at making a pun between "Twitch" and "Titan") was on a return trip to England when she encountered Google Fog™ and hit a Content ID-berg....

If I was a streamer who only had a small following I'd be moving to hitbox so fucking fast. Easier to get spotted, and get there before everyone else moves.

I'm a small streamer, and this is what I think I'll be trying out over the next while. However, Twitch already has the market nailed, so it's just hoping that the masses move to Hitbox.

To me the problem isn't this. It's that it gives publishers of a game ability to say "We don't want our game streamed".

I actually agree, giving them that much control over how their game is presented after release sucks, but I'm also sympathetic to Twitch needing something to cover themselves when companies start banging on their door with copyright claims. This solution just burns everything though.

Partnered streamers won't leave Twitch over this, but if it ever starts to involve live streams then I think that would change minds.

Licensed music like in GTA games was always going to be an issue, so I really hope that's as far as the in-game music content matching goes.

Was always going to happen eventually, bought by Google/YouTube or otherwise.

People will move on to whichever site offers them most of the conveniences that they're used to, and eventually, the same thing will happen again to whatever site catches on.

Seems like if they can handle the load, it's about to get a whole lot more popular.

Yeah. I can interact with viewers instantly on hitbox now too. I hate that it lags for like 30 seconds in twitch now so the interaction is lost as a result.

Good thing for a few months at max.

Probably but at least I've secured myself over there, lol.

And what will you move to when that is forced to implement similar features?

Move on to the next one, of course! Gafbox in 2020?

"Man, I really like that song. Better find it in this 8 hour VOD and listen to it while this jergoff talks over it."

Said no one ever.

Where Google could be using this as an opportunity to increase discoverability and lead potential customers to purchases that they could generated revenue from, they're running the opposite direction.

Why not display advertising links to purchase the music? Google has their own music service now, so it seems silly. If they can match and identify audio, surely they could develop a platform to send customers to a purchase page if they so chose.

Absolutely bizarre. Leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Zelda seems to be one, according to the speedrun community.

This is gonna be fun.

Oh man, is this really true? I didn't think that a gaming stream service would actually resort to blocking game music or sounds. What a complete and utter disaster.

Prime example right fucking here and it's even worse here because adam_ak speedruns this game

Twitch really didn't think this through, did they?

Anyone got examples of a VOD with game music only and still muted?

edit: nvm, fallout 3 music. You know Nintendo will do it too, I've got several content IDs from them

Ok, now we can freely panic and send Twitch to hell.

Of course, we knew it was coming, sooner or later. Googly buyout wasn't the critical factor, once Twitch gained popularity, it was clear it was going to be threatened to be sued to hell by the music label. They always were in a grey legal limbo.
