I dont get it why a lof of Meogaf value Metacritic. I never but never look at MC.
This. It's sad that people place so much emphasis on reviews. Bloodborne always sounded great from previews and interviews. It's a shame people need a number for validation of a purchase.

Exactly. This is like hitting a homerun or scoring a TD in preseason. Sure, it makes you feel good, but it doesn't actually count. Talk to me when there's a good PS4 game that comes in a plastic box, is not a remaster, not also on PS3 and that is released between 11/17~12/27. Oh, Japanese games don't count either.

Lol what the hell?

Yeah, but at least people are sane this time.
Oh nobody ever bitches when a game reviews well. Its all peaches and cream and love.

Its just when a game they want to review well doesn't(or the reviews are only mediocre or somewhat good), then it gets ugly and suddenly reviews are bullshit, Metacritic should be ignored and lots of gaming journalists are accused of 'being a joke'. Its super predictable and convenient.

It is nice when there's a pretty positive concensus about a game, though. I've always felt that reviews more often than not do give a pretty good guide of what's good and what isn't. So to see Bloodborne get near universal praise is a fantastic sign.

15 hours in and I'm finding Bloodborne to be much, much harder. But admittedly, I've always been a magic user, and there's no such a thing in BB. ;_;

I never played any of the Souls game so i won't even though how hard it is compared to the others. Which I hope is a good thing :)

It really depends on the player and how you played the Souls games. If you're a shield and sword user, you will probably have a bit of a harder time.

I never really got good enough in either Souls game to be a user of a particular weapon. I preferred agility in Monster Hunter though.

I love the sound of the interconnected maps, the leveling and weapon systems, the in-depth combat, and general design, but I'm wary of the difficulty now. If the game is any harder than Dark Souls, I might as well not buy it, because I'm worried I literally wouldn't be able to play the game.

To be fair, its also more difficult if you were a magic user or a bow user. Only people who'll have a relatively painless transition are people who two handed big weapons and people who used a main hand weapon and a crossbow off-hand.

Apparently GTA V has a metacritic of 97 on next-gen.

Wat
I think they just dusted off their last gen reviews and went with it. No one was going to buy or pass over GTA5 based on anything they said. Heck, if I was tasked with reviewing the GTA5 remaster, I would just copy paste something nonsensical like "chocolate walrus!" a thousand times and cap it off with a 9.5. I doubt anyone would even notice.

Reviews are not the same as review scores It's an important distinction. 10 does not mean a game is flawless, 6 does not mean unplayable.

0/10, we were rushed.

There are plenty of other good reviews.

Aye :)

I think some may just be frustrated by the lack of reviews by the holy quintet of

IGN
Kotaku
Edge
Eurogamer (not giving scores anymore afaik)
(the fifth is GT, which is out)

I think the curiosity about how Polygon, Forbes (Kain) and Giant Bomb will review it is pretty high too.

At least Gametrailers (9.6), Destructoid (9), The Escapist (9) and Gamespot (9) are out.

edit: This being said, Jim's (10) was probably the most impactful, and his site paid the (blood echoes) price for that ;)

Well the sad thing is that metacritic seems to play a role in how much a game sells, really wish it wasn't that way, but that's how it goes.

Review scores are part of the review, though. Its the same deal either way. Many people pick and choose whether reviews/review scores are worth celebrating or bashing based on how much they wanted the game to review well in relation to how it actually does review. It is pretty undeniable and happens consistently and predictably.

This game is so freaking stressful to play lol. I never thought of myself as a defensive player, but I guess I was.
First Souls game, eh? :p

No, it's not! I just beat Dark Souls haha, that's what's so weird.

Who's doing the giantbomb review is it Jeff as I believe he's not a fan of the souls series, I don't particularly like his taste in games

It won't be Jeff. He dislikes these sort of games. Usually if you can get through a full Soul-type games, you're either dedicated or a fan.

And here people come and say that reviews don't matter.

Bloodborne Steelbook is sold out on Amazon and the standard version currently number 1 in the charts all of a sudden.

And all this for a game like Bloodborne. Crazy actually. Glad to see it's selling like hot cakes.

Ah, you mean you became too reliant on shields and shit before? Yea, I'm the same way. I think I'll probably require an adjustment period with Bloodborne. :)

I don't think its quite as reliable as all that. DriveClub and Destiny both seem to have sold well despite lacklustre reviews. And I'd guess The Order will have sold fairly decent, too. Hype and marketing can go a long way.

Sony put a lot of advertising on it, especially on big channels like ESPN, the fanbase was already really big and a lot of PS4 users are starving for a really good and big exclusive. It hit at exactly the right time.

I find Bloodborne pretty hard and I'm a Souls veteran. The
bonfire mob in Central Yharnam
is akin to the group of enemies near the Undead Parish boar in Dark Souls in terms of difficulty (probably harder), yet it's located much earlier in the game.

On the other hand, healing items are so plentiful I never worry about being worn down over time like I am in Dark Souls with the Estus flasks.

Y'know, if we're going to keep dancing this dance, it's time to name the names.

Ugh, got my Collector's Edition but I did not want it and thought it was cancelled. $115 total, just too much. Now I have to return it somehow, but maybe I can sell it, or keep it and sell my standard edition

I wanted to get it eventually, and Im hearing it's sold out, so maybe I should keep it if the price is going to be too high as it gets rarer

I love the design of that. Give you
plenty of enemies and health items to incentivise staying in the action and keeping it fast pace, but they do give you items like the pebbles if you want to take it slower and pull.
