Actually I think the reverse is happening

I'm genuinely curious why Bloodborne is getting such high praise - a metacritic score on par with Dark Souls. While I love the Dark Souls series, and they are some of the best games I've played, it just feels the same. The core mechanics are the same and overall it's just more Dark Souls, very little has changed. It's similar to people praising Call of Duty every year when very little has changed and they haven't really done anything differently until Advanced Warfare came out where it brought in a nice change of pace.
I just think there is a double standard going on where other games are shit on if they don't reinvent themselves, while we have Bloodborne that has had minimal changes since Demon Souls came out. I know some people will argue against, and tell me, "BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME THERE ARE SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS, LIKE GUNS!" To an extent sure, but if you deny this is a Dark Souls-esque clone, you are sadly mistaken.
Regardless, I'm going to play this game because I love the Dark Souls games, but it's just been bugging me.
The comment you quoted was about the other dude, stapleton
Actually I think the reverse is happening
It's going both ways I'm sure.
But the guy didn't write about the excessive violence in a review for a major outlet. He was trying to start a public dialogue about there being yet another beautiful video game world that we're only able to interact with through violence, a discussion that's been going on for years. I recall there being lots of similar criticism of Bioshock Infinite.
Regardless, yes, it's obvious the type of game Bloodborne is and it wouldn't be a Souls-successor without the violence. But he's not wrong about our industry pouring so much beautiful art into what are essentially killing floors.

He's not? I just went back and read the tweets. The comments hes getting are so terrible too.
he's been going back and forth with people since the embargo lifted. just loudly whining into the abyss. check his tweets and replies tab to see even more of it. it's comedy gold and i hope he keeps it up.

This is one of the few game where kill or be killed actually makes sense![]()

He specifically stated that he wanted reviews to consider the violence while review so I think that's a weird point to make. Also there are plenty of great games that have no violence in them at all, besides art reflects life, which can be extraordinarily cruel and violent.
You're talking more broadly about the industry in general. The same conversations are being had in the game industry as well. However, going into a movie review of a movie whose sole purpose for existing is violence and then saying it's gratuitous is silly; if that's the reviewers agenda the review could have been written without seeing the movie.
Games cant just be games anymore, there just have to be politics and shit included.....its to bad that people that cant separate films/games from reality are destroying for us that can.
This guy?

So how long to beat the game's main story? And is the game really difficult or pretty standard?

Are you new to Souls games? Because that will play a large role in how difficult it is as well as how long it is.
Meh his opinions are misguided but relax he's just one guy with an opinion, he's not destroying anything. He's not going to stop Dark Souls 3 or Bloodborne 2 or whatever from happening in future.Games cant just be games anymore, there just have to be politics and shit included.....its to bad that people that cant separate films/games from reality are destroying for us that can.
What an absolute idiot he is. Japan weirds you out? I mean seriously?

Call of Duty is primarily a multiplayer game. It needs to justify new purchases with significant gameplay changes.Unpopular opinion time.

Going all in now, even bringing gender into this.

Cupcakes and hugs/etc. are just what people think of as the extreme end of the spectrum away from violence, nothing to do with being a male.

Yeah i've never played them before as the dificulty kind of scared me. Did they at least tone it down a little here?

Of course it's ok not to like things, but he's legitimately having a meltdown over it. I hope he keeps going because it's fucking hilarious.
He probably could but in the end the IGN scale (where 8.9 is great and 9.0 is amazing) will be lost in translation across the Metacritic absorption. This guy Stapleton is IGN reviews Editor, right? how much weight he has on what IGN reviewers can score a game?, I mean, could his total dislike on Bloodborne create some conflict and affect the end review score on the game? He seems very obsessive over his dislike of the game.
He's a critic? Its a hugely zeitgeisty game? You're basically saying- shut up if you don't like this. I love this game, but its still interesting to hear different perspectives.
What an absolute idiot he is. Japan weirds you out? I mean seriously?
