Strangely I agree with you, yet Zero remains one of my favorite Macross entries.

Why does M7 have so much expanded material?
It's like a staple of the franchise. Probably why even though Firebomber is essentially Basara's group they still give Mylene her own signature songs and she's still an integral moment of the plot and group. Probably also why Basara is the only male idol of the franchise. Not to mention after M7 you got Frontier with Sheryl and Ranka and Delta has an entire waifu fleet...though Sheryl is better than all of Walkure combined.

To be fair, Sheryl is the best pop star in the franchise.

This explains many things. I'll be the first to admit M7 is flawed, but I can't hate the thing forever and in fact do have an appreciation for it. It's a fun series. Haters be damned. Is there a reason why all the weird sound force tech that Dr. Chiba is creating doesn't make an appearance in later shows? Or am I supposed to assume that Walkure is just a further evolution of Sound Force? So far that Sivil x Basara kiss was one of my favorite moments. Not to mention all of Max and Miillia's bullshit. I hope Millia jumps into a Valk again at some point, I love seeing her being a bad ass mom. If for the finale Max, Millia and Mylene are piloting and kicking ass I might just faint from the hype. I love how the Macross franchise does hype shit right.

Walkure is more or less a combination of the Sound Force technology of Chiba/Fire Bomber + The Fold Wave technology of the Vajra / Frontier + Sheryl's hologram transformations. The through line is pretty clear.

But then why doesn't Walkure dress like M. Bison? I guess the fact that I've watched this so out of order is why I couldn't connect the dots. That and I guess the fact that they're combatting two very different enemies with each series. So in theory Walkure would be able to control the Vajra and spritia beam repel a Protodevilin? Why isn't there an Exedore in Delta? Or is that green captain dude the same thing? Might also be my constant breaks from Delta. I've seen all of Frontier and M7 between seeing ep 1-6 of Delta.

Because Walkure has their own style that is different from Sheryl's. Specifically, Walkure seems to be more of an adaptation of Jamming Birds, from Macross 7. A tactical sound unit specifically created by the military (though I guess their still civilian and just contracted, in Delta). As to whether or not there are similarities between Sound Force / Sheryl/Ranka / Walkure, who knows. It all seems to be tied to some basic concepts (Spiritua/Fold Waves), so maybe they could have similar effects against the various "opponents" they've faced.
Exedore was just one of the holdovers from Macross to Macross 7. There is nothing specific that says they have to do stuff like that. Those two are just the two series that have any returning characters. In general, there is usually a decent gap in time between the various series on the scale of 10-30 years.

Can't wait to see what Sivil's development turns into though. I hope they explain why Sivil is a waifu and Grabil is a monster if they're both Protodevilin. I really do need to catch up with Delta. I need to see 7 at some point. I'm just trying not to rush it cause it's ongoing, but I was enjoying it. Does ep 8 have more Mirage?
When do the Jamming Birds appear then? I've only seen Sound Force. I like the series call backs though, makes the whole property seem like one big giant expanded universe. And Exedore is best used for comedic purposes since the guy barely does anything. Is there a timeline of Macross? How many years after Frontier is Delta? I'm kind of shocked nobody from that series is popping up in Delta and nobody is listening to any Sheryl Nome or Ranka music randomly like with Ozma and Fire Bomber.

Cool. I like how Dr. Chiba is always inventing some new insane shit. I'm not used to that in Macross, they seem to usually just stay constant and just work with what they have outside of some rare thing like the pin point barrier from SDF 1. I laughed my ass off with Sound Pod Gamma. The bass from that shit tore through Gepelnitches ship.

Why the hell do Max and Millia look so damn good in M7 if it's 35 years after the first show? Milla is gorgeous!!! I see no reason why Basara or Sheryl can't pop up in Delta or even Mylene for that matter. M7 and Delta are actually closer together than I thought.

I think Macross II holds up as a novelty but its by no means required. There are just elements of it that have bled over (like the bad guys using the power of song to achieve an effect like the Windermereans do).

So there's no idol in Macross 2 screaming "listen to my song!" I almost forgot about the windmereans having a little boy that stirs up the Var Syndrome in people, it's definitely different since the bad guys are usually driven insane or driven off by music itself. It's probably used to interesting effect then.
I still love Macross II since it is such a different take. Between the lead being a news reporter, the enemies also using song, past history ties between cultures. I liked it a lot.
I'm enjoying Delta more than Frontier. I liked Sheryl better, but the cast here is overall more enjoyable than Alto and Ranka.

Is Alto the Shinji Ikari of Macross? I didn't even hate the guy. I just found him too caught up in his own familial bullshit to be able to make a decision half the time. Dude's mom died when he was young and estranged from his dad, of course he's going to have issues. Everybody knows he likes Sheryl, even his dick knows, he's just too passive to admit it himself.

Man, I'm loving Freyja more with every episode. Messer seems fucked though, I hope he comes out fine.
Plus doesn't have Jpop. I don't think I've ever heard Gabriela Robin (Kanno) sing something pop.
Also, that was a great Delta episode. Valkyries and songs. And I still think Freyja is a secret princess.

I've confessed my love for Sharon Apple so many times...I think Plus' soundtrack is techno pop or something I definitely love it, I think The Borderline is new wave jazz or something, it reminds me of a Julee Cruise song.

I finished ep 34, Gigil really grew watching Basara sing to Sivil, now Gepilnitch wants her dead. How exactly is Sivil different from the other Protodevilin? Gepilnitch can get it, why is she so attractive?
