Not sure why people are down on this. Been a player since PS2 days and this looks fantastic. Glad I don't have to use the crappy 3DS controls to play Monster Hunter anymore even if it is a spin-off.

So... The console versions are already undercut by the promise of a PC version? Yeah, no point getting the PS4 version, Sony really should've had them promise to announce a PC version later.

PC version makes me worry about hacking. How secure have the previous PC MH titles been?

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
It will be interesting to see how this game sells compared to Switch's MHXX.

Really curious how they'll sell in Japan. I don't know if a 3DS up port will be as popular against this in the west. I'm am more curious about how this will sell in Japan even without comparing it to XX or other MH.

I think some of you need to be reminded of the Monster Hunter 4 reveal trailer lol

This was LEAGUES better than that.

Lol.

Yep, it's a reveal trailer, it's going to try to look cinematic and flashy. Wait for normal gameplay footage if them showing it like that scares you off.

At least it's coming out on a lot of systems, switch owners shouldn't feel too left out but it's time it moved past PSP/3DS origins.
Played the PSP version quite late after release and it did not hold up well at all. It's time they took it to the next level.

Tempted to fire up the WiiU version I barely played to get familiar with MH in preparation.

I'm not opposed to changes to the MH formula.

When MH4's announcement trailer was first shown off, I was cautiously optimistic: the larger environments, environmental destruction stuff, climbing, mounting, etc., all seemed like neat additions to the formula that could bring in more people. I was a bit disappointed that MH4U didn't fully flesh that stuff out, but I loved 4U enough that I really didn't care in the end, it felt like a fresh enough update over 3.

I'm not feeling World because A) Capcom's track record of modernizing franchises is very hit or miss, and this feels like a far more direct play in that direction B) the exact ways they highlighted those changes, for the most part, feel antithetical to what I love about the series. I don't mind more environmental destruction or even necessarily the seamless zone changes in theory (though I do worry about how that will be pulled off), but they lead off with stuff like stealth (which is not what I care about in MH at all, since I see it as a pure combat series where you kill or run past anything you don't want to fight anyway) and detective vision (again, I don't see MH as a "hunting" game in the slightest; that aspect is preparation in town, not being a stereotypical mystic tracker with all of the mystique stripped away and replaced with glowy bits). I don't especially care for the design of the new monster (it looks far too plain for my tastes, outside of the inflatable sac). I'm concerned about open world because I never got the sense that MH really wanted to be open world at all, that was something that people projected onto the series to rationalize this modern gaming series deliberately choosing segmented areas.

Good to have some sane people here. Now my Switch comment rubbed people the wrong way, but that was one of the only ways that I could rationalize the extreme downplaying of MH: World in the first response and a few subsequent ones.

The weapon and running animations appear to be just like Monster Hunter, and I assume that core gameplay loop is preserved. The word is obviously still out on game content, and all we can do is wait.

So you attempt to rationalize fan disagreements by assuming that it's not genuine, merely console warriors?

That's hardly fair, and there were definite differences you could pick up on that may paint your views one way or another. Such as the stealth or the glowy tracking.

If some people see things positively, others can certainly see it negatively.

Edit; How would you explain the post above mine based on your prior interpretations?

There is no way a console version of MH is gonna outsell the psp or 3ds games sales wise maybe in the west compared to the handheld ones but certainly not in Japan.

So yeah this is probably more western focussed for now luckily i own both a ps4 and Switch but i hold off on pre ordering because ya never know with capcom.

The series being at it's best in Asia on handheld doesn't necessarily allow it to have a such a blanket statement for other parts of the world. If commute and local coop doesn't apply to me, a console MH with proper online looks promising.

Pretty much how I feel. I'm not writing off the game yet. It could still be really good. But what they've shown so far isn't what I want from the franchise

I don't fully understand why there is an Xbox version , but Capcom will find a multi-million audience on PS4 with this game. If they can tap into the multiplayer-centric nature of ps4, include a photomode, have instanced multiplayer with really hardcore monster setups and a big ol' hub to show your gear to other players then theyll have enough hooks for a dedicated community-build up.

For the trailer: they focussed too much on all these alternative strategic elements, when all we want see is how the momentum-based combat translates over to this new vision. Poor bet, but if they nail it, they have a shot at blowing this Franchise wide open.

Turkey Rex is an awesome looking monster btw!

So here's my thoughts, I've never played Monster Hunter but I've played other hunting games.

So when I see them show stealth, traps and environmental effects, I'm super excited because it means there's a chance those elements would play an important role in the hunting of monsters, rather than just whacking them with a big stick in the butt for 30mins in an open arena.

Why people feared that they would cut the weapon variety? That actually doesn't translate into a more accessible game system

All 14 weapon types confirmed to be returning to MH World.

Well that's promising. If they are bringing back things like the Charge Blade and Hunting Horn then there's a chance this won't be a dumbed down mess.

Some of the weapons are quite complicated and they cut out almost all the MH2 weapon classes back in MH3.

I mean, that's the whole point of shaking things up isn't it? You don't know if an open world can't work until you try it. Yes it will change up how sharpening weapons and eating meat is because you can no longer zone out to safely avoid the monster. But that's why they're doing this. To see how they can adapt existing gameplay concepts to drastic changes.

I just view it in the same vein as smash bros. Those hardcore fans who just want final destination and no items can still do it. They're never gonna touch the fancy new modes and changes, but the core combat is still there for them.

There are no other hunting games worth a shit besides Monster Hunter. Soul Sacrifice is as close as it gets to actually having it's own identity and purpose and it's still stunningly mediocre.

This is why people get a little skittish about stuff like modernization and console-ization and the ilk; MH works great as it was and it already had a large, dedicated Western fanbase. I dont give a damn what console its on, especially considering I abhor the 3DS hardware and I've been playing it since the PS2 days when the media all said it was a trash game because it wasn't like PSO.

If it works, then great, more for everyone but man this was a so-so first showing at best. It came across as really lacking in energy, the aesthetic is so muted and it seems to be focusing on trendy western console fluff that I'm sick of seeing. I hope for the best, if it turns out well I'll get it on both PS4 Pro and PC but if it sucks and/or keeps us from getting XX I will throw a mild, private hissy fit.

Watching this again I'm actually getting really excited about this game. I'm really interested in seeing how this all comes together.

Looks crazy early but I am so glad MH no longer looks like a PS2 game...jeezus...took like 15 years

This! But even better than that, at least for me, is that now I can play with one of these:

This game pretty much eliminates any reason for me to get XX on switch. I'll get this instead

If combat is actually still the main sell of game
