No, not a good idea. They are much better off expanding the digital storefront game availability for backwards compat and selling you the games digitally, even if you own them on disc.

There was a thread a few months back about WiiU/ Wii games that have disc rot. I checked a few of my WiiU games, and sure enough there were pin holes all over. At this point, the games themselves will be too degrigated to warrant backwards compatibility

Nintendo seems to be pretty against the idea of dividing the portable and TV user base so much that I don't think you would have such a thing ever while they have a console derived from the Switch concept. Not being able to play a couple random games on Switch Lite? Gotta give it up. Having a whole game library attached to one of the modes? Hell no, that would mean people crying and booing the company.

That's as far as my observations go, btw, if they do it I won't have an issue since my Switch never leaves my TV.

It would increase the already ridiculous price of a piece of plastic and a small PCB board.
It would also make it waaaay more fragile.
No enough people wants WiiU backwards compatibility, the thing was a flop.
I'm guessing most people have moved on from their Wii collections now, you would be in a situation where the games would be acting as a key to download Switch2 versions of a Wii game.
Not something Nintendo would be willing to do from the goodness of their heart for a niche audience or risk increasing the price so much and jeopardizing having a decent launch price or cutting features for this.

What? Where are you keeping your discs? In a moldy basement or heated attic? If that is the case then sure. I buy used dvds, wii, gamecube, ps2, and ps1 games at antique/retro stores all the time. Also off ebay. Not one has what you are describing. I have yet to run into a game that didn't work (super scratched).

Hell the retro game store near me has a machine that can resurface disks. They charge a fee, but since I buy so much, they do offer it for free.
Wish I had one at home but those machines are at least $2k. Point is discs can be repaired.

Dumb because the architecture of the wii(u) is Powerpc and the switch is arm(same reason ps3 doesn't run on ps4/5). So Nintendo would either have to provide an emulator to run them or add extra hardware to the drive. Then they will have to find a way to add the functionality of the gamepad.
Finally Nintendo would rather just sell ports of games

I replay wii games all the time. They may have re-released wii-u games but htere is a ton of great wii games still stuck there:

2. Zelda Twighlight princess
3. Muramasa The Demon Blade
4. Little Kings Story
5. Punch out!!
6. Trauma Center Under the knife
7. Wii sports and resort (switch sports is crap compared to them)
8. Fire Emblem Raidant Dawn
9. Red Steel 2
10. Dead Space Extraction
11. Last Story
12. Monster Hunter tri

All great games on wii that aren't on switch. Yeah some don't like 480p but they look fine on a 1080p tv as long as you have an hd adapter or component hookup.

That being said, nintendo would never do that.
I am still concerned that the cartridge games will come over, as they will probably only do digital bc and people who have been buying carts will have a bunch of useless plastic for the next switch. Hope I am wrong and they use the same cart format.

In the cases within a temperature controlled room. It was the first time i heard of it, and sure enough they had pin holes. It's something to do with the plastic materials breaking down. I need to hook up my WiiU to make sure they work. Of course, the holes further on the inside might fail towards the end of the game

They sell usb docks with m.2 ssd enclosures. Seems good for using the storage for apps/games that you'd typically play on your big-screen tv. OTOH you'd have to be careful every time you dock/undock your system.

It'll never ever happen. I wouldn't mind it as something optional personally. Although I wouldn't buy it.

I wouldn't want to pay extra for the inclusion of a disc drive in the base package unless Nintendo plan on using discs as the media for Switch 2 games as well.
