ehhh I feel that inclination to just buy it because it's nintendo and seems mandatory. But really it's not.

Going to have to see what happens after this preorder delay.

I was super pumped but when I saw the prize I was super pissed and decided "no way".

It took about 24 hours before the FOMO set in and I sort of just accepted it. I know, I'm part of the problem. So now I'm pumped again.

Nintendo is the only console maker that values exclusive games and sticks to physical media.. At least for now. I've almost given up on Sony after the dreadful PS5 generation where they've done everything wrong. So. Guess I want to support them.

Given the seemingly huge difference in available power between docked and handheld mode relative to the first Switch, for me it's a far more interesting console hooked up to a TV than as a handheld this time.

Really awesome hardware

The problem is software. $90 for one game is just too much. Even worse when you imagine how low the budget is (or at least should be) to make a game like Mario Kart compared to other current gen games.
I doubt this will be an issue in actual reality. games suggested prices are just that. Plus Nintendo are going cheaper with digital so this will havve to put pressure on retailers selling physical copies.

I think the handheld bump to 1080p will make me play in handheld a little more than the original. Bit I am more of a docked player myself. I have an LG C series OLED and even the origianls 720p home screen looks decent on it. Can't wait to see the Switch 2 running on it.

I like the look of the hardware and I'm interested in some of the games but I haven't got a pre order and I'll see how real world impressions unfold.

I think the hardware looks awesome, and an across the board upgrade.

I think the games look awesome, and am really interested in Mario Kart and Donkey Kong.

So Nintendo has sold me on the Switch 2.

Issue: pricing. I can't make my peace with it. So the question is if I get it at launch or wait for a few months down the line. Either way, I do plan on getting it, so they sold me.

I was always planning on getting one, but the prices she saw right after the direct put me on the fence. Now that I know you can actually get the games at a decent price (at least in France) I pre-ordered it and DK.

it will most likely have better battery and kickstand
The kickstand seems competent at keeping the system from falling over, compared to the awful kickstand for Switch 1, but worse than the kickstand in the Switch OLED… it seems like intentional regression to segment the future Switch 2 OLED better.

There is no real news of the magnetic attachment for the new Joy-Cons but it is marketing genius to differentiate the logo animation and the console, to get people to see it as a new gen.

There are plenty of news I don't like about it, but I was never on the fence.

I'll be there for the first party stuff as always.
I appreciate you stating it directly, yet what could they do with a new generation for you not to be there? I am curious about that.

I was hyped and planned to get it ASAP after launch.

Then the costs were revealed and I lost my hype boner. The cost of the console isn't so bad, but the game prices are a serious turn off. So much so that I won't be buying the console.

It's a shame because it looks like a great system, but I can't justify those costs.

I think they'd have to screw up a generation in terms of first party output.

I buy their systems on the promise of amazing games in the franchises I love. If they have a generation where most things are really bad (like maybe Zelda/Mario etc. being Pokemon quality) and/or go in directions that I personally find bad/uninteresting (e.g. Zelda becoming a MMO/always-online mess or something), I'd skip the next.

So basically there is nothing as you buy a system before the games are out and you would buy the games to judge if they really screwed up and each generation is a new chance though or have you ever skipped a gen? Would you really skip it based on current software and not get it anyways with the promise that "they went back to their routes"?

I was always expecting around 450 gbp.

I got it for 430 with Mario kart world. Hardware looks amazing.

I'll worry about the games later as I know I'll find physical versions cheaper than advertised msrp and I have learnt I have no problem waiting for games to go on sale.

To add. I was always day one.

They'd always get me the first time based on past merits.

And I mean, if they screw up the software one gen, and pivot back the next, I'd buy it after those games had released and I know for sure they're back to being what I want/enjoy.

But I don't think it's that hard to judge before actually playing the games. If they do a reveal trailer for a new Zelda, it'll be obvious if the route they're taking is BotW/TotK or OOT/WW/TP. I think it'd be the same if they made it into something I don't like, say, an MMO.

95% of what I buy on their platforms is first party, so obviously I'm not interested if those games are not to my liking anymore.

I'm in Israel, so I expected to be more expensive anyway. Preordered one bundle as I'm a sucker for Nintendo. 2699 NIS, which is some 720 usd. Considering the 17% tax, conversion etc, it isn't terrible

Was always going to get it but changed my mind on a day 1 purchase. As much as I like Mario Kart it isn't a system seller for me. If Metroid were a launch title I'd have been all over it. Will ask Santa for one instead.

The hardware is good for a handheld but perhaps a bit overpriced ($399USD would've been sweet, but maybe that's not realistic). I want to play through Tears of the Kingdom with the upgrade and Metroid Prime 4 is a worthy upgrade over the Switch 1 version. I still haven't played through my copy of ARMS and I haven't played through Pokemon Scarlet so these games getting free upgrades is another incentive for me. So I'd like to buy one. I think it's going to have a lot of fantastic games which are much more pleasant to play now that it's got more power and modern features.

Hardware price is not an issue. Software prices, though, are ridiculously high, especially coming from Nintendo, as they rarely discount their games. It's greedy, as their games sell the highest and at high prices, so why this ridiculous move?

I will admit that if the loading times are as improved as I hope / expect both BotW and TotK would be a much welcome improvement on Switch 2 (resolution and framerate, in this order, being a nice bonus). Just a bit steep… £9 for this seems a bit much (but it is Nintendo).

It is disappointing they went with an old HDMI 2.0 chipset (no 4K@120 Hz so no 40 FPS mode at 4K :/.) and HDR wise those games would be really cool with it, but so wonder if HDR will be enabled per game or for the system container and if it were the latter what would they do if a game does not support HDR?

Will they support HGIG? Last thing I want and I would think that they would want their customers to do, given their target users, would be to adjust HDR settings per game… :/…

Wasn't going to buy one, mainly because of game prices, the hardware price in the UK is about what I expected. But a friend ordered two and is giving me one.

I'm also disappointed that it doesn't support HDMI 2.1 and that it won't be able to support 4k 120hz/40hz modes. It's a bad decision by Nintendo. I don't know if this means it can't do 40hz modes at all when docked or whether it can still do 1080p/1440p 40hz modes? If it can't do 40hz modes at all when docked then that is very disappointing. And some indie games could've run at 4k 120fps as well, like Hades 2. The console would've been pretty much complete feature wise if it supported HDMI 2.1.

Lack of innovations (a mouse...), predatory business practice (paid tutorial), 800$ CAD price after taxes, really ? I can get a certified refurbished PS5 and Series S for that price. I own every single Nintendo consoles, but I will pass on this one.

WTF? Sony behaviour compared to Nintendo looks like a NGO ready to save the world from poverty and injustices…

Considering the price increase and how old the HDMi 2.1 standard is this is a dick move by Nintendo to save pennies in profit margins…

why does everyone keep talking about cost?

I see new Nintendo games (Kart, Donkey, Prime) And best versions of classic games (BOTW, TOTK)

I dont give a shit about price - no other system gives me new Nintendo games. Even my 5080 pc wont give me Switch 2 games (at least until emulation heh..)

Trash gimmicks, c button/chat, mouse controls
Trash?
The mouse controls are the only positive aspect about Switch 2.

I am non-buynary unless a worthy successor to Sin & Punishment Star Successor that makes use of these mouse controls is released.

I buy things and barely use them- have a huge backlog of Switch original games to play.
I also don't like greedy companies or shenanigans.
So for now, I'll skip.

I was in a butchers in Huddersfield and I heard 4 people talking about how expensive lamb chops were, and that they'd probably buy the pork chops instead.

Love the hardware and find the price for it at the top end of what I would find acceptable.

I am a 3D Mario, 3D/2D Zelda man, I was one of the few people to not to own Mario Kart or Donkey Kong on the Wii U, so the launch seems tailor made against my tastes :pie_thinking: So this makes the increase in price of the games a bit tricky, rather than a must buy cause I know I will get the value out of them (3D Mario, 3D/2D Zelda, Pikmin, ect). it could be a bit of a gamble to get DK.

Also disappointed in the Kirby game, I was wanting something like Bowsers Fury for it. I wanted an improved main game plus a little meaty 1-2 hour expansion pack rather than remade levels.

I would have gotten FF7 remake for it but even that's not at launch and the rest are 3rd party game I would want I already own. Maybe Hitman if its released correctly, the PC released always confused me.

My one fear does seem to have come true, I was worried about the re release not having the value to warrant an increase in price and I don't think they have.

Eventually there will be Mario and Zelda games on it so I'll end up with one no matter what. I just don't feel strongly about getting one at launch. They made it really easy to take a step back and watch things unfold, especially doing the "soft launch" move where it gets launched again for Christmas with more games.

I went into April 2nd so hyped. I was 100% sure I was going to buy it and Nintendo ruined it. I love their games but they've been getting away with alot of bullshit lately and they really need to be checked. Right now I'm waiting for more news, answers, resolutions, and maybe some course corrections so I voted for "Still Deciding" but tbh the last few days I've been checking Steam for refurbished Steam Deck OLEDs.

For some reason Nintendo charging ~$10 for the World Tour demo pissed me off the most. It's arrogance. I just bought Cuphead, Ori Will of the Wisp, Balatro, and Dave the Diver for roughly $10 bucks a piece during the last Steam Sale. Hell, Sony gave us Astro's Playroom for free as a pack in and it introduced the gaming community to a new franchise whose follow up got numerous awards and GOTYs last year. But Nintendo feels the need to charge us for a tech demo.

At the end of the day, you do what you want with your money. Nintendo does make great games and if, to you, the software is worth getting nickled and dimed for the next 8 years, go for it. For me I'm considering a used steam deck oled, amazing Steam deals, and spending the rest of the money I saved buying the dip in the stock market. Maybe down the line things will change and I'll change my mind on the Switch 2. To all my GAF brothers picking it up, congratulations and I hope you enjoy it. To the individuals as irritated as me ...

Like in every case of new hardware, lets wait till we see the games, we saw some already which makes most hc nintendo fans buy/preorder it, and thats great, for more casual ppl more time/actual game reviews are required.
To understand what i mean i give u guys 2 vastly different scenarios:

First scenario-MKW gets 95/100 overall meta and is praised to hell and back, DKB gets over 90/100 meta with overwhelming praise too- and we get announcements of new zelda/proper 3d mainline mario with some teaser trailers/screenshots- hype is tru the roof, every1 is buying ofc.

2nd scenario tho:
MKW gets "only" 82/100 score with reviewers pointing out many flaws of the game left and right, DKB gets only 76meta with many reviews not even recommending it, no news of any new mario/zelda in sight- switch2 situation suddenly is way different.

Obviously we all hoping for 1st case, but cant say possibility of scenario no2 is close to 0, its definitely relatively unlikely but its there, so if some1 isnt 100% convinced nothing wrong with waiting a bit longer to make concious decision :)

Well reality will be somewhere in the middle.

The Swedish price took me from 100% sure I was going to buy one at launch to 90% sure I will not. If we had gotten the equivalent of the US or general EU price I would have been perfectly fine with it. But this is plain robbery.

I personally won't buy one at launch or the near future. The price of the system is fine, the games look great and I love Nintendo's IPs. Hell the Switch is one of my favourite libraries of all time.

I just don't wanna support a future with 80$/90$ games so for the time being, unless something changes about the game pricing, I'm on standby.

In the future, when the dust settles and things go one way or the other I'll get one for sure because I do want Metroid Prime 4,whatever the new Monolithsoft game will be,the next Zelda, next 3D Mario etc.

For now though, nah.Don't want to send Nintendo the wrong message.

I think the proposal is fine. I am picking the console day-one, I will most certainly not buy a single game-key card, same as I have never bought a code in a box.

I am getting it, but I went from being all in and getting accessories and Switch online, to getting the unit with Mario Kart, and only buying first party games. I then bought parts to build a Gamepass PC for my kids to play most games on it because even at 900 bucks, that is probably more cost effective when you don't count the 900 bucks, but at least that 900 bucks supports advanced tech like AMD CPUs and DDR5 and shit and keeps my old 3090 from collecting dust.

Really awesome hardware

The problem is software. $90 for one game is just too much. Even worse when you imagine how low the budget is (or at least should be) to make a game like Mario Kart compared to other current gen games.
Yeah, that's where I am roughly at as well. Switch 2 looks like a solid improvement over Switch 1, albeit overpriced. But I have yet to see a video game that is worth 90€. And as much as I like Mario Kart, it's not worth that either.

Can you not get someone to get you one and send it over?

I bought Switch 1 in December 2017 and was really disappointed when Nintendo launched the V2 in September 2019, with a battery two times bigger.

So, even before the direct, I planned to wait until the V2, this time. And for now, I don't see any reason to buy it yet.
