Destiny Bullet: Bungie devs were interested in single-player projects but leadership was firm on live service future

  • Something the journalist (Zuhaad Ali) heard last year when working on a story
  • Even smaller, less risky projects/ideas would get immediately shut down
  • Leadership was firmly set on live service as the studio's future

Feels like the rest of this generation we'll keep getting news pieces like this and ramifications of Sony's massive attempt at pushing into the live service segment in the early 2020's.

That's really fucking baffling. Seems like Bungie has become yet another one of those big name studios where management makes daft decisions and doesn't want to nurture/grow new IPs.

FFS, man. Set aside like 70 mil. to a small and nimble team and see what they can up with.

Honestly the original Halo trilogy nailed it in terms of having great campaigns with co op and robust multiplayer modes. What happened to this model of game? Phone games ruined regular games with their shitty business models bleeding over. Hermen aint getting out of bed unless your pitch includes a battle pass.

If Bungie fails more, what ends up happening is that PlayStation starts "owning" a larger percentage of their workforce, like their incubation projects

So don't rule out single player games from them in the future, but it would probably be if their live service content fails or disappoints

Pete Parsons still runs the show at Bungie. Have you seen his car collection lately?

Leadership is Pete Parsons, not Hermen, in this instance

This level of consistent astroturfing tells me one thing...

Halo is about to be announced on PS5 soon.

Pete Parsons has been on the record for a LONG time now that the studio isn't doing single player games. This isn't at all new, so why is it coming up now?

I remember shitting on them for this back then somewhere across the Internet, I'mma dig a bit and see if I can find some old quotes to make me look good, lol.

There's literally no other news pieces they can announce at this point, they've restructured or canned every live service project out there and reduced live service to Haven, Bungie, and parts of Guerilla

So nah, the worst is already behind us at this point

The beginning of their "shift" was Reach and I firmly believe it. The the skill gap reducing mechanics, progression, and FOMO design permeated that game in a more nascent form.

Bungie was driven to the ground by bad management. Even though the acquisition hasn't really paid off for Sony and their live service aspirations, Sony jumping in and starting to run Bungie like an actual business it is supposed to be may be the only thing that has managed to keep it afloat.

Seems like this is a a popular idiocy of the higher ups to think the GaaS route is a super easy work for a super easy cash, something I was already guessing at the time.
Burns tons money its more like it.

Translation: Bungie likes money and want to concentrate on what they do best and whats been successful for them for the last ten years. Shocker.

Gaf: But why not make a another game like from ten years ago that made you less money?

Those of us who were around for the original Halo trilogy are still here. We are in our 30s and 40s now and there has never been another game like Halo. We are starving for that slower, more methodical gameplay. All Bungie needs to do is go back to their glorious roots and Sony will have a juggernaut franchise for us millennial boomers.

I know it'll never happen though, unless the massive success of MCC on PS5/Switch 2 lights a fire under their asses.

It's simple. If Bungie never makes a single-player campaign again, I'll simply never play a Bungie game again.

Lol how come nobody is questioning the authenticity of this guy? Can anybody say anything on social media now and everyone believes them? Who the fuck is this guy?
