It's one reason I don't care about PC anymore (I still play PC but it's not like how it was 10 years ago). It's easily the most expensive option to game on now.
Why has the narrative switched from just buy a PC to a sudden attack on PC gaming?

They have, but here;'s the trick.
Don't buy 4k monitors and you can get by with a sub 400 gpu.
Shit you can get by with a 1070 on most games by just turning down a few settings.
I have a 3060ti and ryzen 3600 , i max everything out at 1080p, my monitors refresh. I have had the same card since 2021. No need to buy anything new.
People here are either wealthy , or live with their parents, don't have a wife/kids/bills/ and can justify 2k+ on a gpu alone.
a few years ago the most expensive gpus were $500 then the titan was a grand. The 20xx series started the bs pricing.

a 1070 will do for 1080p or lower a 3080+ is only needed for 4k. My 3060ti maxes all my games. My 2060 and 1060 before that for the time period using 1080p 60fps. Oh and 120-144fps is overkill, over hype for gpu makers and monitor companies.

Internet enthusiasts get mad about mid to high end hardware prices. Personally these days most games don't even look that bad on low settings. So in that sense to me someday integrated graphics will hit a point where that services the majority of PC gamers incredibly well. Like 5 years from now Strix Halo chips that are comparable to mobility 4060-4070 chips will be cheap entry level stuff where the PS5 and Switch 2 are baseline performance targets that PS6 enthusiast owners whine about holding games back

I'd enthusiastically go back to console gaming if it was guaranteed 60fps (120fps for FPS games) at 1440p/4k (upscaled or not) across ALL games. This is a pipe dream without proper developer tuning and good upscaling tech among other things. Until then, the only option is to stick with PC gaming and ludicrous price of hardware. I already have the troubleshooting knowledge, so it makes the decision easier.
PC fanboys used to pronounce that the game sales were so much better that it made up for the price difference between PC and console hardware. I think we are well past that unless you are buying absurd quantities of new AAA games each year. I could see why people would be frustrated by that (false) narrative being pushed at them.

Imagine if that ps5 pro was not a piece of shit upgrade, pc gaming would have been in big trouble. Sony lost out big time and pc gaming stumbles along the with overpriced gpus and poor ports.

The GPU market itself is the issue, it takes no time for prices to reach well above MSRP and the stock dries up.
Even now, the Intel Arc B580, a card that's meant to be the best mid-ranged card for it's price at the moment, shot up from $250 to $350+ due to the terrible GPU market and this keeps happening.
Even with AMD's promise of a stable stock of 9070s, I can only see the cards selling insanely above MSRP is a months time.
The only real options PC games with low funds have are to buy used parts or wait until AMD releases more APUs with the 8060S iGPU and save up until they can afford a graphics card.

As someone who has been wanting to switch to PC for a long time, prices are just insane at the moment.

I don't really see an attack on PC gaming other than people venting about GPU prices and scalpers buying up inventory.
I have been looking to build a new PC for gaming to retire my 10 year old laptop, and its frustating how overpriced PC components became since last time i build a gaming PC.
Because of my researches my youtube is filled with channels dedicated to PC hardware and ALL youtubers dedicated to PC hardware are not happy with the PC market. NONE of them are happy. Mostly because of the Nvidia shitshow.
Trying to spinf this as if its some kind of console war is peak retardation.

The 5090 is a perfectly good card for some AI tasks, but anything below that simply doesn't have enough VRAM to be all that useful for corporations. Sure you can run some AI models on a 5080, but the lack of VRAM is going to pose a problem for the more complicated ones, which require 48GB to multiple TBs of memory.
