I have another one, as a massive fan of Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty back in that 360 golden era from 2007-2012, I don't understand why Odyssey and Modern Warfare 2019 are so popular. Neither of them do any of the things that made the original titles so great in the first place.

My gripe about AC is pretty obvious, the actual story is an afterthought and the point of the original games has been long forgotten. But with Cod there tends to be a big overlap between people who loved MW2 and MW2019. These games are nothing alike.

I was there for both CoD6 and MW 2019. both were amazing because of the batshit chaotic nature and the simplicity of the maps. It was really fun to just hop in and see what shenanigans you'd get into. The neutered 2019 in about a year though and completely butchered it with Warzone/2.
Mw2 is still fun to play with buddies but online is filled with no life hackers now unfortunately.

1.) Goldeneye Wii was the best shooter on Wii, besting COD and Conduit. And the 360 port was a “TOP 3” COD game on the PS360.
2.) OG FFVII or Chrono Trigger are the two best things Square ever did. They still have not topped either!
3.) If the Mainline DQ games removed the name “Dragon Quest”, over half would only get a 7/10 at best!
4.) If you removed the name Metal Gear from Metal Gear Solid 5, it is at best a 7/10.

5.) Sony, Nintendo and MS all have strengths, and when they play to their strengths, those games turn out well.
A.) Sony makes good single player adventures
B.) Nintendo makes good sofa multiplayer games
C.) Xbox makes good online multiplayer games.

6.) Splatoon 1 is still the best Splatoon game. The tick rate on the first makes it a superior experience.
7.) Nintendo has mishandled Fire Emblem and it deserves its “FFVII” JRPG breakout moment.
8.) Paper Mario Origami King is actually a game about religious fanaticism and your partner is actually a “suicide bomber”.
9.) Nintendo needs EA to fully support Switch 2 with sports titles for the system to be have any chance of selling as much as Switch 1.

Every single point you said is true which is the reason why I had dropped CoD since 2019 and didn't come back till BO6, and have dropped that as well. SBMM ruins the game for anyone who's a regular and even slightly above average. I wouldn't recommend going back to it now but if you want to, my fave maps:

- Arklov
- Atlas market
- Docks
- Gulag showers
- Piccadilly

I was looking to try it last year when it was coming to xbox, then I saw the whole "Wuk Lamat" controversy and realized how much of a Resetera congregation ground the game was.

The outfits in that game are something else. The only people dressed remotely sensibly are Hardin and Guildenstern.

I believe the original Uncharted is the best in the series and that part 4 is an awful, bloated and overlong game.

I never saw the fascination in ANY of the Halo games although I did enjoy playing Halo 5!

Baldur's Gate 3 was fucking boring crap and that turn based bullshit can fuck right off.

I do admit that having a powerful gaming PC not only makes games look and run better than consoles, but I don't care. Spending thousands of dollars on a gaming PC to get extra frames and better resolution is a waste of money that would be better spent on a console, TV, games and extra controllers and a gaming seat to sit on (or a couch)! 60 frames is perfectly fine for gaming and upscaling games to look 4k is fine as well. People that tell you any different are just trying to justify spending thousands on a PC when the game played on a console is effectively no different.

The Switch is my least fav Nintendo console yet they still produce quality that keeps me in their ecosystem. They should have released Switch 2 about 2-3 years as the games (especially 3rd party) have completely dried up.

The Steam Deck is the best handheld gaming unit ever made. Yes it has less power than the newer gaming PC handhelds but overall it's an amazing unit.

Gaming peaked during the 360/PS3 era and it's been downhill ever since.

I hate woke crap in gaming (and in life in general) but I'm fairly certain the majority of these anti woke warriors have lost the plot and wouldn't know what they're fighting for anymore.

I miss when Nintendo was directly competing with Sega/Sony/Microsoft as they had powerful consoles that also innovated with graphics and gameplay as well.

From the moment Xbox 1st arrived I have preferred their eco system far more than that of Sony and even to this day, after they've given up on console exclusives and effectively gone 3rd party, I hope like hell their next console sells over 100 million units and that Microsoft go back to console gaming as I prefer Xbox over Playstation. Kills me to see how far Xbox has fallen and I LOATHE gamepass and that strategy.

I will give it another go. And like you I have a very decent PC, PS5 and I also have a Switch. Yet I still prefer the Series X. I'm an Xbox tragic who cannot stand what uncle Phil has turned them into.

New Mombasa has an awesome drizzly, jazzy, cyberpunk atmosphere that may draw you into the universe better if you're not really interested in the space marine alien planet aesthetic Halo is more known for. And if you enjoy the squad style narrative in that one check out Reach afterwards.

1. We need much more regulated digital marketplaces. It sucks for indie devs who just want to launch on a console, but the approval process needs to preserve the integrity of the marketplace first and foremost.

2. I think we may actually be slowly witnessing the "death" of video games, as we in the 80's and 90's knew them. "Fun" is becoming less and less of a motivating factor for major publishers, for a variety of factors (word-of-mouth marketing and rentals ensured that more content and more fun would always mean more money). And because of this, I don't think younger folks are developing the same kind of "love" that many of us had. Because of that, I think the industry will only grow more and more "corporate" (for lack of a better term), because the mass audience seems largely disinterested in games based on their content, but simply whether they're "popular".

3. I actually think diversity in main characters *is* a great thing; the problem is when they focus more on "ticking enough boxes" or "sending the right political message", instead of fully committing to making characters that feel fully realized. I got made fun of as a kid for having red hair, so I always looked for male characters who also had red hair; it may sound stupid, but having "cool" characters I could aspire to be like helped me get through some pretty intense insecurities. We *should* have characters of different ethnicities, orientations, the whole nine yards -- we just don't need *all* of that variety in *every* single game.

I'd put Half Life 2 on there for iterating on what Trespasser did and really bringing interactable physics to mainstream gaming. It also gave us Steam.

Also Braid brought on a deluge of puzzle platformers and ushered indie games into the limelight and Binding of Isaac kicked off the modern roguelite boom.
