When people say I can't tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps

The 3DS style of glasses-free stereographic screen is what every handheld console should be from now on -- a vastly superior approach to any 2D screen tech -- and we didn't get that future because a certain percentage of people can't see 3D properly and sadly dragged the rest of us down with them.

7.) Mario Odyssey while a more complete game, is not as GOOD OF a Game as Mario Galaxy.
Galaxy 1 is the greatest 3D Mario and it isn't close; also Galaxy 2 was a total disappointment and should be forgotten.

9.) GTA VI will NOT SELL AS WELL as GTA V, and it will bring about a collapse in AAA gaming.
God willing. GTA failing is an ideal scenario for me, taking down major publishers and AAA+ funding with it into a well-deserved collapse. Probably won't happen but I can dream.

1) woke arguments in gaming is over-represented and is just inflammatory. If you don’t like said game, don’t buy.

2) I have yet to see a game where RT drastically changed my experience. Raster lighting is still very good. Frames > RT.

3) Console gaming is entirely viable and enjoyable experience compared to PC. You don’t need a PC to get good frames and a good experience. Will it be the best 5090 experience? No… nor do you need it.

But this is true: if my character is on screen (3rd person game) then they aren't "me" in any way. I feel absolutely zero identification with the character in 3rd person games -- I've always instead seen them as a puppet on strings that I manipulate. I actually find it psychologically bizarre that anyone identifies with the toy in front of them instead of seeing them as an action figure you manipulate by remote control.

And in that sense, I'd much rather manipulate & control a hot female puppet on screen than a male one.

For me it's an extension of myself, in any world. That is why I simply don't enjoy it as much as a female character, sure even playing tomb raider or whatever I'll play but it still never feels quite right to me as I simply want to play an extension of myself.

Single player games if the main protag is female it's whatever but still not my preference. If it's an mmo type I always am male because it's how I want to be perceived. Just is how I roll.

I thought so also, but a lot of people (the sensitive types) cry about not getting everything these days.
Yeah it was going on back then. It wasn't as common for people to have both consoles so people had pick one and then shit on 'the other team'.

I bought both systems with summer hustle money( stacking shelves, grass cutting) so the whole 16 bit war thing was lost on me. I don't even recall strongly preferring one over the other, both got and still get tons of love from me.

So to add to this a bit I was thinking about another analogy to this and here's what I got and how I can equate to that a bit, so as a kid when I'd "control a puppet", meaning play with action figures...whether it's GI Joe or something I had lady Jane or any other female characters for collection purposes but I never used them. It was always about the big time main characters always.

Video games always felt like visual action figures to me, I want to be Indiana Jones I want to be Conan or Rambo or on and on... As a toxic masculine dude it is just ingrained In me. I love girls for all the other reasons lol I just have no true desire playing as one in games.

But at the end of the day it all is more or less character creation. Like for shadows releasing I'll most likely play Naoe more simply for the moveset.

I'm mostly this way with 1st person games (eg. playing Alyx again the other day... her female voice in my head is annoying lol, and I don't feel like I'm her at all, it's just like there's an other person messing around in my head).

But with most 3rd person games, yeah i'm the opposite and the character is just a toy to manipulate. More fun to manipulate virtual women, of course ; )

I think theres some truth to this. Game will probably have initial sales as big or bigger than GTAV, but on its lifetime it might not sell as much.

However, i think the real point of contention here is the online mode. I dont think VIs online mode catching on as Vs did is guaranteed. And yeah, just that would be enough to call the game a "failure", Rockstar is almost guaranteed counting on VI becoming another cash cow.

Here goes

-people who are fence sitters or who actively take a stance in the culture war aspect of gaming are alright. I can't stand, however, people who deny it's existence, or hyperbolize our arguments to the point of idiocy before discarding it, ignoring that it ties into a greater and more important argument about free speech and government/Big tech indoctrination.

-Super Smash Brothers Brawl is better than Melee.

-FPS obsessionists are weird, and the people (most visibly streamers) who make a big dramatic production and stop the game fifteen seconds after it launches to switch to performance mode because the notion of reduced FPS is so archaic and choppy as to be LITERALLY unplayable are even worse.

-People who support a title or studio solely for ideological reasons unconnected to the game and it's quality are slowly (but quite noticeably) eroding all the talent, and more importantly the SKILL of the studios, as well as any good will with the consumers.

-I hate multiplayer online GAAS season pass annual release microtransaction holiday themed special event bullshit and wish all the time, money and effort would go to single player games because I'm a misanthrope and hate all of you.

-Western RPGs have never, and by pattern prediction never will, surpass Japanese RPGs in terms of visual variety, good story telling, music, and gameplay. WRPGs probably have it for immersion, though.

-I thought Final Fantasy XIII was a fun game. Probably poor planning to put this right under the last one, but

-The Last of Us, Part II was a beautiful, visceral, fun experience, and I hate basically everything about it besides that.

Edit: more

-Going on from TLOU2, I think ND's main theme of the cycle of revenge was completely mishandled and overt, betraying any subtlety or nuance you might expect from a serious story. The fact that my favorite part of the game is blowing people in half with explosive arrows doesn't really drive home the theme like TLOU1 trying to convey love and surrogacy by having you slowly bond with Ellie over the narrative had accomplished. If I'm supposed to walk away saying "shit, violence for violence begets violence and I can't be a part of the problem!" then my gallery of screens of the best paint jobs I could make with my opponents innards probably implies some work needed to be done on a conceptual level.

-People who prattle on endlessly about how bad games with timers are (e.g. Majora's Mask, Lightning Returns, etc) are the reason all we get are $250 million third person shooters with walk and talk segments. Gaming needs innovation. It needs mainstream risks.

-I've always thought World of Warcraft was lame, even when it was good. My brain couldn't reconcile the terrible artstyle. Everything seemed Nickelodeon claymationesque, with some of the Horde shit carrying a taste of like Burton or something. It was someone took a badass design, and someone else was like "Cool, make the same thing, but with fetal alcohol syndrome,"

A friend lent me his 3DS over the summer when I was younger. The instant migraine I got with the 3D effect made me turn the function off completely and never touch it again.

Although I'm an advocate for gamers enjoying their gimmicks and whatnot, let's be real and accept that it was just a fad. It has since been replaced by VR.

Your first line kind of validates exactly what I said, ha. You had a migraine from it and couldn't perceive it properly, so you never got the effect that those with us with more 3D-capable eyes had. For us (and I've seen many echo this), it was a bigger leap than any screen technology to date; the advantage of stereo over flat screen is qualitatively greater than that between 480p and 4k+... a total transformation of the experience instead of a boring linear increase in density. And I never struggled for an instant to find the sweet spot or see the 3D, it was second nature.

So in line with my original statement: those who say it was "just a fad" are those who weren't capable of seeing it. Skill issue.

Correct, the rumor is the Online for GTA VI will be a separate purchase. I think GTA V was lighting in a bottle. If the rumor is true, I think it hurts GTA VI lifetime sales
1- What do you mean by 4. and 5.
2- 9. Very bold take. I don't think you realize how much the gaming population has grown between now and the last GTA installment.
3- 14. WHAT THE FUCK WHAT ARE YOU SMOKING
4- 16. ???? why? RE is beloved by most people right now, why would they pivot like that?
5- 18. I need to try phanntasy star, never played them myself.
6- 21. Thats just false. All gimmicks are just that; gimmicks. Even VR is a niche product even though it has seen tremendous success.
7- 22. Sounds very implausible, but hey with MS doing what they're doing they've permanently shaken up the status quo so who knows

I can only go by the old SFII era games when they were the rage, but I'd put Blanka up there as a top fighter though most people took Ken, Ryu, or Chun Li. These fighters were fan favs but predictable. I liked using Blanka with all his weird attacks and quick hoppy jumps. He also had a good long range strong punch.

I go both ways on this, but I imagine a new map alone will be enough to get people to migrate. It will be fascinating to see how it unfolds.

The biggest problem with these kinds of game is progression. I can only see it ever working if Rockstar allows players to migrate their online stuff from V to VI's

I don't see that happening. They'll probably give you some sort of bonus for playing V online but it's going to pull massive numbers initially regardless. Long term is a different story.

Nintendo's integrity in large part died with Iwata.
The Switch (aka Wii U remastered) generation is the single worst, most greedy, most corporate and creatively bankrupt console generation in Nintendo's history. Awful, awful default controller, horrible, slow store which is overrun with overpriced shit ports, fucking hentai games and shovelware galore. Their chode move to a subscription service model instead of a proper Virtual Console. The list goes on. Handheld mode blows chunks and is literally unplayable for any game that requires analog aim. The few true exclusive Switch games, as in, games that aren't remasters, ports, or ports of remasters, by and large suck. The two best games on Switch are Fast RMX and Metroid Prime Remastered.

Anyone paying for PS+ is a schmuck who's getting fleeced. $80+ tax USD yearly for cloud saves and permission to play online is laughable. Sony could make it $99.99 a year and tbh most of you would probably still pay it.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is the 2024 GOTY and is currently the most underappreciated game out right now.

So the 3D effect from the Nintendo 3DS is the Dark Souls of visual entertainment? Gotta bump up them eye gains to git gud xD

When people say I can't tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps
Bro not even lying I played multiple gaming clips of clear as the sun 30fps vs 60fps side by side for a friend and he couldn't tell the difference.

He also bought a 4K TV like 3 years ago, said he plays on 60fps with the PS5 and Series X, but when I visited him recently the TV itself what set to 30FPS. He thought I was joking.

Half Life, Doom were one of those games which never big or influential on gaming landscape (World Wide), it just benefited from clicking with USA teens who happen to work later at US gaming media which drives such notions to the masses.

Same thing can be said about the N64 and its absymal library.

Claiming Doom of all games was not influential isn't a hot take, it's just braindead.

Its a VR game. What did you expect? Most people don't have the space/time/money for using VR. I'd love to try it first myself at some point down the line but I'm in no hurry.

- Timed dialogue choices are stupid.

- Rumble/vibration/etc is gimicks for kids who grew up on consoles.

that's exactly what you're saying regarding people who can't see 60fps (which is very real), while not noticing this is precisely your situation with not being able to see 3D properly (also very real and sadly common defect).

And those who have accounts on resetera and come here to post the shit that goes overthere are súper cunts.
I just read up on the entire neoGAF/Reserera lore only a couple days ago, I'm a new user see.
I couldn't be happier that they parted ways and are gone now lol.
I checked Resetera just out of curiosity and you can sense the depressive copium cloud penetrating through the screen into your soul. Every one there walks/talks on eggshells and are trying to superficially outcompete each other in outrage/oppression olympics/virtue signaling. In every single thread you see fart sniffers reporting on each other and mods jerking off to their own power tripping ha.

This forum is much better; way less moderation. Everyone gets to have their say,, no matter how ridiculous, and for the most part people stay respectful because you gotta be able to take it if you dish it out.

I got more “hot takes” if you want them. It will not be a “safe space” though. I promise to treat you all with respect, but some of you will not like those takes. (Even if they happen to be true!)

I have another one, as a massive fan of Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty back in that 360 golden era from 2007-2012, I don't understand why Odyssey and Modern Warfare 2019 are so popular. Neither of them do any of the things that made the original titles so great in the first place.

My gripe about AC is pretty obvious, the actual story is an afterthought and the point of the original games has been long forgotten. But with Cod there tends to be a big overlap between people who loved MW2 and MW2019. These games are nothing alike.
