Assassin's Creed Shadows officially has surpassed the launches of AC Origins and AC Odyssey according to UbiSoft

So what do you infer from them specifying Origins and Odyssey but not Valhalla, that they just didn't feel like mentioning it?

The things is. Valhalla was huge. It was on every platform and pc wasn't it (apart from switch)

Isn't this just ps5, Xbox and pc. Xboz is in the toilet sales wise. So I don't get the fair comparison.

Youre not alone with that take. :messenger_winking:

Yeah I'm just tired of this shit. And of course the game is directly developed with those in mind so of course it change the game design...

And yet we have people defending this (see Mana), I swear I just don't understand. Maybe that's what we deserve after all.

As long as you’re doing castles, bandit camps, and contracts you always have enough resources for the hideout. I’ve never had an issue.
For now. The issue is starting to arise at 50%+ of the game.

I'll play it sometime later. From videos, the game looks amazing. I re-installed Valhalla for the umpteenth time, and it seems to have finally clicked with me. Will try and see how far it takes me, sometimes I'm in the mood for mindless open world bloat games.

I do in fact, stop assuming things.

Nah, at best it's the same as Valhalla and Odyssey which were already terrible. But no, I know it's even worse this time. And I don't need to explain, just open the store and look at all the bullshit.

This plus the fact that the game is designed to favorize those microtransactions is a no go for me. But hey if you are fine with it, good for you! I'm not trying to convince you, just telling my opinion that's it.

Edit: and the grind is still totally here! Idk what you saw but wait a bit until you need to upgrade your hideout...

Eh...I've already started upgrading my hideout and haven't thought twice about it. Seems fine. But yeah.....we can just disagree on this. All good.

There's a certain amount of smirk on my end. But we should at least meet in the middle and agree that there are stickies in every Ubi dev Discord about "logging on" yesterday.

If so, that's probably the case for every game launch at every game company. I really have no idea. I can get the smirk though.

Game is actually sick, the shop is godawful but its hidden in menus and shown as a pop up once in my 5 hours game time.

You played what? 20 hours maximum right? What I am saying is that this issue arise at about 50% of the game, and then it become worse and worse.

Hmm, not that much even. I'll table this until I get further in and maybe I'll have a better understanding of what you are saying.

Perhaps, but I think it still means 'worse than Valhalla' whether it's fair or not.

Is a ~Origins or ~Odyssey level of success going to cut it for Ubisoft? I'm not so sure. They might not even be at that level depending on how many 'players' have decided to rent it for $18 instead of buying it for $70.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

That it has surpassed Origins and Odyssey but not Valhalla yet?

What is the conspiracy you're trying to peddle here, lol.

I've seen people twatting about all the positive Steam reviews being paid Ubi staff too.

This is really hurting some folks on a greater capacity 🤭
It's what happens when one stakes their entire identity on wanting things to fail.

I will say the meltdowns are always fun to watch.

They don't need to make back all the losses in one big swoop, this isn't how a company turnaround works at all.

It's crazy how people try to find deeper meaning and conspiracies in a simple phrase like "This game has more players playing in the same timeframe as other 2 older games in the francize".

The person I replied to seemed to be implying it was not obviously correct to infer 'worse than Valhalla' from the announcement.

That's why people should use common sense and not treat Steam CCUs as the be-all and end-all metric for a game's success.

Been saying that for a lonnnggg ass time

Sony’s PC ports always had that CCU discussion and “worries” while in the meantime they made bank, year after year growth even pre Helldiver 2.

CCUs are GAAS retention metrics for the most part and only 1 store.

Until consoles open their books where we see their CCU, it’s all pretty much useless. You can definitely see “phenomenas” for big hitters but by all means doesn’t mean much for vast majority of releases.

turns out that antiwoke shit really is just a vocal minority at the end of it all and not many people actually cared.

that being said, I still hope the game fails. Fuck Ubisoft.

Clearly actually hasn't outsold those two games then or they'd specify. Ubi's subscription service might not be big but you'd have to imagine at least a few hundred thousand have accessed it there.

Let's wait and see before prematurely calling it a success or flop, otherwise you'll end up with another Veilguard situation.

Ideally what they need is to not be relying on AC to carry the company, but given that's where they seem to be, I don't think they can afford for it to do much worse than Valhalla let alone possibly worse than Origins/Odyssey (currently unknown).

I was on the fence about buying this until I was informed of the semi-obnoxious microtransactional element to the game (haven’t played one of these since AC2) then decided against it. Nothing turns me off from a game faster.
Yeah, I dont know how it is in Shadows...maybe they tuned it down (???)...but last AC I played was Odyssey and I never had enough ressources to keep my armor/weapon on par with my level. It was quite annoying.

Happy to be on the side of celebrating a success/good game rather than being such a sensitive ‘snowflake’ that hoping for it to fail is where I find my joy. That must be so depressing.

Haven’t bought this yet, but going to cave this weekend, I know it. Not just to play it, I want to be part of the number that makes them more upset.

Not impressed, but it's far better than Veilguard that reached 1.5M players in 2 months. On the other hand, Split Fiction and KCD2 did 2M in 2 weeks. Their budget was also a fraction of Shadow's.

Either consoles are doing the heavy lifting or Ubisoft Connect has a lot more players than on Steam. This would make sense because I have 3 friends on my list playing it on the Ubisoft Connect app. There's also a 20% discount if you have 100 units in the Ubisoft store.

Looks like the culture war nonsense over this game had no impact at all. It might have actually inspired some people to buy the game.

This is on track to be one of the most successful games this generation.

A common chud defeat here.

I watched a bit of the game because I know people are just gonna grab the most controversial snippets that I already know pisses me off.

I'm still not impressed by the game.

Why is there a battlepass for this game? Why can you buy actual gear...absolutely busted gear in a single player game. I would really like to know if the game feels like a player is pushed to these purchases because they designed the game in a way that encourages this. I know there's an option to purchase the full map unlocked. It's optional which is fine. I don't care if other people want to pay to not play the game they've purchased. But I'm getting Shadow of War vibes here and although that was a great game, the "end game" was ruined by this for me due to the design.

This is a plain wrong way to look at things imo.

Ubisoft didn't get into this mess overnight, and it will not get out of it overnight either.

A lot of the preorder discounts on GMG etc are for UbiConnect keys too.

It’s just a coincidence that the medieval knight is a transgender activist. We didn’t plan it that way—you’re the one obsessing over it.

Yeah I refuse to believe that these 2+ million players are essentially Ubisoft+ Connect players while the game is available on PS5, Xbox and Steam

There isn’t. There’s a rewards track that you unlock through in game quests.

That’s literally be in every AC game since Unity. More than 10 years.

It's no different than the previous games, and it's really not that "busted", all the perks are situational and you build for how you would like to play, reducing what you bought to pure cosmetic value (again, same as the previous games).
And if you're going to say "battlepass", you should also say that it's free, just so nobody gets the wrong idea.
What they did here also isn't different from the previous games, there you had weekly uplay challenges so you could get premium currency, which you could then spend on the premium gear vendor (basically all that "absolutely busted gear" you're so worried about), which always had a weekly and a daily rotation of items.
Now it's still that, weekly challenges, but they fill up the pass instead, and instead of just premium currency, there's also gear and lore in there.

Do you purchase access to this "reward track"? If so, then it's no different. If not, then I'm okay with that.

Does the game's design seem to push people to purchase microtransaction to the point that it seems overly grindy? I know that's a subjective take, just asking your opinion.

The anti woke mob is finally losing steam.

As someone who was pretty critical of the game when it was announced, i'm cheering on its success now because the mob seriously overplayed their hand with this one.

As soon as "no politics in games" dweebs started cheering on violence censorship, and for Japanese Jack Thompson types to step in over hurt feelings, they could go fuck themselves.

Absolute hypocrites.

Come on now, don't be silly. There's many games released in just the last 12 months bigger than this.

It seems to be doing well, worse than Valhalla, but well. Not the massive groundbreaking success Ubisoft needed to save them though, their stock has dropped another 7% today. These numbers aren't enough to ease concerns.
