About 300k AUD which is what the damages Karl is paying.
50K AUD is the actual fine for defamation.

Karl got 200k from the GoFundMe and some money from rich friends.
Karl said his legal defense is about 450K on GoFundMe.

Karl is personally out about 500K+ AUD
 
King of Kong is a legendary documentary. One of the best ever. Billy is basically half the movie. He has played up his "character" and it's honestly pretty funny in a pro wrestling kind of way. What the fuck has this YouTuber ever done? Made snarky videos about Billy? Screw this guy. Glad he lost.
 
I was always under the impression that this lawsuit was for defamation about Mitchell cheating, but it turns out the GoFundMe page was also deliberately vague.

[256] Mr White gave evidence of his own impressions of Mr Mitchell, which is irrelevant to the issues in this proceeding, but is relevant to my assessment of his evidence. He said that he first came across Mr Mitchell when he learned of a lawsuit taken by Mr Mitchell against a body called Cartoon Network. His impression was, "This is a very silly person here." After watching King of Kong, his impression was that Mr Mitchell was "a narcissist, a bully and just kind of an all-round bad guy."178 [257] Mr White produced and published a video called "He's A Cheater" after he learned that Mr Mitchell had settled his proceeding against Twin Galaxies.

A short extract from that video was tendered.179 Mr White agreed that, before he published that video, he had seen messages on Twitter from a few people suggesting that he apologise to Mr Mitchell given that settlement. In the extract he said, "This is my official response to all of you" and farted into the microphone. He continued: Billy Mitchell does not deserve an apology because Billy Mitchell is not innocent. You are letting him manipulate and lie to you as he has done for his entire career. I don't think he is even able to accidentally tell the truth about anything. … His whole core, being, his soul is entwined with his lies. But it is also obvious from his videos that, at least on videos, he is prepared to exaggerate statements he makes about Mr Mitchell. It is difficult to separate his own opinion of Mr Mitchell from any knowledge he might have about Mr Mitchell's reputation at various times. As with Mr Race, I cannot accept his evidence (to the extent that he purported to report on Mr Mitchell's reputation) without corroboration from reliable sources

Reading up on this, it's pretty clear Karl misled people in his video on what this was about. I find Karl to be pretty off putting and smug, but Billy Mitchell sucks so much more. Karl really fumbled the ball on this. Now Billy supporters (the very few he has left) will use this as vindication and spin the narrative that he didn't actually cheat.

I don't remember that at all either, I thought the whole defamation angle was from the cheating, and I don't ever recall Karl saying anything about the suit being about Apollo's suicide. I have liked a lot of Karl's videos (especially the shit surrounding WATA, fuck them btw) but I think his ego got the better of him and he thought he was untouchable, and got burned in the process. I am not sure how Karl felt he could continue to push the claim that Billy was responsible for Apollo's death if the suicide video never mentions Billy, and Billy never collected any money from him. Billy seems like an incredible piece of shit, but Karl was reaching really hard here.

In Billy's defense, he actually got the same Donkey Kong score he submitted in that MAME video live on Twitch and walked away from the cabinet with lives left. He also did a live perfect Pac Man game like 2 years ago in front of a crowd on Twitch. The guy is still really fucking good at arcade games.

So Karl is a lying snake and Billy is a clown cheater. They both deserve each other. I'm just glad I got entertainment out of this. What ever you may say the vids Karl made shitting on Billy are really worth a watch for a jolly time.

Agreed. Considering how the lawsuit was framed and that he took donations from the most loyal of his fanbase, I'd guess his channel viewership is going to suffer. I'd also be curious how much traffic was driven to his channel by the drama around this lawsuit and the Completionist saga and what the dips will be now that both are in the rear view mirror.

I've watched him on and off for a while and didn't even follow this lawsuit. I had no idea he was this deep into this, and now that he's lost this is going to be the fiest thing anyone thinks of regarding his channel. It's a devastating blow.

But in order to compete with other really, really good players, he chose to cheat.
 
I agree with the comments from earlier; my understanding was the lawsuit was about Billy cheating. This is the first time I've heard about this Apollo person. But I don't watch all Karl's videos and they tend to be quite long so it's certain that I missed the context.

Makes me laugh when Billy Mitchell claimed Jobst ruined his reputation, when he was about as well though of in gaming circles as Dark Syde Phil
 
Karl Jobst is the guy who first brought up the completionist's charity embezzling two years ago, I think this case was ongoing well before he did the video on that charity fraud.
 
I know people hate Billy but I've never understood people attacking him for his gaming claims. There's plenty of footage and real life evidence that he's a great game player. He was the first to do a perfect Pac-man live (every dot, every ghost) and has achieved some really high Donkey Kong scores live. Is it really hard to believe that he has some record high scores? Too many people these days have their opinion and emotions involved when going after people.

Karl Jobst is a fucking idiot. I watched the judge's decision and he said this has nothing to do with anything related to Billy's scores. Karl knew exactly what he was doing by being unforthcoming about the lawsuit. I looked at the gofundme page and watched some of the videos regarding the lawsuit. He just straight up deceived his audience. Sadly, I doubt any of the people that donated can get their money back.
 
Karl Jobst made a career in suing people and begging for no money. A lost here may make him rethink his career. IDK what's true so don't sue me.
 
Karl is just mad he doesn't have a beautiful, luxurious, velvety head of hair and a sweet beard to match. He probably doesn't even make hot sauce.
