someone can respond with a spoiler tag, but is there any point for me to get more than 4 atomic batteries?

or are they only used to
power the interchange. if there is another use you don't have to say for what

I've been farming them for some reason lol
Not seen any other use. Yet.

Edit: seems from above there is something else so I’ll keep a look out too.

I can't believe the bad reviews. This is the best game I've played in a long time. 9/10 so far.

In the early hours, I ended up in places I wasn't supposed to be and got lost. Since I could access 4-5 major regions right from the start, I didn't know which lead to follow. But when I stuck to the first map and progressed, it turned into a more stable experience. Everyone loves open world games, but I prefer linear ones. It would've been better if there were at least some barriers preventing access to certain areas.

I'm at the 8th hour now. I've never encountered any bugs, and it's not janky at all. Looks great, plays smoothly. I have no idea how some people managed to finish this game in 8 hours though. I still have so many places to go. It looks like it'll take at least 20-30 hours. I fully upgraded the revolver, totally worth it just for the looks! Now let's see how it shoots!

It's one of those games where if you know what you are doing you can just A-line to the end. I think the current record speedrun is less than 45 minutes

So is this game worth buying? Fallout 3 and New Vegas are in my top 10 of all time, nothing has quite scratched the itch I've been feeling for something similar. It's $37.69 on CDKEYS right now, and I'm close to taking the plunge.
Have you tried Fallout London?

Not to take away from Atomfall but if you want the next great Fallout game, London is what you should go for.

It’s really far beyond a mod it’s a game!

Initial review after 6 hours.

Despite outdated engine, though kudos to devs for in-house tech, and a slew of glitches (mostly AI) Atomfall is surprisingly competent foray outside of Rebellion's own comfort zone.

The game feels really and unexpectedly good. Eploring is very engaging, the shooting is solid, wirting is great, art is cozy and atmosphere is very thick. What wowed me the most is how Atomfall immerses you in the world: there are no quest markers, limitations or handholding. You can slaughter the entire village of quest-related NPCs and still finish the game. There's no karma, agenda or even markers: you're literally free to play as you please. Narrative really respects your intelligence too, you are collecting a puzzle piece by piece from dialogues, random chatter, notes, even wall graffiti. It's been a while since I saw a game that really showers you with proper yet easy to pick up unintrusive narrative cues. And to my surprise it was helmed by Jonathan L. Howard, and he is a very good author. Now I really wanna see more of this British Rural Apocalypse with bigger budget and less jank.

Gameplay is... OK, I guess? Stealth is janky but broken enough to roll with it, shooting feels solid and melee is kinda fun and punchy. Most importantly you're not annoyed by shit like hunger, weapon wear and tear and othe cheap tricks to make the game slower and drag some gameplay hours.

There are few glaring issues though. Main of them being: Inventory. It is too comically small to be comfortable (and a huge fun breaker at late game) on any difficulty. Plus we really need more inventory bindings at least on PC. Crafting is primitive too, almost useless and kinda bulky for what it is. I also thnk that UI in general could've been way better and less gigantic, but this is Revellion's first 'big' game so those mistakes are understandable.

Nonetheless, I beg you to support Rebellion with actual purchasse if you love Fallout or first STALKER. I really think they are ounto something with Atomfall here. And now I really wanna see fully realised FPS/RPG by this team. Especially since Bethesda went full Starfield in recent years.

I can’t believe I’m discovering new stuff, but I discovered a new enemy type that’s much stronger than pretty much everything I’ve run into

Took almost a full magazine of pristine condition 1911 headshots to down one

Finished it today - well one of the endings. I might have to save scum it as I dont think I can play through from scratch 10 times.

I finished the game. Since I couldn’t decide which ending to choose and wanted to explore every area, I fulfilled all the characters' requests. I normally wouldn’t do this in other games—this was the first time I did something like this. It was fun to do.
In the end, I was torn between Dr. Holder and the phone, and I chose the phone. I had actually planned to escape with Holder, but I couldn't figure out how to poison Oberon :messenger_grinning_sweat: , and at that point, I just wanted to finish the game. I think that ending might've been better, but I also liked my own ending. Finishing the game with the man on the phone, which felt like the other main character of the game, made it feel canon.

If they make a sequel, I will definitely play it. They did a great job. 9/10.

Just kick them then spam r2 with a melee weapon, over and over again. I know it's cheap but they're so bullet spongy and ammo is scarce so... I wish they could fight much better, or at least have a good melee weapon.

Beat the game, went with Mother Jago ending...

the game, however, disagrees apparently...I had the most janky bug ever. I beat the game with Mother Jago ending, got the Mother Jago achievement or whatever, then got the end cinematic as if I helped the guy on the phone. I just had to YouTube the correct cinematic after which isn't a huge deal.

outside of this retarded bug, the game was a blast. looking forward to the DLC. Mother Jago ending is as trippy as you'd think it would be. I didn't really trust anyone so I figured why not side with the lunatic. the lore is actually pretty interesting, especially how the game hints that
it isn't clear whether oberon is an alien or something artificial/designed

I beat the game with 15 unused skill points so don't feel the need to sit on them.

I'd rate it a solid 8.5/10

When you say cinematic didn’t the man on the phone talk about mother Jago?

When I did Garrow, it was still man on the phone but talking me through leaving with Garrow.

So am confused.

He was thanking me for listening to him and doing what he said...which I did not
he said I killed Oberon, whereas I did quite the opposite thing

he might always narrate it, but what he described was factually wrong. I chose a different ending/future for Oberon

Credits Roll, I finished it. I had several leads I didn't complete. Things got a bit overwhelming and confusing there at the end. Total free for all with enemies everywhere.
Over 20 hours of play.
I think I did a good mixture of side stuff and exploring. I had lots of skill tree unlocked but not all of it.
Decent stories throughout.
They need to clean up the journal mission tracking. Too much going on at once, with several tracking points on each little lead. It was confusing sometimes.
I don't think this will win any awards and will be forgotten by Summertime.

I can get back to Avowed or wait and see what The South of Midnight is all about.

I keep getting a weird bug in this where almost all of the sound is muted and the only thing I can hear is the footsteps of the NPCs.

Quitting and reloading fixes it, but then after a few minutes all the music, voices, and every other sound effect bar the NPC footsteps disappears.

Had the same bug. It went away whenever I got away from the part of the game that was causing it. Only happened much later in the game for me, towards final act

I started Atomfall and only a couple hours in, but I don't think I'm in the mood for this type of game at the current moment. It's a lot more hardcore survival horror-ish than I thought it was going to be. I'm in the mood for a freer experience that is more action, direction, and specific mission oriented. I'll mess around with it for a little bit longer and see if it hooks me, but I'm thinking this might be a game to shelve and revisit later.

Has anyone playing on PC had textures not loading properly (looks extremely low res or just missing textures) on vehicles or parts of the environment? I've only just noticed it, but was wondering if this was a game issue or perhaps Nvidia drivers being shit.

No pop in but I did have slowdown whenever a bunch of trees were on screen. My 4070 played just fine, but something about trees tanked the performance.

Just started this last night and not really feeling it. I might play more but doubt I’ll play through this one
That's basically where I was at. A lot about it seems and feels good, but nothing was really clicking for me. I may come back to it another time, but right now it's just not working with me for whatever reason.

Opposite for me lol, been nice to have a smaller scale less combat-focused game after burning through KCD2, Avowed and (currently) AC Shadows.

The quasi-horror is also 100% my vibe

I'm in a different boat. After spending so much time wandering the open world of AC: Shadows I want something less open ended. I'm getting antsy wandering around in Atomfall not doing very much. I'm itching for action or some type of level progression. Though I did get a little bit more into it last night than I was, but still not sure if I'm going to shelve it to return to later. I'll see. There are two games coming out on the 10th I'm really interested in so I may just play it until then and decide if I'm into it enough to not bounce to one of those games. A decent chunk of my time spent with the game had my attention wander and me checking my phone and stuff, and that's always a sign I'm craving something else right now.

It doesn't appear anything actually gets marked on your compass, does it? Like an NPC gave me a quest, and it was marked on my map, but it didn't appear on my compass unless I manually marked the spot. Also, I bartered for some key, but I don't know where the location it locks actually is. I don't even remember what it was called, I can't find the key in my inventory anywhere but I know I got it. Not sure where those items are stored so I can reference them.

Yeah, I played more of it last night and the game just isn't what I'm looking for right now. It's really boring me at the moment, I'm looking for something that stimulates the senses and attention span more. One thing I don't like is how there's always something nagging you when exploring. Bats, rats, crows, etc. My god, just let me explore in peace for a little bit.

this complaint is so odd to me. not that I think it's a dumb complaint, I just never experienced this in close to 20 hours. I've seen other people complain about it in this thread though.

I've ran into bats I think 1-2 times in a single cave really early on in the game.

Rats are sort of annoying, but still I really only ran into them underground like tunnels and stuff, maybe a total of 5 times in close to 20 hours.

as for crows, I didn't even know they attack you. never ran into them.

are you getting attacked by random animals while exploring the surface of the world?

I've found it pretty damn relaxing exploring this game, but yeah if I was being attacked by rats constantly it would get old.

random tip: there seems to be 2 types of swarms of rats. some you can kill, the others you can't kill and will infinitely keep coming. if you have rats that are coming non stop, the area you are at should have elevated platforms around for you to stand on so the rats can't hurt you.

It seems to always be near chests or points of interests for me. If I'm on a creek and see a body that I can loot... fish will attack me. If I'm in a basement and want to look for items... rats. I found a car with a chest or a dead body next to it, crows attacked me. Found houses I could enter, and rats attacked me. I'm usually safe in open areas outdoors where there isn't much else, but then you have to watch out for humans.

I think I could get into the game at another time, but it's far too slow for what I'm in the mood for right now. I played against last night to try to get into it more and I barely accomplished anything. I think the barter system is cool, but needing to backtrack to the tubes to store items that I could trade later was getting tiresome. I was exploring specific areas and then I'd run into something like turrets or enemies that could kill me in a few hits so I'd go I'm probably not supposed to be here right now, but then I go well maybe I am and I'm just supposed to avoid enemies, that's what this game kinda is.

But overall I just found myself bored, and the combat wasn't impressive enough to give me that jolt. I also think the quest log system could be improved. But maybe changing the settings of map markers will help with that.
